Just a suggestions to the mods for them to consider
« on: April 05, 2017, 09:56:23 AM »
You know, limiting people's posts because they don't have enough comments on other posts is pretty stupid.
You don't incentivize engagement with other posts, you just turn people off from using the forum. I know that other people who are husstling with their drawings and writings (the target audience here) don't have time to spend a couple hours on the forum before they can actually use it for what they want. Unless you're someone who wants to do this as a hobby and got a lot of time to it...
Please reconsider this rule, it's pretty dumb. I know that many people just hear this rule and go "ah, I'll try somewhere else".
Please reconsider it, this forum is a great place to find other people, but you're kinda bottlenecking the potential here.

You're absolutely right :)

Always someone puts a restriction, inmediately the people will think about another place where they can post what they want. I know the moderators wants some regulations, but this is really bad for the new people who wants to enter to the comunity...

First of all you posted this in wrong place. There is a board specifically for suggestions and feedback. Which you have no idea or simply ignored.

Secondly this is something I was worried about. Goal of this forum is not " find other people " for your projects. Mangaraiders is a place for members to post their stories and artwork. Also a pace where everyone can help each other to improve their skills.

Becoming a Bulletin board is not the goal. Also we are not interested in that potential. So we totall welcome the idea of finding other places for posting advertising topics and threads just to find an artist or writer. Basically Artist / writer requests boards are for " regular members " announce their projects and get help from other members.

But we have started receiving too much attention of these boards from Google so people sign up just to create topics to find artists and then level. Some ask for account deletion after finding an artist or members. More than 90% people who have posted these boards don't have even 20 posts.

The real dumb thing we have done is letting people to post there like that. Soon there will be more restrictions added to these sections. Like you will need to have at least 25 posts and one week time on forum before posting in these boards. Also all topic openers must have a Gallery topic and Story topic showing their skills.

Ok, then I really don't see the point in any of this. The area I was using was for finding maga artists, wasn't it? It's meant for people finding artists, isn't it? You give us the impression that we're allowed to look for artists and writers to work with. If that's not the point of the forum, just delete the thread. I don't know forum terminology, I pretty much hate forums in general. But I did find work here, and I'm working on this amazing project with a friend I met here. So why fight the very people who are using your forums? Seriously, why? Can't you just separate one demographic from the other? Does it ALL have to be just posting your work? Can't it have a small area for us to find other people? I really don't see the harm in that...

I'll just look elsewhere, just like I said people would. You see, you could have an active member that gets you lots of traction, but you're just kicking people out for no reason at all. You're just limiting your forum to one content when it could be so much better.

Oh man. There's so many things wrong here, but if I point them out, everyone will think I'm a rude assh*le.

@MatsumotoTrix

I like I said these request boards are not the main goaln/season/part of the forum. Those 2 were created for regular members to announce their project find teammates etc. Our mistake was let everyone to use it as an advertising board.

So we have to spend moderating stuff there than any other areas in forum. Most people who post there don't even bother to read forum rules. Some just come find people and then delete their accounts. Some just to advertise. If you are just here for that then you are in wrong place.

Even your case you have only posted that board. Nothing outside apart from one post. We don't kick people out. We are trying to encourage people to be more active members in whole forum than just ghosts who come here to find people and then walk away. Just like you said if those people who just come here to find people and walk away will find another place to post their advertisements then we are totally fine with it.

I believe there's a misunderstanding about what MangaRaiders is supposed to be.

It's a forum for a tight-knit community, bringing together people with similar interests and making friendly connections. If anything, writing stories and drawing art comes second after that. It is by no means a "Professional Work" forum by which you simply come and go as soon as you found what you're looking for. We've had issues where people assume this forum is supposed to work as a "Middleman" for those seeking artists and writers and vice-versa, where you grab whomever's available and be on your merry way. Thus, the forum gets saturated by one-posters who practically dumps whatever they have there, then leave without contributing anything substantial to the forum itself.

MangaRaiders is small, but its members stick around for months and years on end. That's because it encourages active participation, not idle advertisement. MangaRaiders is certainly not for anyone who has no plans on sticking around anytime soon, but for those who do, you're sure to be awarded with valuable lifetime connections.

@ Operative13 nailed it.

When I created those 2 boards, the idea was simple.

Lets say Operative decides to start a collaboration project creating a new Manga or Virtual Novel or something and want to to find more people. He announce about the project in correct board and provide us detailed explanation what he is going to do and what exactly he needs. Anyone who want to find out if he mean business by checking his Gallery / Stories topics to find out his skills. Even if a new member interested in project still he/she can check Operative and find out all they want to know.

But now we have total strangers here asking for artists to creative a story idea which is still just an idea which even hasn't written. Every month I get couple of PMs about doomed projects and complains about abuse etc. 100% of these complains are from new members who haven't been active at all in forum and decide to tag with other new people in an outside product. They get really pissed when I say I can't do anything about what happens outside the forum.

And that's not all. We all see most of them don't bother to read rules even when pointed out. Some people believe they should have the freedom to post anything and then walk away as they want. You guys should see some PMs I get accusing me about violating their freedom speech because a mod or I had removed their advertising thread in these sections.

Then there are forum goals. We are looking for people who are willing to post their artwork and want to improve their skills as well as willing to help others. This is why we pay special attention to introduction section. Making new members feel home. Everyone know everyone here. We all know who is hot tempered , who is cool headed , who makes drama and who drives everyone crazy time to time. But everything is fine as long as everyone respect each other. Everyone having fun and a good time.  Those request boards are just a tiny part of the forum. So far we have let everyone to post there and its not working.
