How to start guide

You want to start drawing but wonder what you'll need? Here is the topic which will help you!
We will list here all the necessary tools, from pens to books and sites to buy them!

Tools
. normal paper for print will be enough to start drawing: no need to buy expensive paper when you'll use it for trainings.


.pen: a paper pen (hb2 is ok) you will find at every supermarker on the school section. Just be careful to take one which can be erased easily.

. a eraser: a white one is better because some papers may get pink/blue stains from colored erasers. Keep it clean and it should be ok!

. a black pen to ink:BE CAREFUL!!! Most of the school pens aren't adapted. They don't dry quickly, make stains...Use sakura pens or pens like that: take one of 0.1mm, one of 0.3mm and one of 0.5 mm for the beginning.



. Books
You prefer using books to learn the basics? No problem!

• how to draw manga books: complete collection for every theme! It may be complicated to use them at the beginning but they are a useful ressource.

PC STUFF
. Gimp: a total free program to color and draw!
. MANGA STUDIO: the simplest and easiest way to create line arts or manga pages, tons of ressources!!!
.a pen tablet: a useful tool to draw easily on your pc, using a pen! Wacom ones are the best, a a6 Wacom bamboo one (you can have them at less than 40 usd now) is ok!)
.google: the best way to find tutorials !

Pens should be in ( ), 'cause it's not something you need when you start to draw :3 Online tutorials can also be a great help :3

I try drawing something at least once a day, but other than that I don't really practice much. I at least want to get good enough to do half decent character sketches for my stories.

I think that should be thrown in there that even if you don't have alot of time just doing some doodles every day can help.

i actually use a faber castle mechanical pencil in drawing .. :3
and a ruler  too ^^

i agree, the simpler you start the less you worry about and can focus on more important things like actually drawing and getting better. until you are insanely good you don't have to even think about upgrading your drawing equipment.
although if you do a lot of shading the cheapest pencils aren't the best, they often are not consistent and you have to be really good to get a decent shade.
i just use a cheap ink pen if anything to ink up my drawings if i can be bothered, but i wouldn't really recommend it, the ink tends to run if you draw slowly and the lines look too thick. i manage with it cos my drawings aren't that good to worry about messing up :P
