Writing Tips: Log Lines and Narrowing Down the Plot
« on: November 03, 2012, 06:40:38 PM »
So hey guys. I was reading some stuff (since it's National Novel Writing Month and all) about novels and I stumbled upon this site. Apparently the author of this site is an editor and knows a thing or two about what goes into a good story.

So even though this is about novels, it covers pretty much all outlets of writing, from manga to screenplays for TV shows/movies.

Clicky for linky~

The best thing you can take from it is this quote:

"Solid novel log-lines will have 1) your protagonist 2) active verb 3) active goal 4) antagonist 5) stakes."

Try to fit your story into that format. If you can't, it might be very hectic (i.e. unreadable).

My story goes something like this.

A detective working for a secret agency is seeking revenge for his partner whom was killed under suspicious circumstances that may involve a massive conspiracy orchestrated by the leader of the secret agency.

1.) A detective (protagonist) 2. seeking (active verb) 3. revenge (active goal) 4. leader of secret agency (antagonist) 5. massive conspiracy (stakes)

I hope you guys can take something from this. Cheers~
