Weridly Specific Question (not that werid)

In writing are you allowed to reference brands, more specifically games? I only ask because in a lot of animes I've seen they blank out titles of games.

I have read many a book that reference name brands before, so I don't think you've got any worries there. Same should go for video game titles.

The problem you run into with anime, is that you're crossing over into a visual representation. It's one thing to put in as a word in a book, it's another to splash it across the screen.

Still, I wouldn't worry unless you're really getting ready to publish something. Call of Duty isn't going to worry about someone posting stories on the internet.

Will review stories upon request. My latest arc: http://goo.gl/KYgsfF

I actually find it funnier/better if you make a ripoff brand like "Guugle". A lot of animes do that and its great. I actually get disappointed when the legitimate brand like MacDonalds makes it onto the screen instead of like WcDonalds. But that doesn't actually answer your question tho, but thought to mention that anyway.
