Secure connection for MR forum
Nomena :):
Dear all,
Is it possible to have a secure connection for MR forum? for one year to start with
If Yes, then
(1) how much would it cost?
(2) how about we chip in for it? I mean those who can of course. I'd be happy to pay for it all if it's not too expensive, but it would be nice if others want to also contribute.
cheers,
Nomena
Operative13:
For what it's worth, there's not much reason to have https other than that extra security knowing your internet traffic isn't getting routed through some snooper looking at your data. Those types of connections are typically reserved for places that exchange highly sensitive information, like your banks or emails for example.
Unless you're actively exchanging highly sensitive information on MR, there shouldn't be much to worry about. Still, it's always good to know that little green lock is around. Saves you the trouble of blissfully clicking that virus link. ;)

yes exactly, it's probably not very relevant to our type of activities but still, it is reassuring to see that green lock :D
From another perspective, I think it would also make MR forum look more professional ;) I tried to make my own website and blog but I have realized the high amount of work that these things require. So I think I'd rather contribute to that which already exists and that which I already use :D
Suuper-san:
I have been thinking this for quite a while now, but since as you say it's not sensitive data on here I figured it wasn't worth bringing up. It would be nice to have it nonetheless though, what with the constant "Not secure" message from chrome it always bugs me haha
It would certainly make it feel that bit more professional, true.
I think the forum has a separate board for suggestions/improvements and the like. I can never find it half the time though haha.
Coryn:
It would be neat, but I question whether or not it would even be possible to implement. MR is an old site after all. We're built using a standard design, so there isn't as much flexibility in the coding as a lot of people have wished for over the years. But it certainly would be a question worth asking Hasith, just to know if it's possible
This though, is why I always use a VPN.
