Hey ya! It's been forever since I last posted here. Gods, I miss you all! I keep forgetting to go to the Discord thing. Anyway, I hope you guys have been doing okay, what with COVID wreaking terror all over the planet.

These days, I sleep between 4-6 hours. I'm assisting with one webtoon, and I have to update my own after the webtoon event ends on June. Luckily my neighboring artist friend can assist during crunch time. This isn't all of my workload lol. Can someone teach me how to kagebunshin? I kind of badly need it nowadays.

Here are a few thing I've scribbled recently ^^

Sketchy manga between two of my OCs.

Webtoon character concept for event.

WIP for new Patreon manga page!

I do my manga on Paint Tool SAI because I like inking and blending there better than Clip Studio. I do cross-edit between these two and Photoshop though. Haha. The writer told me this is going on paper print, too. I have no reason to half-ass. T ^ T

And a warning: this is a BL/Yaoi WIP

I had to make a separate Twitter for this one because I might give everyone a heart attack if I went and sandwiched these into the usual SFW-shounen stuff I work on lmao.

Hello, hello! I haven't been here for thousands of years. I exaggerate, haha. I just have been a bit too busy these days. I've a lot to share here, so I'll add them in through spoilers.

For updates, I'm juggling with two webtoons and recently, I've been getting requests to illustrate comicbook characters in seinen style. My schedule had filled enough, so I ended up asking for assistance again. *sweats*

Basically, I'm juggling between art and literary work - I'm also helping a client write and research for their book.

Recent stuff because yeah it's been some time lol.
From my webtoon, Ayakashi Refrain.
I kinda got busy, so I'll be updating these sometime this week.

Something sketchy. It's a couple of my characters from a Discord RP. Please read right to left!

The cover for my seinen webnovel in the works.

I played around a little bit while I was on break.

Then went back to work!

What my schedule looks like right now.
I'm a Type A through and through. Hahaha.

I still have a lot of stuff to catch up on, but I'll pay MR a visit from time to time. Do we have an active Discord I can join, though? ^^

I'm liking all your sketches and the fanarts you're doing, too! The figures and poses, in particular are my favorite (am a fan of dynamic stuff). ^___^)/ Keep it up, Mahlua!

I'm liking the Game of Thrones and YuGiOh! crossover. :D
I saw your recent strip, too! That made me chuckle. Hahaha.

Nice page!

Hey, Walter! Thanks!

I've been slow on the commission side, but I've gotten some time back on my hands so I'm going to be a juuuust a little bit frequent with the updates.

This is also a recent one, a test page for a webtoon. This series is ongoing, but the writer was looking for a takeover artist. I did my best to hit as close to the Korean-webtoon style as possible.

That's great to hear! (The sold out thing, not the work thing). I can see why too! That's a damn fine Link!

Nice work. Congrats on selling those prints.

Thanks, guys. Things have been busy.

In the meantime, here's a second page from our Patreon.
My writer friend's going all out, I hope this series runs well. ^^

Hey ya, guys!

It has been a while since I last visited. I've been buried in work for this year it seems, but I'm looking forward to taking some time off to myself for personal projects and to continue my own web series.

For now, have some prints I've made for this year's convention.

They've sold out, too. Huzzah!

Merry Christmas!  :santa:

Hey ya, Walter! Hope you had a great Christmas! Our New Year's celebration has passed -- it's a quiet, new morning. :)

H A P P Y  -  N E W  -  Y E A R , M A N G A R A I D E R S !

As a small gift, here's a quick peek at the upcoming series I'll soon be posting on Webtoons.

Updates and thoughts:

I've been feeling conflicted of sorts, since early December-- a Japanese animation studio has extended an offer to work with them after viewing my portfolio (they're the sister studio of Feel. Inc., the studio responsible for Kiss x Sis). Thing is, I'll need to relocate- and I am very hesitant to leave with only less than half my own studio taken with me lol. Other than that, it means leaving my own house unattended for long periods of time. The thought of renting out an apartment, too-- the rent is mighty expensive. OTL In the end, I told them I can't join them now, but will do so once I am able (because there's so much to prepare for - securing my house, hibernating my billing accounts, getting the proper equipment to be able to continue my work outside of theirs). The cool thing about them was that they said they will always welcome me when the time comes.

that is absolutely brilliant news about making it into the papers :P

thanks for explaining the shading, but I'm not so sure I get you, so for example this shade patch here:
Spoiler
You either:
-build up the shade bit by bit with a semi-transparent brush
or
-paint a darker shade and smudge/blur the edges out
the brushes screenshot might help, although I use GIMP so they might not be transferrable. it's more the method rather than the brushes that I'm trying to get my head around at this point :P

It's more the second approach. A darker shade, then dilute it softly with either the marker or watercolor brush. I recently had to reinstall SAI but I kept my brush settings, haha. I'll list them here when I'm back on my comp.

Woah awesome! makes me feel bad about slacking on my main project, d'oh! But congrats on making it to the newspaper!
Great cover! And that hammer looks fantastic!

Thanks, guys! These took quite a while lol.

We've got the Patreon up for the manga! The first few pages will be open for non-Patrons to read, so I'll share it here, too! Enjoy!

Updates~!
Aaaand it made its way to Jamaican news. Lol.

that's awesome to have your work on the front of a book, well done! (although it's not your book haha)

great monochrome characters there.
Can I ask, what method do you do for shading, for example, in the second to last one, the magic using one, how did you shade the tunic? some shade edges are really sharp, and other edges have a really long gradient to disappear. I've been struggling to get that sort of feel with my works, so any tips wouldbe appreciated :)

Thanks! I lay down the grayscales on SAI, and there are two ways I did the shading. One way was using the plain default brush - I played around with the settings. :) It Multiplies/darkens colors per stroke and makes for good, bold shading. The the ones with the sharp outline you've mentioned were done with this. Its fade is adjusted by using the default watercolor or marker brushes close to the end.

The other uses the first brush lightly, then diluting it gradually by markers and finally the subtle gradient with a custom watercolor brush. Unlike the first approach, I work with the gradients a little after midpoint. /I can show a screenshot of the brushes I have. ^^/

Cool character designs! My favourite is the last one. Dat Hammer
Btw, I noticed their last names are the same. Are they all related?

Thank youuu! :D Yes, they are.

D'aww, look at all this cuteness. I might totally nab your commission deets for one of my roommates. She practically hoards prints and stickers, and I know she'd appreciate the work put into them.

I dunno if I've said it before, but I'm proud to have you as a member of our community. You sure mean a heck of a lot to us. No go forth and get all the moneys at this event!

That made me smile. >__< If I have the time, I would like to hang around here longer and mingle with the rest of you guys. Q u Q This is all I can do for now. Thank you, Mahlua!

I've got a series of character designs done for character concepts, and recently one of my writers has put up his novel on Amazon. I did the art for his cover, and edited the layout as an extra. I'll be helping him with the art assets for the video promotion for his book soon. :)

As for the other artworks, I'll put them in spoiler since they're a bit large.
We already have a Patreon up for this project. ^^ I have my own Patreon but I haven't launched it yet.

Love ya last commission ( good luck with the rest!) but loving these works in particular, would like to see more of this style/look for sure
I will try to put out more works in that style. It seems people have a fondness for it, but it takes longer to finish over lined art. ^^ Thanks, dude.

nice splatoon one, it's different style to what you've produced recently and I think it looks more complete than your normal works? maybe because its less of a sketchy style and more blocky. looks great regardless.
(everyone here seems to be doing different styles lately)

It's pretty fun to switch up styles. Keeps your galleries from going stale, haha. I change styles depending on what commissioners are looking for or what genre I'm working with.

Usually, I'm stuck doing shounen work, but I had a different request recently - and it was a shoujo piece. Since it was a gift for someone, I took extra care when it came to using refs so I can grab a resemblance to the characters my commissioner had in mind.

Here's how it looks now, minus the sweet message attached to it on print. (This version is for gallery purposes.)
