new year resolution: I decided to start sport again.
« on: January 07, 2018, 01:07:09 PM »
I decided to start sports again this year to lose some weight and muscle my back. I know it won't be easy but I think I may not be the only one in that situation!

Let's face it, it's easier to do it when you have a support group or friends to help you!
Together, we can make it!

Post here your sports goals for this year, come cry or rejoice with us!

Here is my program so far:
monday: "body balance": agility, stretch and soft gym
thuesday: dance (not tutu dance, it's dynamic nowadays music dance)
wednesday: stretching
thursday: abdos, hips and bottom muscles

It makes 4 hours a week. I will add probably bike during week-ends and walks.

What about you? Do you have new years sports resolutions?

Where I go to uni, you don't really need sports resolutions. The town is too crowded to park so there's no point bringing your car, and it's up in the mountains so you're gonna be literally walking uphill both ways to anywhere.

I'm definitely bringing my workout routine back to the foreground. The holidays were not easy, and I'm still stuck with a bunch of Christmas candy. But I've realigned with a heavy workout Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday, with lighter stuff on the other days.

And I really need to excise snacks from the menu and eat smaller meals. I don't eat all that much to begin with, so it's not too bad, but I grow complacent too quickly and end up bingeing on this or that and ruining my diet. It's too easy to forget how quickly progress can be lost.

Best of luck to you Cory! With determination I'm sure you'll reach your goals! =)

It took me a while but I started lifting weights last summer. It hasn't made me skinnier but I've noticed improvements in health overall.

My routine is usually 3 times a week, albeit without a schedule. In about 30 to 45 minutes I try to get one of these routines in:
Routine 1:
4 x 25 curls
4 x 25 shrugs
4 x 5 lateral flies
4 x 25 tricep extensions
4 x 15 shoulder presses

Routine 2:
4 x 30 squats
4 x 5 deadlifts
4 x 10 lunges

Now to get on that diet...
I'm back~~~

Imagine an MR weight watchers support group, that would be fab

Personally since October (and into New Years resolution) I’ve been building up to thirty mins biking on the hardest gear and trying to start dumbbells 4 times a week. I think 5kg weights might be a bit too Light for development though  :hmm:

Thanks for the welcome you guys! xD

GreenTrap, 5 kg is plenty to start with depending on the type of workout and goal. A lot of people think of building up muscle in general but they don't realize that you have to build up the supporting muscles too. This is why I would suggest free weights (like the dumbbells yo mentioned) over machines unless necessary.
I'm back~~~

I wish somebody told me about supporting muscles back in my early days. I did a lot of core stuff without any back stuff--now my back is whack. I mean I could probably do stretches daily and build it up to be better but I'm horrible at keeping any semblance of a schedule. My life is too much like a random magical girl anime for that. I wish that statement were only a joke.

You can still fix your build by doing the appropriate exercises. TBH, the back is probably the second most ignored muscle group other than the legs. xD

I meant more along the lines of support muscles in your muscle groups though. For example, take Person A and Person B both bench press 80 kg. Persona A does free weights and Person B uses a machine. If you switch their methods with each other, who would struggle more?

The answer is Person B.

Although they're lifting the same amount of weight, Person B isn't building up the support/stabilizer muscles which makes it more awkward for them to bench the same amount of weight in free weights.

Ever since I left my old ups job I've really let myself go. I mean I was already sort of a big guy and still am, but I did slimmed down a bit when I was still unloading trucks. And now those two years of picking up boxes have now gone to waste. So...

*Cues one punch man theme*

one hundred push-ups...

one hundred sit-ups

one hundred squats...

And a 10KM run everyday...

*Proceeds to die from exhaustion*
Messatsu...

Right until your body breaks from over work.

I am also trying to build up to 100 push-ups again though. That's part of my routine as well. I got there right before graduating, but I fell of the wagon after that.

Oddly my old workout was something like 100 push ups and 200 crunches and some leg stuff. My horizons have expanded since, but I don't really have a set enough schedule for that kinda thing, as I said.

I might exercise when my schedule goes down in a couple months but in the meantime I just want to use my extra time for drawing.
