Right? Wasn't sure if I should comment because I couldn't talk about the cosplay with the huge elephant in the room. Plus the topic's sorta old.

It's a unicorn elephant apparently haha. Once a raider always a raider I guess.

Haven't seen Cory around in a while though

Once a raider, always a raider, as you said!

I don't hang around as much as I used to. My job (teacher) takes most of my time, along with all its joys (papers to grade, to correct, hysterical students parents...). I don't draw anymore, or sooo little, but I focus now my free time on cosplay because it has many creations dimensions: it's a mix of sewing, drawing, sculpting and acting.

I have FINALLY ended this cosplay, after months of trials and errors. ^^
The sword was totally remade because  the wood deformed itself (humidity?). I used foam and worbla ( a german product) to make a steady but lighter sword.

I also remade the armors because it wasn't solid and the painting was a total fail.
I used again worbla and foam: it's much more solid but a bit more heavier too.
The painting was done using guilding wax: it's ultra simple to use and it's way neater too!

The longest work was the "hips" armor. It's located on the dress sides. Took hours to make the decorative elements.

The arms armor were not that difficult to make: I followed the patterns from Kamui cosplay.

The main problem was fixing together all the elements: I used crews! Simple and reliable!

The chest armor: some bumps because of the foam underneath, but not that bad for a first armor.

The boots from hell: not confortable to walk around lol.

The second set of bracers, located under the big ones.

The whole result isn't that bad but there are some elements to correct: Some angles in the boots need to be softened, the fixing system at the waist need to be improved. For example, a part of the hands armor fixation broke down before the cosplay tornament.

I had lots of fun (and headaches) doing this cosplay. I tried it last week-end on a new manga convention not far from my place (6000 visitors): I won the second place at the solo cosplay tornament. I lost the first place because a finger armor fell down in front of the judges lol.

Lesson I learnt is that you must train and try again to improve. Same for drawing or writing.

Bravo Corycaly, bravo. That finger armour thing must've sucked a lot (and the sword too), but you really pulled it off! I'm more inclined to scarred armour than super shiny one, but the crafting is really good. Yikes. Amazing

Thanks a lot! The armor isn't shiny with normal light conditions. I guess the flashing lights made it shinier than it really is.
The finger armor fail was funny. I saw it when I was asked to take pose for pics. LOL
Cosplay is for fun, at least for me, it made me laugh a lot. ^^

I made lots of trials and errors on that project, but that taught me a lot. I will propably make a special post about the tutorials and technics I used.

Oh and yes that tidbit about training and trying again was a useful reminder.
