I'm just gonna drop in here that I'm trying to learn how to draw the female form and I'm using Nozomu Takami's Dance in the Vampire Bund for my references. I also really like his stylized male form, but overall what gets me is his ability to draw soft faces.

Yes, I'm quite aware of his other works, but that's another story... :-\
Haha signature go brr.

Hmm, its hard to say - I haven't been able to read a lot of manga's in the most recent of years..
I think If I was to choose at this moment, It have to be Yoshihiro Togashi or Rumiko Takahashi. The mangaka for Yu Yu Hakusho & Hunter x Hunter then the mangaka for Inuyasha & Ranma 1/2.

I would have to say Takeshi Obata. His artwork is so nice, if you have seen his new series platinum end, the first color spread is AMAZING

Drops in and says that Clamp has to be my fav. Love how every manga they create is slightly different from their others in terms of art. Forever a Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle fan

I think it's an outrage that we are five pages into this thread and no one has brought up Miura Kentaro yet.

Some necromancy here, but I don't mind. And indeed, I'm shocked at no mention of Miura sensei as well.

I have too many to mention, but Kubo Tite has always been an inspiration in making cool looking characters and fight scenes. He just has a certain flow that can't be underestimated.

Hiroya Oku of Gantz because of the technical excellence of Gantz, I just can't fathom that many 3d models and that attention to detail. There are other impressive seinen artists who do this, but it's Gantz that really blows my mind.

Of course, in terms of sheer drawing ability Kentaro is a beast as well.

A random favourite of mine would be Sayman Dowman of Vovnich Hotel. Such a cute simplistic style mixed with some grim stories.

And how I wish I could draw like FLCL's Hajime Ueda

Geh, with every name I mention a new name comes to mind...

There aren't really any artists I would identity as favorites, it's more on a series to series basis for me in art ratings.

But to name a few, Toriyama, Takeshi Obata, Ryuta Amazume, Atto, Akira Hiramoto, CUTEG...etc.

First mangaka would have to be Yusuke Murata his artwork is soo good even the background is detailed then Mitsutoshi Shimabokuro his art work in toriko was great too especially the battle scenes and maybe Hiroki Araki of the Jojo franchise though he has some weird poses he's good with the shading and background and muscular characters.
Tite Kubo for solid characters though his backgrounds are plain most of the time he makes the characters have some heavy features like lips nose and so on and finally for the best the one and only Masashi Kishimoto because he's just that good XD
A joureny of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
