SFX Help
« on: December 21, 2012, 05:25:51 AM »
Hey guys, I'm new here and I was hoping that I could get some advice about SFX in manga. How do you guys personally determine various sound effects? Is there a quality onamanapia dictionary kicking around the net or do you simply listen to the sound endlessly until you can pen it? Thanks in advance!

i try and mimic the sound and then write what letters i used.
or i have already seen how someone else did it before and liked that (memory, like everyone knows pop and bang)
there are some dictionaries around but they were mostly japanese-english onomatopoeia (got it right without spellchecker)
the size and quantity of the SFX change depending on the individual sound (like scribble or chatter will be loads of little ones, but a bang or slam of a door will be one big one), and the situation it is used in obviously.
hope that helped a bit!
