my 3D interest has been rekindled!
Well, it was never gone to begin with, I just needed to work on my drawing more. but after working with so many WIPs I'm starting to want some generic backgrounds that I can use for bringing my WIPs to life.

here's a warm up that took maybe 10 minutes. an unfinished bookcase. Was meant to be a library but I was too tired :P
gonna have to play around with some free rendering software to get it looking nice and real.
As always, speed is my focus.

also got to sort out my 3d work folder as it's a complete mess at the moment.

starting to work on clothing now. way overdue, along with everything else of course :P
need to put more copies/studies on this thread, not in my manga thread, because, well, it's not manga :P

took 2 hours for all this. shading is way hard XD
mixed results but I'm totally starting at nearly zero for this kind of shading.
also I'm all over the place for values :P

edit: some face studies

some hand studies.
I'm using photos I took myself, of myself, for the most part because I can get the range and angles that I want to use more often in my drawings. A lot of hand references just don't quite fit what I need.
Need to take more prop interaction poses though.

Whoa dude how the heck!? Hahaha your rush is insanse. I can't believe you knocked 1,000 out of the park that fast. Your productivity increased quite a bit at the finish line. I always love that rush. It's a good moment and perfect balance to the doldrums of being in the middle.

I feel you 100% on the hand reference thing. It's frustrating as heck. Photographing your own hands is a legit and recommended method because some poses just never quite fit the way you want. I like the palm-out cuped ones the most and the 'Roman handshake' one.

Also, cloth material studies? Me gusta quite a bit.

Also we could always do with more 3d stuff from you, suuper. You're great at Sketchup. I can't imagine the pain of making so many books in a shelf though hahaha

haha yeah it's strange how I pushed through at the last minute. I really didn't want to stay on faces for any longer really, because while doing WIPs I'm thinking "how the heck do I do hands?" more and more.

most hand references are often taken by the person posing the hand, so there is often a lot of foreshortening and perspective issues as the camera is really close. I use a camera with remote shutter/timer, so I can zoom in from further away and get a more natural perspective on the hands, plus angles that I wouldn't be able to take with my other hand, including 2 hand shots.

yeah I'm thinking I'll do some "gestures" using Sketchup and copy some manga backgrounds. While my skill is technically there, I dont have much of a workflow, or creativity when it comes to backgrounds, so as with everything else, practice, practice, practice XD
Having the goal of Youtube tutorials/timelapses is nice as well.

the books were relatively easy though, I made one book first then copied it along a few, changed the width and copied a few etc. then randomly picked them and changed the height/depth, and repeated a few times.
Maybe that'll be my next tutorial as it's nice and easy. thanks for the idea :P

it is my strong belief that there is an insanely fast way to do almost anything (to a decent quality as well), and often until I find that super fast way, I don't spend much time doing it because I think that I'm wasting my time haha

just an old file in Sketchup, playing around with rendering a similar manga style to the previous one I made. I think it's quite reliable for a "generic background" style while I figure out how I'm going to work with them properly.

Spoiler

and some copies from manga pages that I saved for background reference. I never thought I'd be 3d modelling them instead of drawing them when I saved them haha
took 15 minutes for each copy, which is insanely long compared to my normal gestures lol

some hand copies, mine again. probably need to do some finger studies first because I'm simplifying the hand too much when I draw.

so it's not quite art but I've been playing around with the GIMP plugins and writing my own scripts. After a few hours of just looking blankly at the code (it's an unusual style of code), it finally clicked and I made a mini plugin to make a set of guides to make a grid.

it's not so special and I wont ever use it, but for those who want to add functionality to their workflow it's the way to go. Other than writing new functions, you can write macros which combine several tasks into one button. In my case, amongst others, I want to do:

-enlarge selection by 1px
-fill with current colour
-select nothing
-select brush tool

which I do all the time for filling in eyelids without having to fill the outline in like it's a crayon colouring book.
so it's the next level for productivity.

for those who care, the code is crazy weird.

normally code generally looks this  in major languages:
x=(6+8)/10
pretty readable right?

whereas GIMP script-fu code looks something like this
(set! x (/ (+ 6 8 ) 10))

just a different syntax, an accent if you will, but annoying all the same.

278/1000
still cracking away slowly.
drawing 70 hands on a page makes 1000 feel like a short goal lol

also circles.
took 9 minutes for 400 circles. went back and forth and on each grey square I increased the zoom to practice different sizes. Partly the reason a drawing doesn't go right is because the guidelines are not right, and not being able to draw a perfect circle (or near enough) is certainly one of those problems.
also different sizes of circle require slightly different methods of drawing them.
