What music do you listen to while you write?
« on: March 10, 2013, 10:23:02 AM »
I usually listen to 20th century classical (Penderecki, in particular), and post-hardcore (Usually At the Drive-In, Drive Like Jehu, and Fugazi).

What music do you listen to while you write?
What other ways does music interact with your writing?

Some Vocaloid tracks, they're very relaxing and motivating, especially this:

Also some OSTs from my favorite anime shows.

Ah. Yes. Anime tracks are great, too. I forgot to list them. Particularly Death Note and Fullmetal Alchemist.

I write to songs that set the mood and the scene. Whatever evokes the necessary emotion. unfortunately it makes it hard to write without a proper tune though.

Will review stories upon request. My latest arc: http://goo.gl/KYgsfF

I read your "Nightly Narrative." The music did really set the mood well. I usually do the same thing, but I usually focus more-so on finding music for the character the the story is currently following.

"just about everything"... Lots of people seem to like that group... hehehe. But, seriously, it really is good to keep the playlist diverse. And there is some seriously amazing 8-/16-bit, especially for the early Sonic the Hedgehog games.

I was beginning to find myself a bit weird. I always listen to music when I write, if not you can certainly tell the difference. I have to listen to instrumentals. Instrumentals are too much of an necessity, so much that I have a certain one for each scene. I've always been in love with music since I was a small boy. Disney is what grasped me with an iron clasp. The music , dancing and animation practically forced me into writing. But yes lol, Instrumentals!  ;D

What kind of instrumental? In terms of instrumental music in my writing playlist, I have 20th century classical as listed above, post-bop, and avant-garde jazz. Crazy, chaotic music captures my imagination and helps me focus, oddly enough.

Haha! I guess I should've elaborated more. My playlist many consist of  contemporary Jazz sprinkled heavily with anime and video-game osts. Sometime I'll listen to music-shorts from musicals I've watched. Examples: West side story, Wicked, and The Good Doctor.

Jill Scott for one. I was literally raised on her music. When I was little my mom played her music non-stop while cleaning. Now every time I clean I always have to listen to Jill Scott. From her I extended to Micheal bube,' or however you spell that, to more artists in my mom's stuffy CD case holder lol
