24 pages in 24 hours
« on: December 08, 2012, 09:05:00 PM »
For more information: http://www.24hourcomicsday.com/

A while ago I participated in a challenge at school (BEAU in Salt Lake City Utah) to produce 24 pages of comic in 24 hours. Me and my friend Juan joined in and participated. He did his digitally, and I did mine traditionally. It started at 6pm and ended at 6pm the next day. It was really strange seeing the sun set and rise at the desk of my school.

So here's my story. I sat down at 6pm and we told the rules. No pre-existing stores, no bringing in already completed works, and that you could call it quits at anytime, and even go home and come back. There was about 16 participants at my school, but 3 other schools in Utah were participating at the time too. Then we started.

At around 5am, the next day suddenly we heard a snore. People unplugged their ear buds one by one as each snore echoed through the room. It took us to realize who fell asleep, but at the very end of the table was the comic teacher's son. After a while his dad woke him up and said to sleep in another room. (A lot of us brought sleeping bags and everything!) So there was one down.

Later at 12pm my friend Juan wanted to take a nap. I told him he could sleep on the sofas outside the room in the lounge or the rounded chairs in the game room. For some reason... he either didn't hear it, or couldn't comprehend it, and he went to sleep under the table we were working on. After an hour I woke him up like I promised, and then at 3pm it was my turn for a nap. I slept in a sleeping bag in the lounge, because by this point more than half of the students went to sleep at the more comfortable parts of the school.

At 4pm I called it quits. And I slept before I drove home. I got home just before 6pm. Yes, I called it quits.

Below is the result of my....... attempt at making a comic in such short time...... To be honest, I'm utterly embarrassed by it.

Btw... at 4am I finished the sketching of all the pages. So I was like... I have so much time, I should ink it! Bad idea when you have no sleep.. I liked my sketches much better..... TT.TT

I have a lot to learn and sometimes I feel like I'm slacking. I feel so empty when I don't draw, and full of fire if I do. I hope both feelings never go away.

OH MY GOD~ Fix the pages please. After a certain point it got to hard to read and I can't finish ready, which I really want to do, if I can't see the words. TT-TT stuck at the most odd kind of cliff hanger ever =_=

nooo cliffhanger due to hard to read pages.........................................nooooooooooooooooooo
very good stroy and characters, cleanly drawn for the pages that were finished.
intersting idea too, perhaps i will try that one day and see what happens. i can easily stay awake more than 24 hours (its just the next 24 hours that really pushes it  :P) so its really a matter of patience, i guess. or focus.

good job though, would love to see it all finished up!

That was great!
I could read it, but it was difficult because I can't see some pages properly :/
Anyway, it was fun to read (specially because I love dragons, monsters etc <3)

This is kool! I must admit, when i read the title i thought it would be horrible (24 pages in 24 hours) You did pretty good with all the proportions considering it was a speed demonstration. Keep it up!

This is insane! you made this, only in 24 hours?
Haha, i wouldn't be able to pull this off even in 24 days  :push:!
If you can fix the really strange sketchy part then it would be really great since i wanted to know what happened to that poor Mc :/.
Again, good job!  :clapping:

Tight work, I enjoyed the concept that was brewing riiiight up to the part where I couldn't read any of the words. You definitely have talent, keep it up, I hope to see you posting more often.

you drew things out pretty nicely. i will say though that the dialogue needs work. a little too forced in certain areas. such as.

"She's lying. I've known her for so long. that's how i know"

her crying looks alittle too comedic too. but of course its all moving too fast.
