Saw these guys (intervals) live at the beginning of the year. Very nice guys and very talented musicians (also from Canada = yes!). Great songs.

I was wondering, No1sey: have you ever listened to Failure? They were kind of a spacey "post-grunge" group back in the 90s, but I imagine you are a fan of bands such as Tool and A Perfect Circle who claim them as an influence. Here's a song of theirs that was covered by APC: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVg9GcUDArQ

Hahahaha Andrew WK! Is he even still a thing?

I was wondering, No1sey: have you ever listened to Failure? They were kind of a spacey "post-grunge" group back in the 90s, but I imagine you are a fan of bands such as Tool and A Perfect Circle who claim them as an influence. Here's a song of theirs that was covered by APC: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVg9GcUDArQ

Oops missed that one sorry... Surprisingly (for myself also) I have never been a huge fan of Tool, or A Perfect Circle. They share the same vocalist right? isn't one of them meant to be a supergroup or something? They were suggested to me a while back by one of my Dad's colleagues and I didn't really get the sound. I plan to give them both another try soon though because my tastes have widened a bit, but I'm trying to recover a lot of music after I lost my hard drive so it probably won't happen until I get most of that back.

Listening to a few songs by Failure and I just don't think they are my thing. I can't explain exactly why... there is something about the grungy sound that just doesn't grab me and keep me there, but thats not really it... I like bands like Staind fine... but it's the same feeling I get when listening to Radiohead and some of the less punchy Nirvana stuff... to me it sounds a little drony I guess???

Despite being into heavy music I still like it to sound clean and sharp and well put together, so it takes a long time for rougher sounds to resonate with me... I guess thats why???

^Understandable. I thought you'd like it's grungy atmosphere, which is why I recommended it. APC is a super-group with a touring guitarist of Failure as well as the singer from Tool. I'm not actually a huge fan of either group, but I do like Failure and Radiohead (favorite band) and Nirvana. Interesting you mention Radiohead though. Their music isn't really very heavy, particularly from OK Computer on.

Yeah.... I wasn't really thinking they sounded similar, but it was more that the reason why I wasn't coming round to Failure was the same.  I had a phase where I was trying to get myself into lots of bands outside of my usual tastes about 3 years ago, stuff like Radiohead, Massive Attack, Crystal Castles, Feeder, The Strokes and other stuff. I kept them on my ipod for ages but I just found I never listened to them so ended up taking them off to make room for stuff I actually felt motivated to listen to. But I'll keep going back and trying them out again and again to see if anythings changed. I'm always open to suggestions :)

Been listening to Parkway Drive A LOT! Absolutely love their Deep Blue album, as well as the rest. They hit like a truck but they are surprisingly tuneful.

Hands like Houses putting a swing feel on one of their songs. I really like it, but I prefer the original :P

EDIT: They have been making an album where they have reimagined their songs in different styles. It's pretty cool!

Man, as much as I greatly prefer listening to full albums in a real format and don't like headphones
mmm I love headphones. Got myself a pretty nice pair recently. Need to invest in some nicer speakers though.
