And then Nairbons had a Gallery
« on: May 30, 2013, 01:03:56 PM »
Ugh.

I've been relatively silent recently, and I wanted to apologize for that. I wanted to finally start my MR art gallery with my 100th post, and have a big ol' wiz-bang piece of art-stuff to start it off. But then summer school and work started up again and the free time disappeared. I still plan on posting here soon, but I mostly wanted to start the darn gallery as post 100 so I could get back to chattin' on the regular boards

TL;DR: "Art coming soon"

Allow me to irrelevantly remind you that TKOR scripts are due June 20th.

And I'm looking forward to seeing some of your art.

I'll correct mine tomorrow to promote it to a 2nd draft. After I let people see it (hint hint paipis) I'll correct it one last time and then submit it.

Okay, I've gotten to the point where I'd start feeling comfortable while posting stuff, but...

I dunno... (Wrings hands nervously)

-joins mob-

Draw-ings! Draw-ings!

In all serious though, if you are worried about what people will think, go look at some of the newbie Art Galleries. I have never seen people being hateful, or mean to the artists. Sharing your work here doesn't mean you are putting it on trial. I think I can safely say that everyone on MR just wants to encourage each other to create more art! If you are still worried, ask people to be gentle.
I can't wait to see your work ^.^

Now, then, back to the mob *ahem*

Draw-ings! Draw-ings!

With apologies to the virtual angry mob, I got pretty sick this weekend and mostly just lurked online. I'm back up and running now, so I'll start with the little comic-thingy I made when I couldn't sleep last night:

Of course, the real joke is that while breasts are actually fairly easy to draw, hands and ears still elude me. Consequently, you can look forward to months of pinups of girls wearing mittens and earmuffs until I can work the artistic kinks out. Hey, I seriously grew up in Alaska, so the "mittens, ear muffs, snow boots, and bikini" look is actually something I can do from memory.

The other piece serves 3 purposes. First: It's Man-Tiki, a character from a visual novel parody thing a friend and I are working on.  Second, it's practice in drawing body language and facial expressions since the only moving parts on his head are the eyes and eyebrows.  Last, it's kinda what I figured my MR persona would look like, (sorry for any misconceptions, Lego).

Loving the Tiki Head. No comment on the breast thing.

Nice!
I'd like to point out two really good things that you are doing, and that you should continue!
The first is that you're drawings hands. You said you weren't very good at them, but it's great that you are drawing them anyway. Practice is the only way you will get good at drawing them! So don't hide your character's hands in gloves, just keep practicing!
The second thing that's great to see is that you are making your characters move around! You even threw in some nice foreshortening in your comic! I have seen many artists get stuck drawing their characters in just one pose. They get really good at that one pose, but in the long run, they don't have a strong base knowledge of anatomy.
So, keep drawing Tiki Head in all kinds of poses! And keep drawing those hands! You'll see improvements before long! ^.^
