It's pretty touch and go but getting better. Finally flexing my art muscles again. Seriously need more organisation in several areas of my life but I am bona fide optimistic for once haha.

optimism is awesome, I think just having a positive attitude can contribute so much to progress so it's good to have if you can :D

Welp, it was good while it lasted haha. Lions and tigers come running whenever I'm in the zone it's ridiculous. Definitely been knocked down a few inches optimism-wise, but at least I'm still drawing haha.

I'm exploring my ability to express ideas more rather than the infinite journey for anatomic perfection. They're not mutually exclusive, but I'm going to try to focus on a more thumbnail concept expression of art than focusing on the final finished product.

It might help me win over my fear of backgrounds, and potentially improve my 'sketch stage' (of which, tbh doesn't exist on my front) so that my complete stage looks just a tad bit better.

That's great! the advantage of thumbnailing ideas is that you dont have to worry about the proportions and you can really go to town on the idea itself, and then worry about getting it right later on.
In my opinion, or at least in my own art-theory/methodology, concepts are exactly mutually exclusive with correct/finished drawings. Keeping the distinction and the separation is what keeps your concepts fluid and your finished works polished. That's my take on it.

I can say from experience that it totally helps to get into backgrounds.

You have mentioned a few times that you dont have a sketch style, what in your mind is a sketch? because I personally would say that almost everything you do would count as one typically, such as the ones you just posted.
Do you mean like a draft for a final piece?

Domo harigatou Walt, and welcome back!

Just want to be posting my usual doodles here. Haven't done a for fun drawing in too long

@ suuper I still keep on forgetting about how useful thumbnailing is haha. I'll try it out next time.

And yeah to be honest Re:Sketches none of my drawings really quite break the bar for finished piece. I just call all of my stuff drawings instead to keep things simple. I doubt I'll ever grow out of the habit.

Using scribbles to get my brain out of a box a bit. Not too happy with the results but glad I've drawn something a bit different in a while. Will be doing this for a bit methinks

that kawaii ant is probably the best thing I have seen today :P

the range of ideas you can come up with is mad, especially from scribbles. I can't say I've had too much luck working with scribbles lol

I'm having the opposite problem and it's really frustrating me. Even stick figures aren't working right now for some reason, but I need a mannequin dammit.

All your characters proportions vary so much I think in some case having a reference figure might not help too much!

Nonetheless nice set of sketches.

I suspect much like me you're probably drawing too fast for your brain to actually process the proportions and information to draw the pose better. It is very hard to draw an accurate character first time, because we are splitting our brain power between ideas for the character and information to actually draw it correctly. That's what I think, so I do concepts on their own which are permanently badly drawn, and then go over them all and clean them up with a layer of proportion fixing.

Thanks ye two.

4 months later I finally managed a sketch dump. So so so rusty but better than nothing I suppose haha.
