Thanks guys!  :D

Clothes and limbs feel off, but the colour looks good. Try using references to see how cloth would act in such a pose. Hands are especially important to get right in an image. Good work

I've been using references and drawing roughs before doing the real thing lately, hopefully the trouble pays off! I find it hard to find references with clothes that matches my drawings though :( Usually I'd follow others' works which I like.

Not bad! I really dig the coloring and subtle shading in your pieces, they look great!

I agree about needing to fix the anatomy and perspective, though I'm not one to talk since I have yet to get either of those down myself :P (it's hard!)

Anyways keep at it, so far so good.
Thanks man.
Sorry for the laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate reply, I've been hibernating for too long. X(

I tried some ways to fix anatomy. Namely drawing placeholder dummies before the real thing, refer to 3D models/pictures before working.

There's a great book I find about anatomy, called "Moeru Bijutsu Kaibougaku - Moe Art Anatomy" (Japanese).

Anyways, thanks for the compliment!

I'm think about getting it, too. :hmm:

Just the Pro version for now. I have no need or use for the EX version. :-\
Yeah, the EX features are more on the convenience side, something that non-professionals don't really need imo.

So, yeah, I was stumbling on pixiv when I saw the ad.

Apparently it's having a 60% ~ 70% off sale until the 7th Oct (Japan time)

I'm grabbing it now cause I was always interested in it but is kinda troubled by the price. Just thinking that maybe you guys would like to know this too.  :D

Cheers, and happy drawing everyone.

I don't think it's really advertising... just pointing out there's a good deal right here now... But if mods deem this as forbidden please delete this post and sorry for the trouble!)

If you're using SAI, you might find it easier to just turn the 'stabilizer' setting up.  It'll help smooth any line you make.
Always had it up. it's 3 right now I might try tweaking it to see how it goes :)

It depends on what you're coloring with. There are really endless ways to achieve this, but without knowing what tools you're using, I might not be of help.

I use SAI though I have Photoshop CS6 too, in case it has a better method available. :D

something like this, right?
Using a lasso tool in photoshop, or the equivalent in sai, you want to draw the border of the shape. In photoshop you are able to re-draw the selection and tighten it up, probably will be able to do this in sai as well. Then you want to invert the selection (Ctrl+Shift+I in photoshop) so that you can only color outside of the shape. That's basically all I did for this.

Yeah exactly what I meant. So it's like roughly enclosing the area with the lasso tool, then proceed to draw them right? I'd try this next time, thanks!

General Discussion / How do you draw sharp edges?
« on: August 13, 2014, 01:07:51 PM »
Hi friends.
I'm still pretty much the amateur out of amateurs in drawing so this maybe a dumb question.

My title may seem weird cause I don't know exactly how to ask this... but how do you guys color an area with sharp endings, like spikes?

The best example I can think of is when you color hair, some of you might draw hard shadows which usually has a sharp tip on one/both sides.

The method I'm using now is to apply a puddle of color and erase the sides until I get a sharp end, however I find it pretty bad when I have to draw many sharp tips closely to each other... and the direction the end points at doesn't always end up to what I have in mind. Sadly I seem unable to find a better method yet =="

Can anyone share their thoughts?

[SEMI NSFW - Nudity]
Spoiler
I was searching pixiv and found this piece of fan-art of KanColle.
http://www.pixiv.net/member_illust.php?mode=medium&illust_id=45076197 (NOT MINE obviously xD)
Like the style a lot! Near what I want to achieve eventually.
So I started with the eyes this time, since it doesn't seem very hard to intimidate :D Wonder if I did a good enough job.

Left for a while going for a trip in Japan! (Dream came true yay! :D)
Nice food, nice scenery and of course full of anime goods~
I went treasure hunting going to 10+ second hand anime goods shops and bought a lot of goodies.
Japanese kept their things extremely well they're really good as new!
It's super cheap too. Prices for manga as low as $1 and game prize figures as low as $2 <3
For otakus visiting Japan, make sure to look for a Lashinban or Mandarake shop nearby anywhere you go! You won't be disappointed!!

Anyhow, finished coloring a sketch I left behind before my trip. I realized that I'm bad using the watercolor and airbrush tool, as well as drawing multiple layers of shading, so I went for simplicity again (Except for the strawberry, felt like gotta use watercolor for some reason). OR I'm just lazy again ><"
