Can't draw manga very well and am trying to still work on paneling, poses and stuff like that. But I'm a self taught animator and thats a good starting point while I try to sort out my comic stories. I'm trying to get better at what I do all around so heres a silly series I'm working on.

Develop Your Story / "Birna and the tower of death"
« on: December 31, 2022, 04:33:47 PM »
Making a  little Manga story thats aimed a little more at younger audiences(13-15). Its meant to be a series of short chapters about a stubborn little farm girl who wants to destroy the tower of death, a mysterious building that appeared in her kingdom long before she was born and is a plague upon the land.

Its a PDF in screenplay format, so its just short form writing essentially. This is meant to be simple story thats fun and doesn't entirely go where you expect it too.

Chapter 1 is simple and focuses mostly on introducing Birna as a character and primarily focuses on her flaws. Just curious how this is! You can read through the 3 and 1/4th pages. Birna has a slightly different speaking pattern than others and that's on purpose. Its an odd quirk I thought was fun.

Manga Creations / Dollars of the Damned.

I write in screenplay format(short form) and had an idea for a story that might be a comic(might make an animated pilot, I'm also an animator) but I wanted to try something different here.

So here is the logline(synopsis)

A stubborn tomboyish reporter in 1930s Texas must to save her family's newspaper discovers gangsters have opened a door to Eldritch horrors in her town.

I started on this a few days back and got what is essentially episode 1. It's meant to be to the point and a little brisk (kind of simple too). But I had 3 areas I wanted to focus on: A fun protagonist who stands out from the crowd, an interesting mystery, and a bit of a slow build up in terms of the horror part. So I'm mostly looking for feedback on these 3 elements. Any feedback is appreciated.

I did my best to try to match the tone of a 1930s horror film as well as the dialogue. I used a fair amount of 1930s slang in this, if it gets confusing just ask. Not all the 30's slang is easy to understand.

Oh, here's the protagonist character design. I'm still adjusting it some.

Members Manga / A Gift One shot
« on: July 29, 2021, 10:03:07 PM »
A wordless comic for the Silent Manga Audition. I didn't do very well, my paneling is still pretty bland and some of my angles arent so hot. If I had one more day I could have concluded this better. the flow of the last 3 pages is off. If I had a week left I could have stuck to my original ending, which was much better than this even though they're mostly the same. Its just the extra details that would have worked out better. Have a look if you like.

EDIT: Embed isn't working...fixing now.

There, fixed.

So I have my idea, not sure if its good enough for a one shot competition but I wanna go for it. I'm having some problems with one shot structure though. I've seen a lot of videos on how to write a one shot, but not many on the one shot structure.

I understand the basic structure as:

Protagonist has problem.

Protagonist is forced to face problem.

Protagonists flaw gets in the way.

Protagonist pushes beyond flaw and succeeds(or fails, depending on the story type)

resolution dependant on success or failure.

But I'm not entirely sure how accurate I am in this analysis and was hoping someone could break it down a bit further if they've done a one shot or two.

Develop Your Story / Need some feedback on a plot I'm working on...
« on: May 28, 2021, 04:01:01 AM »
I've had this idea in the back of my head for...God, almost 17 years now. The sudden and tragic death of Kentaro Miura, of whose work was an inspiration to me and god knows how many others got me thinking back to this story and finally trying to bring it to life. It's a medieval fantasy, magic, action, some supernatural horror elements and drama. I'd say its kind of shonen with some seinen elements, or the other way around.

It's about orphaned siblings, a young priest and his sister struggling to survive the world they live in. By working for the church the priest has ensured that he and his sister have a place to stay. They're forced to move around a lot due to the fact that his sister is ostracized and a target due to her appearance. Her skin and hair are ghost white, she has fangs, and unusual eyes that glow in the dark. She has no chance for the normal life she desperately wants. She hides her appearance under cloaks and a plague doctor mask.

This is a very chaotic world that they live in, the serfdom are now freemen but the knights only protect the nobility and the nobility only protects villiages that pay a protection tax. Violent gangs of thieves are everywhere and there are worse things out there in the world, like witches that prey on humanity.

The first small story arc I was looking at having was the 18 year old Priest coming to terms with the fact his 13 year old sister will never be able to have a normal life and either she is sent to a nunnery, or he'll have to take care of her for the rest of his life. Then theres her desires that come into play as well as what she's willing to endure to survive in a world she cant blend in with as well as the odd supernatural changes that started to happen recently.

Not sure how well I described stuff, its a few hrs past my usual bedtime and I was trying to word this correctly.
