Hey guys, long time no see. This year has been quite busy with school work and stuff :( but its good to be back ;D. Here's a drawing I came up with a few days ago, hopefully I've improved since last year.

BTW, I was testing out using a black coloured pencil to go over the lines so sorry for the sudden fading of the image.

Tips and Tutorials / Random pose
« on: August 29, 2013, 12:58:49 PM »
Hi everyone :) I just found an app on the AppStore (iPod/iPhone) called random pose. It has 1000 poses of humans whilst also showing the contraction of muscles in each pose. (Contains nudity so will not be suitable for younger viewers). It may serve to be a good anatomy reference.

@ Lordkesashi : Thx, the materials you gave me were really useful, (especially the skeleton) and was able to pick out some errors in the previous sketches like the shape of the legs and arms. Seems like I'm going to need to get some books on anatomy from my local library :)
@Callesthe : I'm glad you like the sketching manga style book to. I've been searching for a how to draw a manga book to keep as a reference for some time but couldn't find any that beat this series :D

I'm using the sketching manga style vol 1 and I learnt the basics from a very useful site called MangaTutorials. I wish I could buy the physical copies of the books but by looking at the prices on eBay it was evident that it would create an abyss in my wallet.

I tend to draw the outline for the body first before clothes but I'm gonna be looking into more anatomy. I've kinda learnt folds but I struggle to implement them :( For anatomy practise I have a go a drawing different poses but instead copying exactly what's in the book I've decided to create characters using those poses though I'm not sure if it counts as anatomy practice...

Loving the blackbird :) she looks so cool and beautiful at the same time. I'm a newbie at drawing manga so unfortunately I don't have any "words of wisdom" to suggest improvements.

Sorry for invading ( + I hope this doesnt count as necromancing), If you draw your sketches traditionally and scan them into manga studio would you need a tablet to edit the sketch or can you use a mouse?

I listen to "anime" music (not sure if it comes under j-pop/rock) my faves are Breakthrough and Rocking Playing Game from Fairy Tale

I've put Teal on hold (That's what ive decided to name my previous female character :) ) whilst I try to master  hands and feet. I came up with another sketch of a charcter which I think ended up quite good but think messed it up with my amateur shading :( Anyway here it is :

Ive been drawing for about four weeks :) ( learning the basics) I made a mistake whilst copying an image from a face tutorial which ended up being a face that did not resemble the face I was trying to draw(the current face on the sketch); I just decided to draw a character using her face to see the areas where I needed to work on. On the hands, I would say both, her hands are meant to be concealed but only because I'm not confident in drawing hands :(

Thx for your verdict :)

I'll be sure to fix these problems in the next sketch.

Thanks for the advice :). I increased the length of the legs and moved right eye closer but instead of narrowing the head I widened the body ( i find it hard to draw narrow feminine faces) . Here's the revised version.

Hi, Ive just signed to this forum and thought I would just upload my first attempt at drawing an original manga character up for critiques. When I finished this drawing she seemed a bit on the thin side :(. Not sure if it makes her seem weird or not.
