I have to say answer won't be very encouraging. Beginner artists would get paid around 500$ per 20-50 pages and around 10% royalties depending how they value your creation. I meant the highest you would get as an new artists.

But authors of those Mega series earn a lot. For example One Piece Creator Eiichiro Oda earns around 24 million USD annually from all royalties. Last year over 32,343,809 One Piece volumes were sold around the world and He earned around $15 million from those alone.

But unfortunately not every creator is lucky like that.

Still just having an opportunity to get published is a good thing. Even with a low salary.

I could give infos about european comics artists but I have no idea about american ones. You should check the editors sites, maybe you will find it there.

Kite I agree with you about getting creations published is a good thing. But it's not great as a full time work if you get pretty low income. If you can't earn enough to live from it sooner or later you could have to give it up to work more or get bored with it because financial problems in life.

So it's better do it as part time thing. If you make a hit and start earning a lot then you can move into creating Manga or comics full time. It's the more practical method in my opinion.

We must remember that being a comics/manga artist is a dream but rarely makes a good income. You get 100 to 300 usd by page, but remember that it takes days, sometimes  a week to make a page. Your income will depend from your rythm, meaning you have to be independant and strong minded to assure your work from home by yourself.

Conclusion: you earn 100 usd for a week of work! If you compare it with a normal job, it's far from a ideal income.

Publishing is the easy part. Earning money is the hard part. Making a regular salary is the nearly impossible part.

If you're a professional it shouldn't take that long. Just think about the manga artists in Japan who make about 18 pages weekly.

Kite, I have this information from the dozens of professional manga/comics artists I have met for years in festivals.
A page takes time: from the storyboard, to the sketching, inking and shading, it usually takes days.

Besides, there is a major difference between Japanese mangaka and European/American author: a Japanese author never
works alone, he has a full team of assistants in charge of backrgrounds, inking etc. That team can be composed of four to more than  12 assistants.
The work hours are different too, if you remember the week scheduleI had posted some weeks ago: Japanese mangaka have only three free hours each week and sleep less than 8 hours a day, with no day off.

Yes, they can make 18 pages a week, but remember they don't work in the same conditions as European or American artists...
and end up in hospital with huge hands problems or  exhaustion symptoms more often than not.

Also Those Japanese elite authors have their own staff for doing all the stuff. If you earn 1 million per month it's not hard.

For beginner artists It's better having more stable income from full time job and doing Manga as part time.

That's true, and we have to keep in mind that many authors begin with doujinshi and/or hentai, cause it's a good way to bring a loooot of fans.

True. Hentai / Ecchi Manga/Anime has a bigger demand. But again you have to be very good at body Anatomy. I remember long ago a Japanese artist told me the best way to study anatomy is read Hentai specially paying attention to characters. xDDD
