Manga Dax
« on: October 03, 2010, 12:03:00 PM »
The first manga event in my region for years: Manga Dax! I nearly had a ceisure learning that this miracle would happen: a manga convention less than 500 km away!

It's the first edition of Manga Dax, organised by a local book shop whose sellers are manga fan.
The program seemed rich and varied: bjd demo, fanzines, figurines shops, artists, martial arts and ikebana demos...AND COSPLAY!!

I repaired and repainted my Yuko kimono cosplay in  emergency especially for this event!

I had hell to find my way into that town to find the event place, no way to find your way to the place T__T

I was disappointed at first because the manga convention was very little, but seeing I had driven one hour for it, I wasn't about to leave immediately. >o<

First stop: the goodies shop!Tons of figurines from Bleach, Death note, Saint Seya, Final Fantasy, FMA etc etc
I had hell resisting this shop!

Second attraction: the martial arts demonstration: Those guys were showing off self defenses moves. It seemed so fluid and easy, really fascinating!

Then came the Ikebana association: they had several bouquets and explained gently their meaning. Zen and complicated!

I was really happy because there were fanzines from very talented artists! I was lucky because one of my favorite artists, Sano was there! ^o^
I bought her two fanzines, bookmarkers and a mug! She gave me one of her drawings too!!!

I was a bit shy to put on my cosplay: the convention was little yet full of people but no cosplay on sight. Seeing a hige D Gray Man cosplay convinced me to wear my Yuko outfit.
I didn't expect such reactions: lots of people stopped and asked me if they could take pics! oO

The convention organisers, who were cosplayed too came to meet me and gave me gifts just because I was cosplayed ^^!

The best part is that I met other local cosplayers, we talked a lot about our passion and exchanged mails. They were surprised because they said I looked 18 years old, and not 25 with the make up lol

The convention responsables took pics of me, we made group pics which will be on their fb account soon. That was the occasion to share our manga passion and to know more about this convention.

I'll post more once I'm back at the flat ^o^

500 km and it only took you 1 hour to drive there? O_o How fast were you driving Cory?!!?!

The great thing about being a cosplayer at new cons is that there usually are very few people that cosplay there. You're such an attention stealer Cory!

Corycaly: Stealing the gazes and breaking the hearts of other convention-goers. xD

I can't wait to see the pictures.
I'm back~~~

Did I say I was interviewed by a big radio to talk about my cosplay?  ^o^

And the place was gorgeous, it was facing a cathedral!

I met local cosplayers which I hope to meet again, maybe for cosplay groups.

I was a bit shy at first, when I entered the hall with my cosplay on. It's well easier to cosplay in big manga conventions than in little ones lol
I had prepared my make up at home , it's not as red nor as good as the one I had in Paris but I like it.

I was surprised because no one made mean comments, they asked questions, many knew the cosplay world, it was really a gentle atmopshere. In this convention, You didn't feel like an alien because you liked manga and cosplay: That's the most formidable thing of this brand new little but dynamic convention.

I'll add more stuff about two fabulous authors I met (one is working for Arcana editions and soon for Marvel ^o^)
Some pics!

Drawing made by the artist Sano

Mug I bought (made by Sano)

Gifts I got because I was cosplayed

I got a great manga metal pen box but no pic T__T

Cosplay pics will be posted in facebook convention account tomorrow! ^o^

When I first entered the convention, my first reaction was "I drive hours for THIS??" but since the convention was dynamic and had many visitors, the size of the place didn't matter. I talked with the convention directors, they will expand the convention next year for sure seeing the success it had. ^o^

About the radio interview:
They wanted informations about my cosplay: which character, which anime, why I choose it, why Yuko wears such outfits ...

I think the guy was surprised to learn that Yuko outfits were kinda crazy lol

I tried to be as clear as possible to show the guy that cosplayers are reasonnable person and not psycho teens . We talked more (after the questions) about what cosplay was and how I did it, the guy was interested gentle and polite. I hope the radio final result won't be a deformed version of what I said

Looks nice. sometimes smallish exhibitions are better than those huge exibition where you can't even breath.
