Happy New Year MR!!

My three main goals this year are actually not drawing and writing related for once wooo \o/ I'd like to start taking vocal lessons, study languages like Japanese and Mandarin more seriously, and the third - which I've already started by learning to play Pickleball - is trying to do more activities outside of the house.

@NO1SEY Go for it!! This piano teacher is rooting for you!!
I agree with Suuper's advice there on musical goals. My two cents would be... learning by note and by ear. Note reading will expand the number of pieces you can play, while playing by ear will help you learn songs faster, especially if you know the tune already.

Let's goooo~
I'm doing Inktober this year again. I feel so out of practice haha. It's hard not to compare to my previous years. But as always, every drawing comes out as a surprise for me.

Here are the ones I've done so far, from Day 1 - 4

Spoiler

Would love to see others' drawings if you're doing it too!

Congratulations Coryn!! That's amazing!!
It's good to have you back.

Like the skills to face the unknown, is the true skill. The ambition to keep trying, and the perseverance to overcome the odds. It's the feeling you experience while working, not the work itself.

I get this feeling! It's why I started to do more challenges and experiment with new things. The weirdest thing for me in the process though is that I forget the feeling until I'm actually working. My lack of consistency plays against me here, so that I have to relearn what I'd already done before ^^;;;

@Coryn Thanks! I surprised myself with some of these too XD

@Suuper Thanks!! Haha I am super lazy with my own works I'll admit. Doing art for others always makes me put in way more detail and effort.

RE: Lyra for Kohaku_Dragon - Actually, I was going for the nebula look XD The character is a space pirate. Might've been able to pull off something more convincing if I had looked up some references of spacey material. (Although explosions are on the list of things to do yas)

RE: Artfight - They haven't released the final scores yet (due on the 15th). Last I saw, the team I was on, Team Bloom, was ahead. But then they hid the scores a couple days before the end of the event  So the winner is yet to be announced.
It's not the best way to get yourself exposed imo? Everyone is busy getting drawings out it's easy to overlook people unfortunately.

Aaaa floaty/falling poses are my favourite. The art notes were interesting to read XD

just finished this drawing of the main character, sora!
Sora looks like a cool character O: The only thing I would mention about this drawing is that his right foot (right, from the viewer's pov) feels like it could be pointing more outwards? His leg is bent in a way that I think you would see more of the side of the foot, rather than the front.

If you meant for the foot to be front-facing, changing the wrinkles on the pants to look more front-on would probably fix that. Hope that helps!

Your character group drawings always feel so cozy~
Also the use of background and props in the most recent ones feel grounded and unified somehow. Nice work!

Art Fight is over \o/ For my first year, I found it really fun. July was a month of working on that mindset of don't think - just draw, lots of experimenting with shading & lighting, and discovering the best workflow for me in the particular style I ended up going with.

Juniper warm-up.

@Coryn I used to play. Can't remember why I stopped. I probably got caught up in doing other things....

Proceeds to launch game.

Oh right, updates. :o

@Suuper Ohh, I remember that! The nighttime one really does stand out after you see the day one.

Artfight - Organization struggle is right. I've noticed that some character refs are pretty much coloured sketches. Can't seem to bring myself to go that sketchy though

Gosh, I have come very close to jumping i to Genshin several times. Do y'all endorse it for somone with precious little gaming time these days?

:hmm: Oooph, how little is precious little?

If you're okay with taking it in small bites, then... yes.....? Somes parts do involve grinding. I'm pretty sure I've spent over 21 hours a week (3ish hours a day) on it, mostly to farm materials to level up my characters and weapons. But I find the story is interesting. And there's a lot of different areas to unlock and explore (+2 more hours hunting for every little treasure chest cough cough). But it might take a while to get through the game if played occassionally.

Hello Tenori o/

For the 2.8 update? That's scheduled for July, right? Depends on how much time you're willing to spend on getting those primos? If you just started, then it might be possible. Lots of things that can give you the extra primo too. But if you're juggling Genshin with other games, then I guess it would be up to what you prioritize more among them all.

I mostly play the game for the story. Sometimes for the characters (like how I was trying to pull for Xiao but didn't prepare  ahead of time asdlkfajlsdf). Which server are you on btw?

@Coryn Nice! Lol, I've also been constantly facing the "Draw or game?" dilemma. Happy gaming!

You can also do day/night variant shots very easily by adjusting the levels of brightness and colours.
Ohhh, I didn't even think of that. Great idea!

Depends on how you're using the animation, is it just a character icon or it follows the playable character as they move about? Or it's a playable character in its own right?
Yes to following the player around as well as being a playable character, kind of like how I used Observer in the first RPG I shared. When moving around , I'm envisioning the fish jumping from shadow puddle to puddle. But when idle, bobbing up and down. May have to make 2 different sprite sheets for that....

keep it up, hope the artfight goes well, I dont know anything about it but sounds interesting :P
Thanks! ArtFight is basically a massive art trade. You get put on one of two teams and you attack others by drawing their OCs. Then they can choose to counterattack by drawing one of your OCs.

Here's the official site for it: https://artfight.net/

I've always seen others on DA do it. Since it's my first time, I'm going to find out if it'll be fun or stressful lol.

Hi Kazumi! Welcome to the forum!
I like reading webcomics too ^^ What kind of story are you writing? Would love to hear more about it. If you're comfortable with it, feel free to share it in the Manga Writers section.
