« on: November 15, 2011, 06:25:27 PM »
I know most professional writers have to type their work but I was just wondering if i can get you guys input on this. so what im asking is do you guys feel more comfortable with writing your work or typing your work. i hope this makes sense.

typing. couldn't get the ideas out fast enough otherwise. plus its a million times easier to edit.

Typing definately. I don't have to worry about fading pencil lead, or numerous mistakes with ink, or accidentally ripping pages, or idiots who spill stuff on my notebook >:( and yeah the editing is much easier and spell check helps out when I screw up lol

I write on paper but I don't really write much, I basically write idea snippets just to recollect them as reminders, anything that comes ups suddenly I gotta write it down!

I have woken up during the night in so many occasions just to go and write up a sudden idea xD, I know that if I don't write it down instantly I'll forget about it later on.

used to be like that. didn't actually know how to type until i was 16. which sucked let me tell you. but once you learn how to type fast it's just so natural for words to flow out. my theory is that it's closer to the speed of your thoughts then writing on paper. still no contest really but it's closer.

I agree with Coryn's statement A LOT, when you learn to type specially fast it's like your thinking straight into the computer instead of typing.

Also typing deals a lot less strain to the hand than writing manually.

I've always been interested in the traditional feel to writing in paper, i'll definately do it some time but otherwise right now i'm all for typing. At the very least i should have a typewriter.

Dunno if I can still post here, but I might as well.

Personally, for me, it depends. I like writing on paper when it's something like character designs and backgrounds and all that, but I like typing more for my stories.

The only exception is my main project, which I started in a book; for me, at the time it was about getting the idea out, and for me I think it's more convenient, since the books I use are really easy to take around, and I can jot any ideas down at any time. That's generally harder to do with laptops and such. I'm in the process of transferring from the books onto my laptop, but I still use the books for the above reasons.

The editing problem isn't too much of an issue for me. To me, the important thing is to get the ideas down before you lose them. Once I type it up, I can then look at what I've written, see what can be improved or changed, and change that.

So I think they're both good, in their own ways.

Yeah I agree. Either way it goes both writing and typing has their advantages and disadvantages. It all depends on a what the person feels most comfortable with. Also, inu it's okay to post in old topics. If you a see a topic whether new or old that peeks your interest and you want to give your thoughts on them then feel free. Besides it's good to bring back old topics sometimes.

I'm guessing certain workshops also are immune to that right? I mean if it's a helpful workshop exercise then it should be fine.

Anyways I do both since I like jotting down notes and ideas on paper, but when it comes to finalization I like to type since my handwriting is garbage :3.
I hate you ^_^

I feel like this discussion is already over, but im going to say what i think anyway. Like typing is good and all but i love writing on paper. It may be a waste of time, but it for some reason it just feels better. I mean ofcourse typing is faster and easier to edit and writing is more handy becuase you can have it around at any time. But with typing i feel isolated somehow its kinda weird but thats how i feel haha. Gues im just crazy!

But honestly i think the change of scenery with writing is the best i get inspiration from it, rather than being stuck in a room with the only extent of range to where i can go consists of where an outlet is. Final decision= Writing it da' best!
