Pretty nice sketch ;) I like the hair and the eyes. The eyes could be more alined, but they're stilll good. Keep it up I can already see anatomy improvement :)
Btw why don't u ink? Inking can really make ur sketches a lot better and easier on the eyes. Try it ;D

Answer to Question: If I had to categorize in my infinite wealth of manga knowledge (that is a load of bull[mmph], by the way, I'm pretty ignorant of the types of manga), it would seem more shoujo than shounen. ... Then again, it could be neither. Perhaps.

Non-Inked Hair: You -can- simplify it, you know.

My Thoughts: Most of it seems pretty okie-dokie, however there are two major things my eyes are finding conflict with. One, the face looks too flat. No idea why, it just seems very... 2D-ish, when it should be portrayed as 3D. Two, the hands (judging from the size of the fingers) seem way too large for her body type and body size. Hands should be about the length of the face (my appreciations to Aldrich for that information). I have small hands for a guy (so small I can't palm a basketball.  :glare:), so mine stretch up from my chin to barely beyond my eyebrows. Some people's hands go up to their forehead. Technically speaking, length of the face would have to be taken into account, but if there was a "base-value face," you can use those measurements.

Aside from that, keep posting!

I agree with Zealapeal on the hair part. It just feels too messy and, uhm, non-manga ;D. Try simplifying it by making just a few hair strings, I don't know maybe. The rest is good :)

Your art style really isn't the basis for Shonen or Shojo... The Basis for your genre is the Story. Even if your art style my look like one commonly used for Seinen, shojo, shonen, josei and etc., if your story genre is directed a girl population of readers 15 years below, then its categorized as Shojo and same for shonen = boys.

Art style names vary by artist. For example, One Piece by Eiichiro Oda is shonen in genre, and he uses Eiichiro Oda Art Style. Skip beat by Nakamura Yoshiki is shojo in genre and she uses Nakamura Yoshiki Art Style. You can use Picasso, Da Vinci or any other art style but whether its Shonen or Shojo, It all depends on the story.
