Oh my, I think I just saw suuper having drawn men and boys. That's certainly a nice change. And hey, it's okay to be productive in other ways, too. At least, that's what I tell myself.

Dem bods ands faces Suuper, it's pretty cool to see your output haha. You are a rare creature of the night sometimes.

And haha, I envy your ability to draw kawaii in the first place. If I could consistently do it I'd abandon drawing dudes altogether lel.

Really like your poses, and your respect for proportion-sama.

the trouble is timewise I spend about 85% gesture to 15% original, but I think it should be closer to about 60-40.
Often I am left with very little time to draw something of my own invention because I had too long a warm up. I'm working to cut that down in my special training mode, but I dont know what I am doing as always :P

actually its kinda depressing this year out of about 200 pages, I've only produced 13 noteworthy artworks, the rest are just sketchy sketches and gestures.

My output pales compared to 2013-2015 where I would have done about triple the pages, but circumstances considered I don't let that particular thought get me down.

regarding proportions, I think I might be on the verge of some sort of breakthrough with male/female/adult/child guideline differentiation.

If its any help,so far I have discovered that the guidelines for drawing a different character are actually more similar than you would expect. Its often the culmination of small changes throughout the person that makes the overall difference seem larger. This applies to relatively normal "realistic" proportioned characters, not crazy anime stuff, although it leans into being applicable everywhere. I have a few documentations of this which I will post at some time.

As for the warm up thing, maybe only allot yourself thirty minutes maximum for those things, and then after those thirty minutes are up, whatever's there is there and it will not be worked on past that point.

I know what you mean. Having over 100 characters, I know that it's actually really easy to use the same proportions (generally speaking) and come out with widely different looking characters regardless. It's just a matter of breaking down those proportions into what you want them to do. I often find myself thinking of like, the overall goal of the character's design and apply that to a basic figure.

@mahlua yeah a timed warmup amount might be the thing I need.

wow, 100 characters????? I bet you need to keep character sheets to keep a track of them!!

Head's a bit large on the top right figure on the second page, but it looks like you progressed and got around to getting the "proportions" down. I'm liking the new variety. And here we see Suuper drawing dudes!

(Yeah, I've tried quite a few times to get them down in group shots with up to twelve or even sixteen characters per page, but I don't have one solid collection of them from any one era of my art. I've tried character sheets, too--they're strewn through my old clipboard case. They're quite a few years old, though.)

@walter thanks!

@mahlua maybe collating all your characters and redrawing them would make a good project hmmmm. the redraw meme doesn't get enough use around here IMHO

latest: used a random object as a base thought to make characters a bit more varied. I included the objects so you can laugh with me :P

Head still looking a little big, but I like the variety, at least. Might steal that idea later for sketch ideas.

Yeah I've did head height as the base circle but I'm wondering if it should probably been the whole head including the chin, which would make the overall height larger. pretty sure I did a stupid there :P

And its great to have a random inspiration, even if the end result is not at all related.

so something strange happened. well, two things. I decided to take my own advice, and the advice actually worked (I think)

heres my latest full-time piece, took 70 minutes which still could have been longer but I ran out of stuff to add.
cel shaded version took 20 mins less. they look pretty darn good to me so hopefully thats not just my rose coloured glasses :P

@eukocar thanks. this advice from my wall of text I posted on Mahlua's thread. It's especially applicable to me as I spend almost all my time on 3-5 min sketches, and if I'm lucky, 10-15 minute ones.

Something that I have been trying lately but not actually doing (well played me), is spending a little more time and doing a full-time piece every now then. So maybe every 2 weeks, spend 2 hours or whatever is your maximum skill on a piece, take your time, double check lines and guidelines as much as you need. treat it like a commission in that you have to finish it even if its (what you consider) bad. Chances are you will produce a comparatively high level piece compared to your normal sketches.

I was pleasantly surprised that actually spending time on a piece actually does allow you to put your full skill into it. Also strange how I have improved despite not doing any full pieces for ages, but only little sketches. Every little helps, I guess :P
Whether the next one will be as good, we shall see :P

@Vikings1428 thanks! the hair method is one I really like doing because it makes it really shiny :)
