Character Vs. Food
« on: December 04, 2018, 02:46:59 PM »
Have a character try out a food they have never tried before and react to it.

1. Think of a dish/food

2. Draw your character eating it

3. Be creative! You want to draw someone eating a hamburger? Then ask yourself why your character has never tried a hamburger before in their life: Are they a caveman from the past? A mech pilot in an age where burgers are banned? Have a good excuse for any kind of food you choose! (It can also be a super negative emotion so don't forget that.)

4. The reaction to the food is as important as the eating.

I have problems with expressions and making my characters life-like enough to do normal human things like eating food or taking a walk in the park, so I thought I'd make a workshop along those lines.

Idea: draw a hand holding out an onion to Mahlua.
Have Mahlua react like a vampire allegedly reacts to garlic.

I love garlic, but onions tear up my stomach and legit taste like poison to me. I hate going places only to find that onions are in almost every dish. Even if you order it without the onions, usually the foods have still touched them.
Haha signature go brr.

This sounds neat! I did something like this a while ago where I drew one of my OC's eating ramen, though she's eaten it before. I love doing this kind of thing so I'll participate and see if I can't sketch something to submit.

Will be looking forward to it!

@Kesashi great!

@Mahlua reminds me of Coryn a bit. The only reason I don't like garlic is because it destroys my breath. Always loved it otherwise. Also draw that idea lel

Anyhoo here is mine. I should've focued on the food itself moar but yeh... It's soup.

Here's my first pass at it! A super quick sketch I wanted to squeeze in before the monster hunting begins tonight. I think I might do a second pass at this!

Definitely going to draw a better katsudon haha

Are slushies food? I'd argue so.

Brain Freeze

Probably could have done better with that hand, but I still think the expression turned out okay.

@Dev: stop trying to kill me with cute things.

@Toxic: Haha, so expressive. I know the exact feeling...You captured it well, kind of in the same way that old rage comics do.

@mahlua
lol apologies, I'll make some lewds soon instead!

Here's my next pass at the challenge! A colored sketch, 2nd pass at the previous image.
The context is Satsuki and Ryuko hanging out at Mako's place. Finally having some time to themselves, Satsuki makes Ryuko the katsudon she's been practicing for a while now and to her delight, Ryuko loves it! I enjoyed this challenge and might do more!

Awesome stuff devola! You nailed the colours - I really want to eat that food. Plus Ryuko is kawaii. Good stuff! Looking forward to whatever you can come up with next! But now I must go shopping for katsudon.  Glad ye like the workshop

@Toxic I can feel the pain coming from his face haha.

I did another one. Demon eating burgers.

@Lego: Pardon? Have I made special reference to garlic and/or onions in the past?

Well, they tend to be overpowering to my pallet raw. It's not that it's a bad flavor, just that it tends to keep me from tasting other things.

Cooked onions are translucent gold though. Make no mistake there.
