I wouldn't know too much about it, but these days I personally use a free, open-source program called Krita. I've always hated GIMP. Nothing about its layout made sense to me, and while Krita has some of its own...quirks, it's still a lot closer to the time I had Photoshop.
Haha signature go brr.

After messing around with some of the standard brushes on Krita last night, I can confirm that a lot of them can be used for screentoning simply as they are, if that's of interest to you. There's a few hatching/crosshatching ones and even some that are specific to mimicking screentones.

That's what most people say about GIMP. It's clearly not user-friendly. I've heard of Krita but never tried it. I'll give it a go some time.

If you're interested in Manga/Screentoning purely, then check out Jump Paint. It's quite nice (Shonen Jump's software made by MediBang.)

Looks like something straight out of Winnie the Pooh or Calvin and Hobbs. I literally have nothing to add or critique here. You have it down to composition in that one.

It actually reminded me of old school manga - except for the colour.

I'm surprised I really like this picture. It should be too bright but instead it just fills me with warm and fuzzy feelings inside. Love it.

Pretty scenery piece 0w0 I really like how you did the water and the shading on the tree.

Style is definitely something I struggle with too. Mine seems to shift every so often. But trying everything out that you feel like doing, whether it be dark, light, colour, or b&w is a great way to explore different waters and get a feel of what you might want in your style. Some say one's style is actually a combination of all the styles you absorb, so don't hesitate to go with what you feel like drawing on those days!

Just my five cents :)
No one is perfect . . . that's why there's erasers and extra paper.

As the adage goes, once a raider always a raider haha. Pretty cool stuff dude. Like the perspective on the first one. Which cultural festival was that one?
