What is the post length limit you can make in a topic?

Is there a maximum? Is the limit decided by word count or by letter count? An average novel chapter length probably goes around 5000 words, do we approach that limit? Or around half (2500 words)? Does spoilering change how long you can post?

Pulled straight from the error message:

Quote
The message exceeds the maximum allowed length (50000 characters).

Hope that answers your question!

Spoiler tabs do not change the character limit (in fact, they use up characters).

that's about 10k words then if you use the 5 characters per word and spacebar average. So for a full novel you'd need quite a few posts if you were posting the whole thing. But typically a chapter at a time makes sense.

Adding to that, if you want to present your story as the first post in the topic, I highly recommend using the URL linking feature. That'll make it flexible for you to add chapters as you post while keeping the character count low. You could even cut the URLs down even further using bit.ly to save on character count.

Without meaning to plug my own work, this is an example to illustrate what Op is suggesting. I think you can use the “Quote” button to have a look at how the links are formatted in the post if you want.

All good points. But just to add the last piece of the puzzle: no one will harp on you for double or triple posting if you're posting a big chapter or multiple chapters at once.
