Eh...how do i draw characters and maximize likeness?

Do i rely on character sheet?
If so, how do you make character look precisely from one angle to another?

I'd know projection stuff in math for precision but...

there's just alot of good angles, even if not precise so... how?

use sculpts?

if you are drawing someone elses character then it helps to have references from multiple angles, so a character sheet is very useful. eventually you will get used to drawing the same character I would have thought.
Even for drawing your own character, having a reference sheet is very handy so you dont forget details and get the look right each time.

hmmmmm it's hard to say. Really you shouldn't need more than a profile,3/4 view and front/back facing references I would think.
Being able to draw difficult angles comes from experience and you should be able to draw it naturally when you get to that stage. Try taking photos of your own face at different angles to see how the features change, and then apply those changes to any other face to draw it at that angle.

ok, that's very molding sculpting like tech. thanks...

gonna keep this trade secrets lol so everyone can do the painful clay stuff and get shouted until they tattoo themselves and get killed by police and reborn

sorry i mean....

what about fine details like eye?

how do you get the eye correct?

there's alot of basic shape...
do you rely on front or side or profile sheets to do that?

same again - you get used to how the eye looks in real life at lots of different angles, and then you can start to imagine how the profile/front eyes on the character sheet(profile/front) will change for different angles.

just try copying your favourite artists work and trying to draw it really similar.
or copy photos of things that you would like to draw.
then you will gain experience and skill.

what is this? drawing RPG?
level and experience?? lol

can u share some tricks? im abit neurotic when the drawing doesnt come out like what i want especially in various angles.

i feel the references rather hard to use these days. even copying artists doesnt feel natural.

things like, the shape of the eyebrow...the distance of the eyelid...the width of the cheek

stuffs like that....
assuring precision while remaining, procedurally correct and efficient...
idk.

i mean...especially when i have like.... hundreds of favorite face i like to draw for the fun of it...

do i have to have hundreds of angles times hundreds of faces of references?
i mean, sure, if it helps.

i wonder if there's a cheaper alternative

There's not going to be one tool for every pose, angle, or expression. And if there were it would be horribly dull as there would be no room for style or exaggeration, which are crucial. Over time, artists develop a "visual vocabulary" and memory of how things move in relation to each other. This part typically never stops changing and it can take years to tackle the basics unless you are a very very diligent person when it comes to research and practice.

I'd start with finding some how-to guides on whatever aspect of art you want to focus on first. There's plenty out there on tackling different angles and expressions for example.

That’s something that’ll take a bit of practice. Best to dive right in. Worrying about problems you’ll hit later and never starting isn’t going to help you much. If I remember I’ll try to find some tutorials/ examples for you over the weekend. For now I need to get some sleep.
