Improved?
« on: December 08, 2010, 04:04:59 PM »
So, I'm trying to get a manga published. But of course there is a problem...MY ART STINKS. Its okay at pulling off chibi style and such. But not good enough for publishing. Below are some characters (Not the one in my manga, but just to give an idea of my skill) hopefully you can give me some tips and advice?

Also, I'm really sorry if you can't see it clearly. I think it was the scanner. But it might've been me. It was probably me.

These images were from a scraped idea since the story didn't go very far.

welcome to mangaraiders! why don't you go to the welcome center and introduce yourself!

as for your artwork there isnt too much to tell you. it's a practice makes perfect situation really. i would suggest studying manga in the style that you're going for and try to replicate it. from there you can start to craft your own style.

You're a fan of soul eater aren't you hehe ?

I agree with Coryn , you should practice, practice and practice.
Study anatomy, how proportions are laid , try to copy some interesting perspectives drawn by well known manga authors.

I believe it's still early before you publish a manga, not to discourage you or anything. But your drawing need to be "almost" perfect.

You're starting good :) , especially that you're willing to post your art and ask for guidance.
Keep it up pal :D

I'd say that you should draw ten pages of fanart (Copycat style (not tracing!)). You're 14 so I guess that there's not much homework to be done = you've got the time to do it.
You should doodle in class too.
Prolly you should go to deviant art and search for some proportion tutorials.
Watch some ecchi it'll help

Yeah I do doodle a lot. But it still keeps getting the same result. I will check out ecchi and keep practicing. Thanx for the advice!

But still, be serious when you doodle. Oh, and one thing that might or might not help you is to think for yourself what could be done better. Then redraw  it all (not fixing unless it's a small issue). And don't hesitate to look at your own body ;)

There goes Kite again, letting 14-year old kids watch ecchi.

Not that I don't do that. >_>'

Anyhow, your art's fine, except it's kinda stiff. Perhaps you should start working with skeletons, that way you can create good poses and build your characters around them. You could also learn a thing or two about proportions, although that might just be because it's chibi.

Uh, I found out what ecchi is, and I just realised that my mom was behind me the whole time...

Anyway, I did notice its quite chibi. I'm going to try to get it more serious. >:)

But not too serious, I don't want to make another death note....

Btw, shouldn't this topic be moved to the art section r something? o_o''

And.. you don't know what ecchi is? Start of with Love Hina
And Toasty's right about the proportion thing, but it takes time and can't be learned from one day to another

Hi.

I see your are somewhat new at it, so i would suggest that you trace 1 or two drawings (By tracing i dont mean drawing on the lines with some paper you can look through, just look and copy). and thoughout the process, look at the lines, what do they tell you? and why are they placed how they are.

e.g Why are that fold there?  Howcome the shoulder is placed there?  howcome the arm is thin in that pose?

Try to compare it to human anatomy, and look at the traced picture again. did you make it entirely correct? and what is not correct.

After this, try to look at another picture. and draw that picture, but not tracing it, make another pose, another perspective, maybe other cloths.

(Please note, do NOT claim traced pictures as your own. so dont bother uploading em)

and dont ever make tracing a habbit, then you end up screwing your drawings in the future by memorizing what you traced long time ago.

anyways. after this, it would be a good idea to look at anatomy toturials (Which im really really bad at myself! xD) and then move onto posing toturials.

This is a really, really good place to practice drawing. I'm sure if you do this reguraly each day you'll have results within the month:

The bodies are all fleshy. It kind of reminds me of the time my science teacher dissected a rat.
