The thing that made this amine so great (for me at any rate ;)) wasn't just the character design, music or fluid animation style but because the content had so many of its roots in events and scenarios that mankind has struggled with even to this very day.

The tragedy of loss in war, the indifferent genocide of a nation, the struggle between vengeance and forgiveness or the juggle of guilt in the fulfillment of duty. Even something as simple as losing everything you love at an early age and searching for something to make you whole again; these are all powerfully emotive conflicts which crop up through-out the series again and again, interwoven very skillfully by Hiromu Arakawa with a strong political and military theme, to the point where the entire manga/anime is downright satirical. You don't just care about the characters because they have depth and are well thought out, you care about them because you can relate to them and the struggles they face. And all this is achieved whilst telling an engaging and compelling fantasy that suits the storytelling style of anime/manga very well.

If i could ever write something that was even half as thought provoking, entertaining and inspiring as Fullmetal Alchemist i will feel fulfilled

All that said, do you think using "Fullmetal" as a pen name is an infringement of copy-write? In no way do i wish to claim credit for the name but instead seek to pay tribute to the author; it is my way of honoring him.

Well i wouldn't just use fullmetal by itself. If used as a last name it would work better.

Yeah. You have to make sure it's not ambiguous. If you really want the name to stand out use initials e.g M.J Fullmetal

Hardly a pen name at that point though. And people would view it as a rip off if you tried to be serious about it. just saying. i'd try to find something completely original.

I didnt read much of the above posts, as Im tired and lazy from work ha.

anyway this was probably the first big anime I decided to watch. I went for the dubbed version at first as at the time id been watchin anime for like a few weeks.

I loved it. I didnt find it scary now mind you ha. In my opinion its very well balanced. I liekd the fact there was no BS with it. Though it's been a while since I watched it there wasnt any filler in Brotherhood anyway.

It's a straighforward awesome anime.

My only regret really is that they didnt do anything in the romance area. I think if they had done something It wouldve been the cherry on top.

It was a really good one. The dubbed wasnt bad. I went with dubbed too sense it was my husband and I watching together. He is not big on manga/anime, but he was really into it.
I think they were kinda young for romance  but yeah they could have used the other characters for that.
It has the PERFECT ballance of funny and serious.
I didnt watch the brotherhood. Is it as good?

Despite the original being great, Brotherhood was a million times better. :3

It's been a while since ive watched the original Full Metal Alchemist but from my memories of it I loved it.

However, brotherhood was a hell of a lot better. If i recall it was closer to the manga than brotherhood, though I could be wrong.

Well with regards to the romance, perhaps they were a little too young to go all out but they could've expanded a bit at least ya know.
