Manga Artists Battle Ground - Rules and Getting Started
« on: December 26, 2009, 01:01:15 AM »
Welcome to the Manga Raiders Character Fight!

Character Fight is a fun turn-based manga between two members that originated on Cartoon Thai Studios (CTS) and was brought over by Red_Romanov as well as Prim and Trio. In the transition from CTS to MR, it was decided that creating a more fair environment for all participants was necessary so the Manga Raiders Character Fight will have some changes compared to the one on CTS.

Current Rules:
1. Character Fights must be rated at PG-13 or under
2. Players should discuss their character fight in the time they are allowed for their match
3. Players of the same level should be roughly evenly matched
4. Critiques should be done during the voting stage of the CF.
5. Harming or killing another player's character is permitted only with their permission
6. All CFs must be drawn (That's the reason for its creation after all)
7. Personal issues outside of the CF and questions regarding votes or points should be discussed with a moderator
8. Have fun and relax!
Rules are subject to change.

Character Creation:
To participate in CF, you will need to start a new thread for a character to be approved by a CF Official/Moderator. The thread should contain some information about your character as well as a short 4 page manga of how your character got into the CF world. Players are allowed to have multiple characters, but it is suggested that you start with one. You will not be allowed to fight two or more of your own characters against each other. Remember that creating a fair and balanced character is more likely to get you approved faster. Some information we will need include:
Name -
Gender -
Height -
Weight -
Age -
Job/Role -
Personality -
Likes -
Dislikes -
Combat Style -
Strengths -
Weaknesses -
Main Weapon -
Special Abilities/Skills -
Dreams/Hopes/Desires -
Brief Biography -

As your character participates in matches, they will gain points. These points will help determine what level their character is at.

There are four levels in the Manga Raiders Character Fight:
Novice - 0 to 299 points
Normal - 300 to 999 points (should take roughly 3 CF fights to reach)
Hero - 1000 to 3999 points (around 10 months to reach)
Epic - 4000+ points (3 years) Special Ability
Items can be bought from the CF Official Shop. CF Officials and Moderators will keep track of the points that characters have to spend and how many experience points the characters have in the Official CF Characters thread.

Getting Started:
Character Fight matches will be decided and the threads will be created by the CF Officials and Moderators. This first post will contain the Situation, Bonus Challenges for more points, Restrictions, Turn Counts, and Time Limits. Players will then post a link to their character's profile in that thread, agree on terms of the CF, and then start drawing their Character Fight manga.

A CF World will be created in a table-top RPG style similar to Dungeons and Dragons where places and NPCs exist. More details will be explained later.

Winning a CF and Earning Points:
After the time limit for a CF has been reached and the final turn has been taken, all members of Manga Raiders are allowed to critique and give scores for the Character Fight. They would award points for Art (characters and background), Style (layout and small details), and Creativity (story and fairness in the fight) with a maximum of 10 points in each category. Voters must also include critiques as to why they gave each score for the categories. A high score would be Art 10, Style 10, Creativity 10 for a composite score of 30. The winner will be decided by whoever has the highest average composite score from all votes. The CF officials will then gather the average composite score, divide it be 3 for each of the categories, and multiply it by 10 to get a number between 1 and 100 for the total of points earned. Additional points can be awarded if the player completed the bonus challenges possibly giving a score greater than 100. These points will then be added to the character's Profile as Experience and MR Gold to buy items and abilities.

Abilities:
I have decided to allow free use of abilities. Just try not to make your character too powerful. It's alright to have a lot of spells but keep the CF matches evenly matched for players of the same level.

Hmmm... I chose some abilities myself, so should I just.. You know... "unlearn" some of them?  :laughing11:
Work in progress: Everything.
Alternative title: Nothing.

You don't need to unlearn anything yet. We're still working on the abilities system so we don't have a set criteria for what is allowed in CF character entrees. Once we figure out a balanced abilities system, the CF Officials will contact you to determine whether or not your character qualifies for CF.

A few changes to the rules and abilities have been decided upon.
-New Rule #3
-Players of the same level should be roughly evenly matched.
-You are allowed to have all the abilities you want but they're only as powerful as the user. If a novice summons a creature, that creature will not be stronger than a novice character. This goes with the new rule where players are evenly matched. What this means is that a Normal level character will usually defeat a Novice character that doesn't have support and that a Hero level character will always defeat novice level characters.
