Photoshop is nice but I stopped using it because of the slowdowns in high resolution. I need a new computer I think

@TK-Seki yeah GIMP is great. thanks!

@KeanFox I think a lot of programs would struggle at higher resolutions, but yeah having a better computer would help :)

not much for a first year post, but hey whatever.
some improved wips

@walterB ohhhhh yeah!!!!!

@lego thanks. well they look ok small like they are now but if you zoom in (on the full res ones) theres mistakes and stuff everywhere. that's the sort of stuff I want to fix now

some headshots that I added bodies to. I'm considering joining sketch survival again and pacing myself for a little each day rather than a huge art day which more often than not failed heavily :P

@eukocar thanks! it's hard to keep the habit going (T_T)

heres some linearts. took 50 minutes. i hate my past self (1 hour ago) for thinking the sketches had enough information to actually ink stress free.

however, a near perfect ahoge on the chibi one imo :P

Mwaha. I might have you cornered on the market of hating past self but we shall have to see as you progress.

If you coloured 14 alone and blew it up it'd be the cover for a manga and anime even. And also 3 begs to be a character in a 4koma or something haha.

You probably already mentioned, but how many WIPs do you have to go through to be finished btw?

haha I think self-hate is a problem a lot of artists face a lot of the time :P

yeah if i see the chance i will definitely use the characters for something or other :P
and they will also get coloured at some point so watch this space :)

well it changes a lot but the current wip count is 3377 lol
only about 10% are worth finishing, but if i can get in practice on ones that don't matter, then i'll have the skill for when it does :)
also every month i sift through my sketches and add to the pile, so it will never be "finished", but if i dont have any wips older than say 4 months then i'll have "caught up"

Also......this week in suuper news:
I found out the difference between lossy and lossless compression and jpg vs png file types. I feel like an idiot for using jpg for my linearts. i had noticed some artifacts when working with them which is why i increased my resolution, but png doesnt have that problem which i never knew. amazing, right?
i need to rewrite my applets and so on to use png where appropriate :P
and hopefully i can work at a bit lower resolutions which will save my cpu a bit XD

3377 daaaamn lol. Well that's a heck of a lot of practice to look forward to.

Also I had no idea jpegs were that nasty to quality. I'll keep that in mind.

I don't think it will ever drop below 2000 tbh, but I'm not so bothered about that. In fact, it's nice to have a few hundred or so as I pick them randomly to work on, so it's nice to be surprised :P

jpgs are not insanely nasty (I mean I started using png because that was the default file type in GIMP, but at some point it changed to jpg and I never really noticed the difference) but it hinders you getting that top notch quality when filesize isn't an issue. And it's not like png is a million times larger, it's maybe double or triple in my case.

heres an example of how jpg and png quality differ.
Spoiler
png - the lines are crisp and clear. the image is compressed but there is no loss of information. Every time the file is opened/edited it will save the same.

jpg  - there are extra dots and stuff that appear because the data has been compressed and information has been lost. Every time the file is opened/edited, it will get lower in quality.

edit: some more Shinon

yeah, Lego started it off with drawing 1000 boxes, was it? then after he did 1000 hands I thought maybe it would work for me doing a whole bunch of something all in one go, and so the 1000x regime was born. I've done 1000 figures and now it's 1000 faces/expressions.
It's a good challenge to push your creativity, as well as improve by doing lot's of what you're bad at!
