Still getting to grips with my new routine but overall it's good. Just trying to cram in some more art stuff so I have a proper output other than my daily sketch.
GIMP was freezing every couple of seconds for some reason which made it almost impossible to focus on the sketch but I managed something mostly OK.

Back from my holiday yesterday but work was super long today I was so tired. Didn't have the energy to do anything but this and then I'm gonna sleep.

A nice streak of cute sketches since I've been back from my holiday. Although I feel my style is getting a bit messed up, the consistency is more of an issue that I'm focusing on now.
Talking of consistency, I managed to not only recover my normal schedule very quickly on coming home, but I'm also managing to get all my daily tasks done quite regularly now. And I'm definitely feeling the good effects from it now, I'm getting lots of stuff done as well as exercise so I'm expecting to see some good results across the board.
The only main issue with my schedule now, is waking up early, for some reason that's still rather difficult no matter what time I go to sleep.
I'm almost at 100 proper sketches since I started the daily sketch whcih is awesome.

Productivity still seems to be on the rise, even when I lose time in the mornings I seem to get into the tasks a bit better now rather than moping over lost time.

2023-09-22

Had a rough patch of un-motivatedness but managed to pull through. Having a target of small things to reach each day gives you a quick sense of positiveness and fulfilment, which can help lift depressive episodes.
I also found, can't remember if I mentioned it before, that rather than rushing, working very slow and methodical actually results in greater productivity because you don't wear yourself out and can actually focus clearly on what you're doing. And so when I deliberately slow down, I tend to worry less and focus improves on whatever task I'm on. Just gotta remember that state of mind so that I can be productive continuously.

2023-10-20

I'm still carrying on with my daily task list and it's giving me a continual boost to productivity. I can't always find the motivation to get through all the tasks so sometimes I change the order to make sure that the same ones don't get missed all the time.
also due to being more productive I've been missing on doing a proper daily sketch for a while as well, but I'm getting more back into my usual routine of doing it early in the day rather than leaving it last minute and then I have to rush a quick sketch.
I'm also finally working on finishing the first version of my own art program which will help me with low level sketches and processing WIPs. I had paused it for a while because I found a glitch that I couldn't figure out, but now I know how to fix it I can finally continue. I'm not aiming for any bells or whistles at the moment , just a basic drawing app.

2023-10-21

Definitely getting back into the swing of things again, with the added bonus of higher productivity. Slowly getting through my long term tasks, especially a couple that once they're out of the way I'll have permanently more free time for my own projects.
Something new regarding my daily tasks that I've started to do is to block several together that I do without a break between them, and that's helping to improve productivity on days when I don't have much free time. A lot of my time is wasted on breaks which don't really help to restore my energy, just to distract me really.

2023-10-22

Quite happy with the interesting composition of this sketch, but it's not great in terms of accuracy, I've been skimping on that lately I think.
Definitely back in the swing for the moment, but been very tired lately. But fortunately I've been more productive in my waking hours so it's a fair trade off at the moment, but I'd really like to be awake for more hours in the day XD

2023-11-02

Last 2 weeks have been pretty hectic for organisation, I'm getting things done but not in the right order and it's a bit of a mess. But overall productivity on the rise and consistency also getting better. It looks like things are finally getting permanently in order, I've managed to find a system that works well with my personality to get things done.

2023-11-04

continuously hit and miss for all my projects at the moment, but I'm still getting more consistent, and it's getting easier to start projects that I'm usually apprehensive about, because either I want to do it really well, or I just don't want to do it at all XD
So technically on a positive but room for improvement.

The pressure to perform well consistently, I understand it, but tbh the entirety of your sketches from July have been great  I guess if one thing hasn't changed it's your ability to pump out art, I'm glad you haven't lost your passion

*cough* Been yet another year since I posted here. *cough*

Uhhh.... Have a few Flight Rising fanarts I did earlier this year.

And here's some prizes I did for members of my Discord server somewhat recently.

First two belong to @Suuper-san and the third to @Crystal (BobbyjoeX).

Love it Robin  Any new work recently?

That is a heck of a lot of progress! We definitely all have to step away from creating from time to time to renew ourselves though. Even if it unintentional a break is often the right thing to get us going again.

Thank you, Coryn-San! Yes I definitely agree

wow, in just 8 years you've made immense progress (I wish I could say the same for myself!). It's lovely to see your style developing through the pieces.
Would definitely like to see more in-between pics :D

And yeah anyone who looks at a beginners artwork and thinks they can't improve is pretty scummy and ignorant in my books. Glad it didn't discourage you from drawing. And secondly that's a lot better than a lot of my early works that I've posted here XD

Super it's really good to see you're still around as I said in the other post  You're one of my first buddies here too :] Thank you for your kind words. Yeah if I could speak to Mr WordL0rd again I'd hope he matured and changed his ways.

Hope you have been well my friend.

A month or so ago I had I totally forgot I had joined this forum in 2014/15? (on another acc) and I was reminiscing how me wanting to draw manga helped kickstart my art journey. Maybe I don't wish to create manga anymore (we'll see) but I did want to share my journey since the beginning. I won't spam my first post with my life story, just several images and then trickle post as time goes on.

I don't have any active art social media accounts that I want to promote and its been that way for a while, maybe in the future, for now it's greetings from an old user!

2015 - MR project - I joined a group of 7 artists or so to create a manga and this was one of my sketches for a female character. I've mentioned this story here before - but this would be the same pic an artist [who went by the name 'W0rdL0rd' and much better than me at the time would post to 'prove a point' that talent was fixed and artists could not improve; any noob that thought otherwise was arrogant. It did hurt as I looked up to him but I'm glad I used the energy positively.

2016 - The TOY TEST. I finished Uni and somehow still ended up in a toy store temporarily - I had improved quite a bit since early '15 and wanted to test myself by drawing Elsa.

2 years later I would try again.

And again during the COVID saga in 2020 - I had obviously done other works during each 2 year gap but I used the 'Elsa toy test' to measure myself.

Welcome Center / Third return to MR!!

Hey MR - good to be back! My last welcome message was on Jan 14th -2018! Time flies  :sadbye:

About a month ago I thought of my origins in art and remembered this little site I jumped on that helped kickstart my journey. I remember naively jumping into a group of 7 artists and wanting to create a manga  8) :D good times!

The goal of returning is to hopefully catch up with some old friends if they're still around, see what's changed/stayed the same and hopefully network and motivate some of the new gen artists.

I hope this year has treated you all well

I can't believe some of the old threads are still here!! :'] man.

I'm glad we made it on the other side. Sending love to those who were affected negatively by it all of course.

It's a mixed bag of trouble. Mostly it's greatly interrupted my college work since studio art... well... needs a studio and the materials there to do the work. And my other classes I'm not doing too hot as they're tricky classes and there's been next to no guidance since switching to online. I've also been stuck with my roommate and her friend that's staying with us 24/7 for the past 8 weeks and it's driving me nuts. I miss living alone...

Aside from that, I've been chipping away at some of my own projects and I was just accepted as a character colorist for a motion comic series on youtube!

Are you being refunded for any time lost at college at all? I'm hearing everyone's doing their classes online I can't imagine that's ideal AT ALL. Don't the lecturers allow you to contact them prior/post classes privately to go over any notes specifically?

So you're living out atm huh? I guess indepenance away from family is good, but you don't sound like you're over the moon about it  :D roommates can be a drag. I'm going to assume the only reason you're dealing with that is because of the opportunity you just got with the motion comic series on Youtube CONGRATS, ROBYN!! Wow, is it a paid job? I think that's fantastic as it's something you can already put forward on your resume (if you're aspiring to be in the art industry) I'm envious indeed.

Good to see you've been leveling up and achieving, and it's good to hear from you too again. ^^

I've been a bit depressed. I've mostly been depressed because I'm unable to see my friends especially my new boyfriend. It's got to be really hard for college students right now. I'm kind of glad I graduated before all this but my friend who is still in college is struggling with classes being online and has to retake a class in the fall. Also with everyone losing their jobs I'm glad I still got my job.

Jobs are a real issue right now. I'm guessing the job is providing income for you right now? I'm sorry for your college friend, I'd HATE having to retake any module when I was back at uni, I'm hearing some uni students are getting refunded for the study time lost. So it's crazy right now.

I'm not surprised it's affected people's mental health, I'm sorry you're going through it and I'm sure being away from anyone you're attached to is going to exasperate any lonliness felt during the quarantine. As long as he stays in close touch with you it might help (in a sad way) knowing he feels the same, not being with you...if that makes sense? You can cherish that feeling of being wanted by someone, not everyone gets that luxury in life :).

Keep up the facetime calls, his face and voice are what will keep you strong!
