Develop Your Story / Children of Valhalla

I changed the name of my manga and developed the story even more.

I have the first tow chapters done (The scripts anyway)

I am reluctant to post the scripts, but I want to share this.

Should I just give a synopsis? or actually post snippets of the script?

This is a free project

I do hope to get it published some day, but that would be a long way off

The title is

It is a Shonen action series, but a deconstruction of the genre (See the topic I started in the "Develop your story" section for the definition of deconstruction if you don't know)

The ones who glow:

Everyone living person in the world is animated by energy. This energy is known by many names: The Japanese called it Ki, The Chinese call it Chi, and a scientist might call it bio electricity. It is the life force that animates all creatures. Without it, the body falls apart.

Some are born with a special glow. That is, they produce an excess of life force. This excess, this glow grants power beyond that of a normal human. Over the centuries, those that glow have gone by many names, everything from monster to deity

The Norse referred to them as the Gods of Asgard. Legends tend to snowball in that way.

With the rise of science and technology, these people have been dismissed as lore and nonsense.

While not gods, these people are very real.

Like every powerful group, these people have fought amongst themselves for hundreds of years. Busy killing each other off, they weren't much threat to the rest of the world.

Then, they came, a group of people with the glow. They began to kill and steal the life force of others. They were called Nusquam. No one knew why they showed up or what they wanted, but they would not stand for it. Children with the glow rose up to fight them. Victory was achieved  after many casualties and bloodshed.

After the fall of Nusquam, there was a vacuum. Not having any outlet for their power and not knowing any other way, the children began to fight each other. They killed. Some for honor, some for glory, and some just because. One of the children who were forced to kill a former ally, finally saw the murder for what it was. With Nusquam gone, he dimmed his glow and left the others to their war.

He  retreated to a small town to live the rest of his life. There was not much opportunity for one who only knew violence. Even with a life of labor, he was happy to stop the killing. From time to time, he had missed old friends, the person he loved, and even the thrill of the fight. He wouldn’t return to that life however. He saw it for what it truly was, senseless murder.

Deep down, in  the smallest part of him, he knew that the peace wouldn’t last. He had been one of the brightest to glow. Other children would come to seek him out  with a desire to fight, to kill. Despite his guilt, despite his new found awareness, he still did not wish to die. He would face them, albeit reluctantly.

This time would be different. He would glow once again, but no longer as a child.

I am an inexperience writer, but I think I am a pretty good writer.

I would be comfortable with an inexperienced artist. We would be able to mature together as we went.

I am aiming for an art style that is a bit less stylized than most manga. I'd say a good balance between stylized and realistic.

I am a very flexible and patient person. I'd say that I am pleasant to work with.

Anyone interested?

Feel free to ask any question, no matter how insignificant it seems. I am accommodating

Develop Your Story / Deconstruction of Shonen Action
« on: August 01, 2009, 10:43:02 PM »
I am planning to write a deconstruction of Shonen Action Manga.

For those who don't know, a Shonen Action manga is an action series with a target audience of young adults.

Think Naruto, Bleach, and Soul Eater. I have found series like that to be formulaic and lacking in very much substance.

That is not to say that they aren't fun or enjoyable to watch.

It hardly motivates me to stay for the whole show. Especially, with hundreds of episodes and lots of filler.

That's why I want to make one with more meat to it.

A deconstruction is something that takes a genre and, what else, deconstructs it. It picks it apart, analyzes it, messes with, and sometimes even blurs the line of that genre.

Example: NEON GENESIS EVANGELION was a deconstruction of the MECHA genre. While it counts as mecha, it isn't like most mecha. The Eva itself is technically a mech, but it is a bio mechanical. Many mecha series have a young boy/girl piloting the robot like it's nothing. Shinji, actually acts like a real person would in his horrible situation. He pilots it because there is not another choice and it screws him up. It also has undertones of the nature of people.

I want to apply this deconstruction to Shonen action. Is anyone interested in that type of thing?

I just joined today because it seems like my type of place.

I love to write stories and I want to do a manga series

Sadly, I cannot draw to save my life.

I enjoy the deeper type of manga and anime, that with substance. Although, Shonen Action is fun on occasion too.

Don't know what else to say :-\

I'm pretty easy going and don't cause too much confrontation.

We'll get along fine  :-*
