@KatDeMilo I watched you back c: Yeah, I agree with you.
Popular stuff huh... me neither. Things like fanart and such are somehow not easy for me to draw lol.

Lovely illustrations!!

The digital one is practically identical, if you hadn't pointed it out I might not have noticed at all to be honest.
I would say the traditional has more texture on the lines, and especially on block shading the digital looks a lot flatter in comparison.

How did you get the shine on the hair, in both mediums?
Like literally drawing a ton of lines until just the while shine remains?

Thank you!

Yeah, I'm not sure if I can mimic the pencil texture for the block shading. If I use "noise" or some other texture, you start to notice the pattern the larger the area. Will have to play around with pencil settings to see if I can do anything about that.

That's literally it! XD

Oh it's totally possible I have no doubt about it. I'm working on my own traditional sketch looking digital style, but it's a background project at the moment.

For adding textures, consider a texture brush with an amount of randomness/jitter?
That way there is no repeating texture over large areas.

These were my attempts, although I tried to create a paper texture as well.
Spoiler

That must take ages to get the hair render if it's line by line. I'm impressed :P

Sweet idea! Gotta find that setting. Would be a real save for those large areas.

Those are neat :o The second one has more of a traditional feel to me just because of the colours. That line roughness really helps to give that traditional effect for sure.

Sometimes it does ^^;;; Argh. I keep saying one of these days I'll record myself drawing to show my process - and I still haven't done it. *includes in Things-I-Really-Should-Do List*

Update --

Didn't particularly have any art resolutions this January. Drawing has been as scattered as my schedule these days. I have been trying to use Clip more these days, and I think it's growing on me.

Same character, Ellie, in a different style.

Also been working on redesigning some other characters.

You can do a lot of automation with brush settings although it can be very annoying to get the settings you want when you dig deep. GIMP has a good range of brush dynamic settings that you can change based on speed/direction/pressure and so on.

Lovely range of sketches!!
interesting to see the same character in 2 different styles. I've really go to try that out myself but I dont really have more than 1 style at the moment ahaha.

Thanks ^^ Do try! Just look at a reference of an artstyle you like and try to copy it. It's something I do whenever I'm in an art block or annoyed at my current style lol.

@Suuper Thanks! Yeah, I imagine those regimes take a lot of focus already. No rush. You'll get there!

@Walt Thank you!

Last moment Valentine's drawing of Shadow Child. I like how this one came out in terms of style. Using a reference really helped.

nice piece!
I like the thin/thick line contrast.
very suited for a cute manga style.
ahaha I thought the style felt like I had seen it before!
I'm watching that at the moment.

and yup it's just priorities for me that's limiting the things I can do. I'm always focusing on core stuff like expressions and figures and stuff, I dont get much time to focus on style and higher level things :P

Hey-ho~

@Suuper Thanks! Oh yeah, Bungo Stray Dogs Wan! was so cute and interesting to watch c: I really enjoyed the art style they used.

@Walt Thanks! ^^

I've been more focused on other things these past months. The few art pieces I finished were for other projects.

In March, I drew this little icon for a character song I was working on:

This is my character, Neske, trying to make a phone call to her uncle, who's her only family member left.
The song is on SoundCloud if you're interested in listening to it: https://soundcloud.com/noteriddler/neske

Then I also drew a new banner for my SoundCloud account, featuring a character I call Note.

More recently, I decided to make a very very short RPG game (7-9 minutes long) in RPG Maker MV, for which I drew my own sprites and art for the two characters, River and Observer (the eyeball robot thing). I mostly just copied over some of the sprites in RPG Maker MV. They're not perfect, but they served their purpose just fine.

Spoiler

Now that I look at these... what's up with me and girls with short hair? They could be triplets for all you know  :noidea:

Ah welcome back Echo! Been missing you and your work :)

Pretty sweet song, and I think the character art captures the emotions of it quite well. Really liked the outro section of strings and piano.

I think I've had RPG Maker MV sitting in my Steam Library for years, but I have never done anything with it... I think I'm happy enough playing games, don't have to make my own!

The sprite and portrait art looks great though! I honestly can't see much wrong with it at all... you sure are a harsh critic! I really enjoy distinct and clean sprite and pixel art. If you ever release a full game, I'll give it a go!
