First one is great, the lines are sharp and the colours are nice.
The others do seem a little rougher but any sketch or idea has the basis for greatness, it's just channeling that idea to get it to be a finished piece and not an unfinished work in progress.
Nice details on the clothing on the third one.

I can understand that not having space makes it hard to store your artworks. I personally don't throw anything away, but I have enough space that I can keep it all :P
btw it might help idk but I use a ring binder, and I punch holes in all my pages of drawings, so they are all in one big binder. So it's not lots of loose paper everywhere.

And thank you @Suuper-san, but I don't like having holes in my papers, so I got a folder which can stick them in between the clip without any holes. As I progressed my drawings, I threw like the really bad stuff away and only keep the ones you see and some that can be salvaged for ideas. Some time in the future I will scan them and edit them on my tablet. I really enjoy this website, it's fun here, so far everybody were so nice

20 layers sounds normal enough. I generally use less but I have a lot of practice at what to put in which layer :P
and everyone works differently anyway, so if 20 layers works for you then it doesn't matter what anyone else does haha
Yes having holes in your paper is one of the few issues with it, I just got used to it eventually. Ahhh yes they do make those that just hold it in place. awesome.

Thank you ^^ yea this character is for another story, like I posted around 3 different characters (except the paper ones) for 3 different stories. For me it is a bit messy and stuffing if I have to concentrate on one story and setting only. Like, if I get new ideas but it does not work with a setting or some characters and want to make the plot still work I usually go to another story and try to implement it somewhere else, where the plot can actually work and may even enhance the story or the bigger plot.
You should not look into my head, it is so messy with so many stories, wonderlands and mashed potatoes... hmm, yummy... where were I oh yea.
My story folder on my desktop has like 5 different parts with different worlds.
This character here, Vayn Nakata is from my Yu-Gi-Oh! Story. More of him if you want to read his little arc, down below.

As for your question; my way of creating a character is firstly the setting, then I imagine some characters and only then I go to the drawing board. I normally do not create characters without input, so every character that I am going to upload here is already bound to a story.

little Story Arc;
Vayn Nakata, best friend of the protagonist but also his rival. Vayn is very shy and do not really want to compete in competetive duels. But in a tournament of 3v3 in schools, one of the protagonists is injured in training so he has to fill in, the main hero wins, second protagonist goes in a draw so it has to be Vayn to do the job, very nervous, he got beaten to his knees. As the "rival" Yugioh destiny comes, the surroundings get darker and he gets a "new" but same deck, with his draw, he turns the tide, summons a beast of a monster and best the opponent making everyone in the area look at him in fear. This made him even more anxious, that he ran off.
Like I said, if I decide to I will upload some stories but except for the Star Wars story, they are written in german. I'd literally have to translate them with brain and not copy paste them through google translator xD
And I'd do it, but I want to finish them first or get to a stage worth translating.

like all say, practice makes someone better and when I see back at the other 2 variants, I can clearly see me getting better.

Hmm... Backgrounds are tricky business. I am no expert, but I guess it depends on what you want to accomplish. What you have in this last drawing works perfectly well for a sort of portrait style where you aren't going for a specific scene. Even with the basic gradient you set up I get the image of her standing in front of some greenery (like a hedge) on a sunny day. An impression like that is just fine when the focus is totally on the character.

For scene setting, it gets much harder. You have to be good at not only drawing the background, but inserting the characters into them. Try your hand at still life. Reference people standing in front of locations. The same rules apply in artwork as they do a photograph. But if your backgrounds and character art aren't on the same level of "skill", you could end up with a juxtaposition that pulls a person out of the experience.

Also, I had like a thought for the scenery/background, although not trying to kill the picture with too much detail, like you said. It's simple and easy.

She (in my Story I write) is the daughter of a heavens God who should more likely be a god of the underworld.
In this picture, she's watching up to her father, while her much stronger, darker power is preparing her, from the lower part of the picture, for a fight between them, which she has to win.

That was also my attempt with her expression; uncomfortable with the current situation.

well done on using your time wisely! (what better way than on art )
I'm useless at backgrounds so I can't help there, but you can do several different things with backgrounds, like a scenery/sky far away shot, or something like being in a room and actually sitting the character on a chair or something. Illustrations look a lot better when the character is interacting with stuff, they feel more real.
Otherwise drawing a background is very similar to drawing a character, concept>guidelines>sketch>ink>colour. The more you practice, the first 2 steps will become a lot better. try copying artists whose style you like and just copy the background as a starting point. knowing what art you want to produce will help you to focus your studies.
