@No1sy Thanks ^^ It's certainly easier for me to do a sketchy style as I don't have to worry about cleaning it up too much afterwards haha. Maybe I'll explore it more! Also, glad that you feel that about the 4th picture. That's what I was going for XD

@Suuper Thanks!

Update --

This past month I didn't get to doing many finished drawings. It's been busy =A= And I usually prefer to draw when I'm absolutely relaxed.

However, I did do a lot of sketching. Quick little things doodles of my characters. Here are a few from over the past months (took 'em with my phone instead of scanning them).

Ooh! The one sketch with the girl aiming the gun has a really great sense of movement and style to it! It really stands out amongst the rest (and that crooked smile sends a shiver down my spine).

Will review stories upon request. My latest arc: http://goo.gl/KYgsfF

yup scanning is a pain, I usually wait until I have like 100 pages then do them all at once haha

but all those pages look very awesome! seeing sketch pages like this really helps to see the mindset behind your composition and thoughts a lot more I think.

@Coryn - Thanks! I like that one too ^^ though I wish I could draw more poses like that more easily

@Suuper - Ohh that's true :o Maybe in the future I'll post more sketches that aren't so touched up.

Update --

The latter half of the month I've been working on a prompt-based challenge that's hosted by a friend on DA. It's called the August Daily Sketch Initiative and it's just a fun exercise to keep our drawing gears rolling through the month. These were done very hastily in usually 2-3 hours, not being too picky about super clean lines (which is my usual preference). I missed the first half, but here are the one's I've done so far:

Day 15 - Empty

From here I began doing a connected series of drawings --
Day 16 - Endurance

Day 17 - Letters from Afar

Day 18 - Resilience

Day 19 - Disconnect

Day 20 - Forever Best Friends

Day 21 - Go to Porto

Day 22 - Pack Your Boxes

Echo you've gotta teach me how to draw with pencil that well haha. I just love how distinct and flowy it is. You definitely developed a style. 15 is so much mood, 18 is coolbeans and 22 is my favourite haha.

How is DA these days? I must admit I haven't really used it as much as I'd like to.

Keep at it!

Clean, dynamic, super recognisable, and fantastically composed. Echo, can you please just publish your comic already!? The pics are also giving me DnD vibes!

Honestly, even though you’ve given a disclaimer about the line work, I think a critic would have to be extremely harsh to have anything negative to say about it! If this is the result of you being “hasty” then I reckon you could probably afford to take it easy every now and then... because the results are still great!

@Lego
I don't know how to teach you, Lego, I'm sorry QAQ I could show you how I do it, possibly? (Need to figure out how to stream a traditional drawing - or I could take a video I suppose?)
One exercise that I do that might be helpful is practicing drawing leaf shapes... Thin ones, long ones, fat ones. Just lots of curvy tapered shapes.  :-\  When I'm bored I like to doodle those kinds of things. Any kind of pencil. Draw over the lines twice - I think that's the main thing. Getting the hand used to drawing over long curvy lines. Not sure if that helps. I'll think of other tips in the meantime!

Here's an example of what I end up with sometimes.
Spoiler

Oh, and DA is a loooooot slower now and less active ever since they changed the interface and people jumped ship. To be honest, it's not as fun to be on there as before but I still use it to post art on.

@ No1sy - Thank you!! I'm not sure if I'd have the commitment to complete a full comic, but it's on the list for sure! The only reason I mention hasty is because I'm usually doing these hours before midnight LOL. But thanks so much! QwQ

@Hati - *Echo uses defend!*
Thank you! >w<

Update --

Continuation of the art challenge. Three days left, including today.
As a note, I usually do a brief sketch warmup before each drawing. I like to use D.Gray-man for references and inspiration c:

Day 23 - Funny

Day 24 - Social Media Detoxing

Day 25 - Still the Same

Day 26 - Against the Odds

Day 27 - The City's Lights

Day 28 - Dark

woah! so much since I last was on!
I love the leafy doodle shapes - so many directions you could take that and very relaxing I'm sure. filling an entire page sounds fun :D
nice to see your manga pages, and I think the quality/level you have, for clothing etc, is not too complicated so it wont take ages to draw your pages.
good motion and effects in the manga pages too.

@Suuper - Thanks!
Oh yeah. It's like freewriting in art. Do try it ^^ At the end it's like a page out of a colouring book! I do it with more angular shapes too when I'm not feeling curves. Diamonds work well for that.
Some have actually asked if this was an actual comic haha. I have an idea to connect it all together. I think my only struggle is panels. Choosing the best one for the shot and progression of scene... guess that's something better learned through practical application.

Update --

Wheeeeee last three pages of the challenge and the story wraps up - or does it?

Day 29 - I Miss You

Day 30 - Amber

Day 31 - We'll Get There

I had a blast with Day 30 trying follow the reference for a front walking pose. Absolutely treacherous slant when I first sketched it out. It was worth doing though and I think I understand it a bit better.

Side note, ponchos.... just... I'm set with it being part of her second design, but... I didn't realize how much harder it would be to draw compared to a big sweater  :confused:

Awwww man I was enjoying these a lot! I hope you feel like you want to do more in the future.

It's interesting how much of a story comes though even with 30 individual pages of artwork. Well done on that front. I reckon you would actually be pretty good at 4-koma (Yonkoma)!

I'm failing to see how a poncho is more difficult than a sweater though...?!?

Yeah panel composition eludes me for the most part haha. It's totally something that comes with experience I'm sure.

That's some lovely artworks to finish off  the set!
A forward walking pose was one of my earliest poses that I started using as a variant to a standing pose. It can be a bit annoying to get it right, as with any pose XD.

I'm a big fan of ponchos but they are indeed hard to draw :P
I find that there's a limited number of folds to show depth a lot of the time, but I suppose it depends on the material it's made from :/

@No1sy Glad you enjoyed it! I do have more in store for this idea!
I love Yonkoma XD Especially the comedy aspect to it. Also chibis. I think I've done 1-2 before?
So the main problem I had with the poncho was that since it doesn't have sleeves, the fabric around the arms acts differently and I couldn't figure how to visualize the movement with the arms ^^;

@Suuper Thanks! I guess that's where thumb nailing comes in. Lego seems to have got the hang of it.
Right? In poses like those I've had to accept how flexible the body actually is and sometimes you only see part of it o_O
Yeah, that's my struggle too there with ponchos.

Update --

Didn't get to do much much drawing this month. The few I did were digital sketches and whatnot.

Reference for the Mage character in the challenge drawings. I always tend to use gray and blue for the wind element. Not quite sure about the palette yet. I'm intending to add some brighter accents. Oh yes! Her name is Sanna ^^

DRAW YOUR OUTFIT RIGHT NOW prompt that I saw on IG first thing in the morning.
