haha it's on the list, and not just a general to-do list, but my actual scheduled to-do's (it's about 5th, after colour studies and a lineart regime, and finishing off my open requests as well). I'm planning to do at least 4 one-shots and a one-volume story, possibly with other regimes in the middle :P

awesome! Every single one is instantly recognizable, even the ones from shows I haven't seen!
these would make nice trading/playing cards or something!
a slightly side point, but this minimalist style is very suited to vector art
I'm constantly amazed at how many characters you fit onto a single illustration XD

Again, this will make a really nice rug. Minimalism takes a lot of work because have to get the character with so little. Good work here.

Neat stuff Walter! I'd be interested in seeing you start taking out elements from that piece and simplifying things further to see at what point you're unable to convey who is who.

Will review stories upon request. My latest arc: http://goo.gl/KYgsfF

Thanks! I guess some of them are generic enough that you would not be able to identify them without the context (kurapika from HxH, nami from One Piece).

yeah context does help. often the artists original style helps to identify a character if they are a bit of a generic character design.
This is sort of a checklist for good character design - "how simplified can the character be before they are not recognizable?"
I heard a similar one aaaages ago, "if your character was wearing a generic outfit and changed their hairstyle, would they still be recognizable?"
while outfit and hairstyle are important in character design and help in identifying characters, the face is also important in keeping the characters fresh ,unique and identifiable.
