I have that problem a lot. ;-)

One thing that can REALLY help is to look at the drawing in a mirror (or if it is digital just mirror it on the computer). Your brain thinks of the reversed image as a new picture, and you are able to notice mistakes and alignment/proportion issues immediately (just like when you critique someone else's work). Sometimes some of my mirror images look so bad I wonder how my eyes/brain didn't notice.
