Found a bunch of tutorials
« on: April 19, 2019, 07:36:58 AM »
I know the last thing we need is yet another collection of tutorials but these seemed pretty great and simple.
http://www.mclelun.com/p/tutorial.html

tutorials are, as he says "Not a detail step by step tutorial, but focus on the workflow"
easy to follow with any photoshop/GIMP software it seems.

mostly how to do different background stuff/visual effects.

the artist is also "a hybrid designer/programmer who also happens to be color blind" which is exactly what I am so it's extra strange lol.

plus he does timelapse videos and has DeviantArt and all that.
and animations too https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aGGUeyZ1xAA

also, wasn't there a huge thread for posting this sort of thing?

I came across one of his tutorial like around four months ago, This one https://www.mclelun.com/2015/10/anime-background-tutorial.html
But I didn't notice there are more of them on the same site.
I want to draw Grass/trees type of BGs So this will be very helpful

that was actually the tutorial that led me to the site in the first place!
it's great as he shows different methods ie painting over a photo, or using 3d models of buildings etc.

Look like 3d models method works really well and fun to try. I fear that I have to learn extra things to be able to do it tho. So many things to learn so little time.
So yea, models and photo. It is one more way of doing backgrounds https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EI2eTs-pMSg

It's not a tutorial but I like watching the process of making a page. I think he used to post his pages here.

Found those in my recommended

An artist drawing a two-panel page traditionally in three hours (there may be cuts)

And this
Titled What It Takes to Become a Manga Artist.

He is not talking about how to make. He goes about what made him want to make it. About what he went through. Things some of us went and still going through. Which make it an interesting video. Hope it gives the encouraging effect

they were both incredibly useful to watch.
the first one answered a few questions I forgot I even had because I gave up on even finding the answer, mostly on use of tools and order of working. In every clip I skipped through the artist was dead quiet, I talk to myself so it felt quite strange to have just the sounds of pencil on paper.

second was very insightful. no surprises but it's good to see it expressed by someone.

Youtube has been recommending "How not to suck at drawing" and similar videos like this for ages and I finally watched one, was informative and fortunately I'm on the right track as far as that ones advice goes.

4 Time-Saving Tips (from a guy who spent 13 YEARS drawing a comic)
