reccomendations?
« on: June 03, 2011, 02:58:30 AM »
I just started getting back into manga. I'm really not interested in any manga with a highschool storyline, or a storyline with younger main characters. I'd prefer characters 18+
I can't seem to find too much manga like that, and i'm just getting back into the scene.. It's been a few years. I have quite the impressive piles of manga, and I was surprised to find so much new stuff on the shelves in bookstores, but nothing that appealed to me. It seemed like the same old same old kind of thing.
Nothing too fantasy based! unless it is amazing and you can't help but reccomend it.

Lucky Star  :push: It just had to be said xD 18+ highschool, perfect
But ofc... wait... Highschool of the Dead  :fighting: XDDD Hilarious, this is.
Jokes aside:

I'd like to know a bit more about what you're into. Moé, psychological, romance, comedy, maybe some tradegy. Let's get some genres on the table. Maybe something serious? Guns, drugs, whatever (not that I'm too into that field though)
Work in progress: Everything.
Alternative title: Nothing.

It isn't really manga but have you ever heard of "Scott Pilgrim"? Specially awesome if you happen to be a gamer as well, tremendously hilarious.

I've heard a lot of good things about Scott Pilgrim too.

Well, time to look into the folders then. *Realise how much Highschool/below 18 I have*
Okay, here's a couple of manga I think you should check out.
Good Artwork and Good Story:
Well,, it must have to be the series Welcome to the NHK. It's indeed  one of the psychological ones. It's about being a hikkikomori, so if you're interested in that field it's a must read.

For the last two the story is absolutely awesome, but the artwork is a matter of taste:
Oyasumi Punpun fx.  is one of my absolute favorites (Check out more from Solanin). Imagine your life in manga form. Your real life. The feelings etc is really real (xD) but then again, it's not very popular.
Another one is Beck aka Mongolian Chop Squad (A name very misgiven). It's about some guys forming a band. Up and down it goes. Read it for awesomeness. One of the best mangas ever made. This one is my top reconmedation.

Can't help you out that much though...

Monster maybe? Heard it should be great.

Here are some of my recommandations.

Ascension: the big hit of this year, both in Japan and France. I am about to buy the whole serie, just from looking randomly at some of its pages, that means a lot since I rarely buy manga series.

Fullmetal alchemist: one of the best manga ever.

Letter Bee: I could spend hours re reading the same book, the same page.

Pandora Hearts: I love the diversity of the characters.

I've realised I've made a mistake. I call the creator/author of Solanin for Solanin. Else I can't remember his name. His real name is ofc Inio Asano.

Ah, you like Solanin? It's not often you come across people who's read his (Inio Asano) works. Though the author/artist of Welcome to the NHK isn't as... realistic in his drawing style, the way he deals with the hikkikomori-theme is comparable to Asano's way of dealing with life's problems... at least if you remove the humor from Welcome to the NHK.

But if you liked Solanin, you'll have to check out Oyasumi Punpun.
