The chit chat thread is dead! Long live the chit chat thread!

Y'all who have been here a while know the drill, but for those of you who don't: we restart the chit chat topic each year to keep it to a manageable size. The old topics are locked but readable.

So to get the ball rolling, how was everyone's new year? At our place we watched a handful of movies and drank french 75's. It's practically tradition now in this time of COVID.

We had a very small celebration with our 3 closest family friends (everyone has been testing every day because my brother and his partner need to be able to fly back to Australia tomorrow...).

We had dinner, lots of drinks, and played a couple of silly boardgames (The Sock Game and The Logo Game) before watching Jools Holland as per usual.

We get a good view of a local fireworks show from our upstairs windows, but we had one extra-long sparkler left over from November so my brother lit it and pranced around the garden... as usual...

All in all a pretty nice one, but I was last to go to bed at 4am 'cause I took it upon myself to completely tidy up...

Happy New Year MR!!

Our yearly habit on New Year's Eve is to play Scrabble, followed by midnight snacks X'D As it was just us, it was a nice and quiet celebration. Afterwards, I and a couple of friends decided to play Pico Park online until 3am haha.

A glorious New Year's indeed! Funny to think it's been over a year since I became active again on MR with my new project. Still writing those stories and of course, investing in extra artwork to share with you fancy lot.  It's not as cheap as one might think to maintain quality art for a whole year, but it's something I adore with a passion. Here's to continuing my contributions into this year as well

I was woken up by the fireworks since I don't do late nights :P
I consequently overslept and lost my drive instantly again lol

I turn 29 this year so a heavy nope. feeling the drag already...
also gotta get gud quick now, a while back I casually put 30 as a deadline for starting a major project but I can't see that happening XD
but good to keep motivated.

Glad to hear everyone had a good time! Any resolutions y'all trying to keep this year? Just the same ones from last year? lol.

Personally I'm committed to getting back to my Sunday afternoon writing routine. Moving in with the fiance through everything into chaos, but I know I can start again as long as I make the time for myself.

@suuper: you can do it man! You are definitely ready to start a major project. Just don't go talking yourself out of it. Remember that it doesn't have to be perfect out of the gate. After all, you practice more than just about anyone. Creating is always a practice, just like yoga or martial arts. It's about doing the best you can now. So get the ball rolling! And not just because we all want to read what you come up with!

Not particularly a resolution, but I'm trying to be less distracted when working on projects and stuff, and to keep up good streaks of focus for longer than a week.

I don't think I'm shying away from a big project per se, but more just assessing loss/gain/pros/cons for my different routes, and based on my experience and personality I'd like to do some more EXP grinding first XD
Rather than a big project, I'm leaning towards more high quality projects, regardless of the size. So learning to polish up stuff before I work on a massive thing like a manga. We'll see what this year brings.

Anybody here fit into the center of the Venn diagrams of Anime and American Football? Thoughts on the Super bowl? We're the Begnals robbed? Did the refs play fair? Is the entire NFL season rigged from the start? Debate.

It says dvd not blu ray?

Almost certainly it won't play Blu-ray if it doesn't have that labeled. Pretty sure the age of the portable DVD player ended when the cheapest Blu-ray player you could buy was a $600 PS3.

I think streaming services also put a bit of an end to DVDs/Blu-rays in general. I'm not so keen on paying for a service I might or might not use so I just use the free ones I can get and buy DVDs for my favourite films.

Funny I always wanted a portable DVD player but never could be bothered to get one. I suppose that's because I started watching anime on my phone when travelling.

just wondering does anyone know how road trips work?

I guess it depends on the road trip. If you have a destination or if you don't. That and method of transport. Either way, drive something with lots of leg room and storage. Make sure you're not driving for too long at a stretch. Pack plenty of snacks. Always have a place to stay for the night planned out so you're not roughing it on the roadside.

First and foremost: keep a spare gas can in the back and make damn sure you  are never in danger of running out of gas.

Is it just me, or has MR been marked as a phishing site? I hope nothing serious is going on...

I dug around and it looks like it's being caused by the ad bar at the bottom of the page (which now looks like a missing image icon), which is linking to a dodgy site. So MR itself is fine as far as I can tell.
I gave Hasith a PM so hopefully he'll give it a look sometime :P
