[Volume 1 Post and Introduction]

(Quick Note: In case you haven't seen on the old thread, we have decided to do a mini hard reset on the series.  We all agreed that the pacing was off, and the development could be much better, so instead of digging ourselves into a hole, we have completely redone all of the chapters! *Dear god have mercy on my fingers, they have worked so hard*  If you have seen the old scripts, please give these new ones a read! The characters are the same, but I think you'll enjoy this new reworked story!)
- Nathan L.

*Old Intro*
Hey everyone! My names Nathan L. and I'm the author behind Dragon Universe, my current manga project. My team of artists and I have been working diligently for the past few years to start this series up, so hopefully you all enjoy it!

A few notes you should keep in mind before you read:

1. The scripts posted here are bit unprofessional, and I realize that. They are written both like a script and with notes all over. I was going to clean it up, but I figured I'd keep it as is. I've found that using this format helps the artists understand more about how to draw the pages, so I thought I'd show you all the full process of how we get that done to help out any future mangaka, if that makes any sense :P. (as a side note, I have removed anything that might spoil later plot points, but besides that most of my work is there. By spoil, I mean anything the reader is not intended to know about while reading the finished product, none of the story was altered, just side notes.)

2. We have tons of artwork and pages done for the manga [ THOSE PAGES ARE NOW OLD AND NON CANON :D], If your interested in our work, and are curious what our characters look and interact like, please feel free to look us up on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Dragon-Universe-171809216719052/?ref=bookmarks
Please note that most of our pages are not there, we are waiting until we officially release the manga to show off our hard work to the public! That being said, all of our character designs and concept art is there, which there are a ton of.

3. All comments and criticism is greatly appreciated. there's no point in writing this story if no one enjoys it! We want to make this a great experience, so any feedback you have, please leave so we can review it. Thanks in advance!

Chapter 1 "Rewrite"

Spoiler

Chapter 1 “DREAM” Start

(The chapter opens on a little girl sitting in a field of flowers. The art style resembles that of a little kid coloring with crayons. The little girl is resembling a younger Yuki. Yuki is looking around the field, picking up flowers as she goes. After a few panels of her picking flowers, a grey fog starts to creep up from behind her. Once it moves past her face, she slowly turns around. As she's turning around I believe three small panels in a row with an intensifying light will work, as her expression changes to show disbelief. Once she's fully turned around, a whole page should be dedicated to her standing, facing a mansion that is up in horrifying flames. Yuki should seem small compared to the mansion and flames. The next panel should show the flames in her eyes, and with a close up of her eyes reveal a figure standing in the flames. The view should flip to her perspective, slowly zooming into a sinister looking figure (Make sure he has distorted looking, spiky hair. He should also have something resembling a chain coming from his pocket attaching to his waist) facing sideways, his hand facing upwards and out stretched. Once he is in close enough view, show him turning his head only towards Yuki, pulling his hand a bit closer to himself. Then, he smiles wickedly with two, distinctive red eyes shining directly at the reader and Yuki, clenching his hand into a fist, flames bursting out from inside the fist. His head should also be slightly tilted.)

Chapter 1 “DREAM” End

Real Chapter 1 “Rewrite” Start

(The chapter opens up on Yuki slowly opening her good eye [Her bad one isn’t shown until she's putting on her eyepatch, and when it's shown it's closed.] She rubs her bad eye with her arm, still lying down. She seems to have woken up in a cold sweat, and her breathing is off. Eventually, she pulls herself out of her disheveled bed, and makes her way over to her mirror, the reflection showing herself with a long White T shirt and black shorts on. She sighs, and speaks to herself as she puts her eye patch on.)

(She then goes about her daily routine. The next few scenes show her brushing her teeth, brushing her messy hair, making a coffee in a huge kitchen, and sitting down, sipping the coffee. As this goes on, it should become clear that she happens to be the only one in the mansion, show long, empty halls as she walks by, and empty rooms, with her sticking out. By the next time we see her, she switched out her shorts for casual, comfy jogging pants. She drags herself to the front door of her mansion.)

Yuki: (Guess I should pass the time.)

(She stretches, and walks out to her front yard.)

Yuki: It’s a bit early, but I guess I could get some practice in.

(Yuki arrives to her front yard, which is neatly kept, and walks over to a few logs by the path, a good few feet from the house as to not damage it.)

Yuki: Alright, lets see here…
(Yuki picks up a wooden training sword, which seems worn, and starts to swing it around a bit to warm up.)

Yuki: Yesterday I was able to snap one of these in five swings, so I guess I should go for four.

(Yuki takes her free hand, and picks up a log. She then whips it into the air, and patiently waits for it to fall. Right before it hits the ground, as it passes by Yuki’s face, she swings at the log with her wooden sword. The collision makes a loud thud, and the log flies forward a bit, scraping against the ground. A huge dent can be seen in the log, about ? of the way in.)

Yuki: Alright, lets try again.

(Yuki walks over to pick it up, and it is assumed she continues to train. The scene switches to deeper into the woods surrounding her mansion, and a shot of a few people in cloaks walking down a path can be seen. There are four in total, one of which is Hitachi, which is evident by his sword tied to his back. One of the thugs (Thug 3), is noticeable much older, the others seem to be young adults and in Hitachi’s case, a teenager. The four people all have their hoods up, and are walking in a pack. Eventually, the sound of Yuki smacking the logs can be heard by the group.)

[Note to artist: Feel free to design the other three thugs in any manner you wish.]

Thug 1: Did ya guys hear that?

Thug 2: Yeah. Maybe someones come to deliver us some damn food.

(The three laugh, while Hitachi keeps to himself.)

Thug 1: Let’s check it out.

(Thug 1 takes out a small pocket knife, and from his palm a streak of poison is created, wrapping around the blade. The title card for Talents and names appears, and lists this man’s talent as “Talent: Poison Produce”. The other three follow him and they stop right before moving into the clearing of Yuki’s mansion. They see Yuki training, and they seem dumbfounded.)

Thug 2: Whoa. I didn’t know something like this existed way out here.

Thug 3: It’s an odd place to call home… though I think we can work it out.

(The three thugs eye each other with vicious intend.)

(Hitachi is eyeing Yuki, who is now sitting on one of the logs and taking a break.)

Thug 2: Well, looks like we found our place to laylow. Bout time, Huh?

Thug 1: Yeah, I’m getting pumped up just thinking about it!

(Hitachi looks worryingly at the ground.)

Hitachi: What do we do about the girl?

(Thug 3 pushes Hitachi back, with enough force to knock him on his ass.)

Thug 3: You can’t hesitate in this kinda world, kid. This here is a golden chance to finally settle down, and your gonna blow it because you don’t want to hurt some girl?

(Hitachi slouches down, in embarrassment, as the three exit the woods and walk towards Yuki, menacingly. Yuki hears a noise behind her, and before she can turn around, the knife from early is pinned against her throat, she is in a choke hold with Thug 1.)

Thug 1: Don’t ya dare scream, kid. Wouldn’t want to hurt ya!

(The other two thugs laugh, and walk towards the house, as Yuki is mortified. As they walk towards the house, Yuki bites Thug 1’s hand, and runs over to her wooden sword and points it towards them.)

Yuki: W-what do you people want!? Leave me alone!

Thug 1: You little-

(Thug 1 rushes towards Yuki, and slashes at her. Yuki stumbles a bit as she moves out of the way, and she is pushed down to the ground by Thug 2, whose Talent is revealed to be a sort of clay. The Talent panel reads “Talent: Clay Produce”. She is then stuck to the ground, unable to move.)

Yuki: No- Let me go!

Thug 1: Hehe, shoulda played nice, ya little *censored*, you woulda last much longer.

(A scene is shown from a similar path from the one earlier in the woods, a shot of Bryan, his face covered by the shadows of the trees, is shown. He is walking with some sort of device in his right hand, which is outstretched in front of him like a compass. During this scene, Bryan’s face isn’t revealed.)

Bryan: They couldn’t have gone far, these guys don’t know when to quit.

(The light on the device changes, and Bryan seems to be intrigued.)

Bryan: Hey, they aren't far at all! Alright, time to take them down! Let’s see, there are three of them… so that would be about 40 points?

(Bryan continues to walk as he stares down at his device. The scene switches to Hitachi watching from the woods, as Thugs 1 and 2 kick and mock Yuki as she’s stuck to the ground. Thug 3 is now at the front door or the mansion.)

Thug 3: Now, lets see. Hope I don’t need a damn key or anything.

(Despite the torture, Yuki turns to Thug 3 and screams helplessly.)

Yuki: You, don’t you dare touch it!

Thug 3: Sorry girl, but I think you mean it’s ours.

(Thug 3 laughs as he enters the house, and Yuki squirms around frantically, trying to break out of the clay holding her down.)

Yuki: Nooo-! You guys can’t go in there! Who even are you people?!

(Hitachi watches from the woods as the three thugs torment Yuki, and he thinks to himself silently.)

(Hitachi reaches for the sword on his back, and slowly emerges from the woods. He walks past Yuki and the thugs, and enters the house.)

Thug 1: Hey, Tachi grew some balls!

Thug 2: Bout time. Hey, looks like we got to shut this kid up. Last thing we need is-

(Suddenly, from the woods, Bryan jumps out, in a full sprint, and a dumb grin on his face.)

Bryan: Hey you! What do you think your doing?!

(The two thugs seem more irritated than intimidated.)

Thug 2: Damn, not this stupid kid again…

(Bryan is finally completely revealed, rushing out into the clearing. His face is covered in bandages, and his jacket is a bit torn. Hitachi turns around before entering the house, and he seems dumbfounded.)

Hitachi: Who… the hell is that?

(A quick flashback shows the three thugs walking away from a beaten, defeated Bryan, who is slouched against a tree. Hitachi, not fully aware of the situation, continues to walk in after Thug 3.)

Bryan: Alright, who’s ready for some payback?

(Thug 2 whips his hand outward and attempts to shoot him down with his clay, but Bryan dodges it and manages to run in close. He gets one clean punch in on the thug’s arm before he gets pushed away by the thug’s free hand.)

Thug 2: Damn brat!

Bryan: That was for yesterday, ya damn jerk!

(Yuki is at a loss for words, and then suddenly, as the Thug is hit, the clay around her softens up, and she’s able to escape. She stands up, and backs away a bit. Thug 1 turns to her, his knife dripping with poison.)

Thug 1: Oh, how cute. You didn't plan on runnin’ , did ya?

(Yuki starts to run, but the Thug follows suit. Before he can grab her, she bends down and grasps the wooden sword she dropped. She whips around, smacking the thug in the jaw with the sword, and gets into battle stance.)

Yuki: I don’t know who you guys are…but you messed with the wrong girl.

Thug 1: (Damn, this ain’t gonna be easy, then?)

(Near by, closer to the house, Bryan is dodging and weaving blasts of clay. Thug 2 is getting visibly annoyed.)

Thug 2: Stand still, god dammit! You move around like a goddamn cockroach!

(Bryan dodges one more shot, and then tucks himself in, rushing towards the thug. He lands a punch to the thug’s gut, but this causes the blast the thug was currently charging to go wild, and it flys past Bryan, smacking into one of the mansion’s walls, leaving a good chunk of it ruined. Yuki looks away from her fight for a second and seems mortified.)

Yuki: H- Hey! Stop it!

Bryan: Crap! Sorry, miss! I didn’t-

(Thug 2 punches Bryan on the side of his face, making Bryan stop speaking and stumble back.)

Thug 2: Look what ya made me do! How are we going to live here with something like that!? I’ma make you pay, kid!

Bryan: Wha-!

(Thug 2 starts to rapid fire shots towards Bryan, and a lot of stray blasts are smacking into the mansion, causing even more damage.)

Yuki: My House!

(Yuki starts to rush over, but Thug 1 blocks her path.)

Thug 1: Don’t you think you should be more concerned about your own life!

(Thug 1 thrusts towards her, but Yuki skillfully, and seemingly out of character, is able to smack the knife out of the thug’s hand with her wooden sword, and then smacks his face with the handle, knocking him down. She then proceeds to walk over to Bryan and Thug 2, furious.)

Thug 2: Damn, that chick ain’t playin’ around…
Bryan: Again, I’m so sorry about th-

(As the three interact, they are all suddenly caught off guard by Thug 3, who is then thursted out of the second story, through a window. He lands on his back, coughs in pain, and then knocks out. Hitachi is then visible from the window.)

Hitachi: Sorry… but I’m not really comfortable with taking something like this from someone.

(Hitachi looks down at the other three, and then notices the damage to the house.)

Hitachi: Whoa, what the hell?! Why would you destroy the place if you wanted to live here!?

(Thug 2 is now extremely pissed. He aims at Hitachi with his hand.)

Thug 2: Damn traitor! Get your ass down here!

(Thug 2 then proceeds to rapid fire at the second floor, causing Hitachi to stumble back into the house to dodge the onslaught, but this leads to a lot of damage to the top layer of the house.)

Yuki: You...

(Yuki stomps over to Thug 2, who is still blasting, and attempts to grab him. He then changes his aim to her, but before she gets hit, Bryan steps in the way and starts to tank the blasts.)

Bryan: Get out of here miss, this guy is too dangerous for a civilian!

(Yuki starts to back up.)

Yuki: Who even are you, kid?

(Bryan then cockilly smiles, turn to her as he takes the hits, and speaks.)

Bryan: I’m a future Dragon University Student, Bryan! Nice to meet ya!

(From the top floor, Hitachi’s sword is whipped from the top floor at thug 2, and as Thug 2 is distracted, the sword nails him in the side, knocking him out as well.)

Bryan: Aw, hey! I wanted to beat him...

(Hitachi leans out of one of the broken windows, exhausted.)

Hitachi: A “Thank You” would be nice…

(An hour or two seems to pass. The thugs are now tied up to a tree nearby, unconscious, and Hitachi, Bryan, and Yuki are discussing the recent event. Yuki is slouched down on her steps, seemingly depressed about her current situation. Hitachi has his hood down, his sword lodged into the ground near him, and is leaning against one of the pillars near Yuki’s mansion. Bryan is standing in front of Yuki and Hitachi, upset at the damage he caused.)

Bryan: I’m so sorry about that miss! I wasn’t thinking at all, man…  I’m so ashamed of myself…

Hitachi: Well, at least you were here to help out. I think we coulda managed, but the damage could have been much worse.

(Yuki is still hunched over, silently contemplating the situation, saddened by her destroyed mess of a house.)

Bryan: Well, I hope you guys get it figured out.

(Bryan changes to a happy go lucky mood, and starts to walk over to the thugs.)

Bryan: I’m just glad I finally caught these three, they’ve been running a muck for weeks now! I can’t wait to get home and show-

(Yuki suddenly gets up as he speaks, and places her hand on his shoulder, menacingly. Bryan shudders, and slowly turns his head.)

Bryan: U- Um… can I help you, miss?

Yuki: One million.

Bryan: Excuse me?

Yuki: You owe me one million in repairs.

(Bryan’s jaw drops, and the color fades from his face.)

Bryan: Wh- what?! I don’t have that kind of money!

(Yuki turns coldly to Hitachi.)

Yuki: And you. You owe half of that. Five hundred thousand.

Hitachi: … For a window?

(The two boys seem scared of Yuki, as she turns back to Bryan.)

Yuki: You said you don’t have that kind of money?

(Her grip tightens, and Bryan panics and yelps.)

Bryan: H- Hey! Calm down miss! I’ll pay you back, I promise!

Yuki: And how do you suppose you’ll do that?

Bryan: I’ll earn the money! I’ll work for it, now please let go, your hurting me!

(Yuki’s grip lessens slightly, but she's still holding on.)

Bryan: You… your still holding onto me…

Yuki: I’m not giving you the chance to run away. Both of you are going inside. Right now.

(Hitachi sighs, and the three walk into what's left of the apartment. The sun shines through the trees, as the chapter closes with an ominous shot of Yuki’s basement { A few panels leading the reader down a hall or two, and down the stairs} with her sword, Korace, placed over an empty, dusty fireplace.)

Chapter 2 "Departing"

Spoiler

Chapter 2 “Departing” Start

(The chapter opens with the view of a plate of food, freshly prepared, but certainly not full, sitting on the table, in front of Bryan. They three are located in Yuki’s dining room, Yuki herself cleaning up some of the debris, and the other two sitting at the table. Bryan seems hesitant to eat, and as he looks over, he sees Hitachi dig in without hesitation.)

Bryan: Whoa…

Hitachi: [Food in his mouth, eating quickly] What?

Bryan: How can you eat that without worrying if she poisoned it or something?

Hitachi: Eh, food is food. I haven't eaten this good in a few weeks.

Bryan: Yeah, but this girl is kinda crazy…

(Yuki looks back as she was dusting, she is irritated.)

Yuki: I can hear you, jerk.

(Bryan sighs, and starts to eat a bit. As he does, Bryan places his device on the table, and Hitachi notices it.)

Bryan: Hey, why are you even feeding us, anyways? I thought you were going to grill us on how and when you wanted your money, or something like that…

Yuki: Oh, don’t worry. There will be plenty of time for that.

(Bryan shudders.)

Yuki: … I’m not heartless though. You two did save me, so the least I can do is give you a good meal.

(Hitachi bows politely, still eating.)

Bryan: Oh, alright. Well, your welcome miss!

(Bryan starts to rapidly gobble down the food, until he is interrupted by Yuki.)

Yuki: Another ten dollars for the food.

(Bryan can then be seen visablly choking. After this small gag, and after they finish eating, the two are still sitting at the table, as Yuki joins them.)

Yuki: Where the hell did you two even come from anyways?

Bryan: What do ya mean, miss?

Yuki: You do realise I live in the middle of nowhere, right? The closest village is at least 10 or 15 miles out, getting out here by complete chance is kind of hard to believe.

(Bryan sits back and contemplates the question a bit.)

Bryan: Well, I just sort of followed my assignment, and it led me here. I’ve tried hunting down those thugs for awhile now, but I just couldn’t manage to handle all of them…

(Something seems to click in Bryan’s head, and he slams both hands down onto the table, startling Yuki and Hitachi.)

Yuki: Whoa, calm down! Break the table and that’s another 15 do-

Bryan: Miss, I think I have a way to pay you back!

(Yuki seems surprised, and listens.)

Bryan: If we form a rookie party, we can earn money for turning in crooks!

(The room is silent for a few seconds, and then Yuki and Hitachi break the silence in unison.)

Yuki and Hitachi: What?

Bryan: Yeah, if we join together, I think we can eventually pay off our debt within the year! I think it’s a good idea, anyways!

Hitachi: Um… Ok, that’s cool and all, but what is a “Rookie Party”?

(Yuki is also in the shot, thinking/saying the following line under her breath.)

Yuki: (Your the ones in debt… I don’t owe anything.)

Bryan: What? You don’t know what a Rookie Party is? Haven’t you heard of Dragon University?

(Both Hitachi and Yuki shake their heads “no”.)

Bryan: Huh!? How is that even possible!? It’s the number one school for teaching people how to use their Talents, like, for good things and not bad things.

Yuki: Ok, but why would I care?

(Bryan freezes in place, being completely shot down, despite his excitement.)

Hitachi: I’ve heard about it back home, but we don’t really have anything like that out there.

Yuki: Back home?

Hitachi: I used to live in Arcadia for sometime, but I’ve decided to branch out a bit, see the world.

Yuki: Oh, the ice country? How was it?

Hitachi: Well, it’s a lot colder than here, but I was born there, so I was used to it.

(Bryan looks lost for words, staring at the other two.)

Bryan: (They… are completely ignoring me…)

Bryan: Alright, I guess I’ll give you a crash course on how this all works, maybe then you’ll see why I’m so brilliant for coming up with the idea!

Yuki: I don’t think you and “brilliant” really belong together, but sure, go on.

Bryan: (Why is she so mean?!)

(Bryan clears his throat, and then as he explains the following, images of generic students and officers can be seen behind him, for the reader.)

Bryan: Well, as you guys saw out there, people sometimes choose to use their Talents for bad things.

Bryan: Dragon University is dedicated to make sure that people use their Talents for good, and it wants to promote the act of helping others out in the process. Think of it as teaching people how to be a superhero!

Bryan: But to even get into the University, you need to prove yourself. The classes there are rigorous, and the dropout rate is almost half as many kids that get into the school. It’s honestly kind of scary to think about…

Bryan: That’s why you need to show you’ve got what it takes before you can get admitted in.  What people usually do is form small Rookie Parties, typically between three to five people to a party, and take on smaller assignments.

Bryan: These assignments can be anything from doing someone's shopping, to taking on some big bad thugs, like we just did. Usually people will place a request for an assignment into their C.R.O.W, and nearby rookies will receive the call.

(Yuki interrupts Bryan.)

Yuki: Hey, slow down, your saying a whole lot, man…

Hitachi: So can just about anyone take on these odd jobs?

Bryan: Yup! You earn points based on the a few factors, the program considers the person making the request, the request’s urgency, and its threat level. If you earn enough points, eventually you can trade them in for compensation. Stuff like food, money, clothing, the essentials, really. Some people like to make a living off of just being a rookie alone. I guess you’d call veterans to the system Bounty Hunters.

Hitachi: I’m assuming if you stand out enough, the school will scout you, or something like that?

Bryan: Yeah, basically. The system has been around for a few years now, but It’s worked out well. Plus…

(Bryan puts his arm on the back of his neck, and blushes a bit.)

Bryan: I really want to become a student someday.

(Yuki seems unimpressed.)

Yuki: Really? I couldn’t tell… (This kid talks too much…)

(Bryan starts to derail off into a tangent.)

Bryan: Anywho, yeah, it’s a good way to earn some quick cash, and I hear that there are some special classes you can buy your way into. Traveling is easier too, they pay for you to stay overnight in places where your working on longer assignments, and the places you get to go to are incredible! Once I heard that they sent an entire class to-

(Yuki throws a spoon at Bryan’s forehead to shut him up.)

Yuki: You said “Quick Cash”?
(Bryan stops, and nods.)

Yuki: That’s all I needed to hear.

(Yuki gets up, and stretches a bit.)

Yuki: so how does this thing work?

Bryan: Ow… For a rookie team, you need at least three members before you can be considered official.

Yuki: Then I guess I can fill in for one slot, but don’t expect me to do any serious work, I’m only going to keep tabs on you.

(Bryan perks up.)

Bryan: Really! Awesome!

(Bryan turns to Hitachi next, and starts to question him about the team.)

Bryan: And you?

Hitachi: Huh?

Bryan: You should help out too! You said you were trying to see the world, right? Well this is the perfect way! You can help me do some work, and adventure at the same time!

(Hitachi ponders it for a bit, and then looks a little annoyed.)

Hitachi: Yeah but… I don’t really know. I just want to find a place to stay first, really.

Bryan: Why would you need a place to stay if you could stay wherever you wanted? Didn’t you hear me say they pay for your travel costs and give you places to spend the night?

Hitachi: Oh, did you say something like that? Sorry, no offense, but I kind of tuned out midway.

(Bryan, again, is shot down.)

Bryan: You guys are jerks…

Hitachi: I guess I can go along for now then. I do really need a permanent place to stay though.

(Hitachi looks around the room, and then looks over at Yuki.)

Hitachi: Hows about this. I’ll double my debt, but in exchange, when we can fix your home, you have to let me live here with you.

(Yuki and Bryan look a bit surprised.)

Yuki: What? Wouldn’t that be kind of awkward…? Though…

(Yuki turns to ponder.)

Yuki: That’s a lot of money…

Bryan: Is that all you care about…?

Hitachi: Then it’s settled.

(Hitachi gets up, and extends his hand to the other two. The others get up, and all meet in the middle of the room.)

Hitachi: My name is Hitachi Justice. I’m just a wanderer, so there’s not much else I can really say.

Yuki: My name’s Yuki Versai. I’m kind of a shut in, so don’t expect much from me either…

Bryan: And I’m Bryan, Leader of Team Bryan!

(The three place their hands into the middle, and swear to form the team. Yuki and Hitachi are visually annoyed by Bryan.)

Yuki: Team Bryan?

Hitachi: Yeah, no.

Bryan: Aw, was worth a shot…

(The three all part a bit, and get comfortable again.)

Hitachi: So, now what?

Bryan: Well, we need to go and deliver those criminals to the outpost in that Village Yuki was talking about. We should get 30 or 40 points for them, and once we do, we can probably ask around for more work.

Yuki: How much does 30 or 40 points net us in cash?

Bryan: Um… well, lets see…

(Bryan looks visibly distraught.)

Yuki: What is it?

Bryan: Um… to be honest… I’m not really sure.

(Yuki looks annoyed.)

Yuki: You don’t even know how much it pays?

Bryan: Well, up until now, I’ve never actually caught any criminals. To tell you the truth, I’m still pretty new to this stuff as well. I just hang around a lot of people who know what their doing…

(Hitachi sighs, and scratches his head.)

Hitachi: Dumbass… I guess we’ll just have to see when we get there.

Yuki: Well, it’s still early. We should head out soon. I’ve made the trek there a few times, but it’s no walk in the park.

Hitachi: I guess we might not be back here for awhile. Yuki, you should pack everything we might need. I’ll help out. Bryan, go check on the three outside, we should leave within the hour.

Bryan: Huh? Oh, right! Ok, got it!

(Bryan runs outside, and Yuki and Hitachi begin to pack up. They pack two bags, and one suitcase over the course of a few panels, and before they head outside, Yuki pauses.)

Yuki: Hey Hitachi, wait here one sec, I forgot something.

Hitachi: Alright, hurry up though. We don’t want the sun to go down too early on us.

(Yuki proceeds to head down to her basement, where Korace is. She walks over to the fireplace, and gets on her knees, and bows.)

Yuki: Sorry, but I’ll be gone for a bit longer than usual, master.

(The sword seems to glisten through faint sunlight from some cracks made during the fight.)

Yuki: I’ll be back soon.

(Yuki gets up, and begins to walk away, but stops suddenly.)

Korace: I heard what you were discussing. You should bring me with you. This could be dangerous work.

(Yuki doesn't seem to be off putted by the sword, infact, she’s more surprised that it wants to go along.)

Yuki: What? But you said I shouldn’t ever use you unless its an emergency…

Korace: You could have easily lost your life earlier, child. If it hadn’t been for those two, you wouldn’t be here right now. You’ll need to be able to defend yourself, even if that means taking a life.

(Yuki gulps, and walks over to pick Korace off of it’s stand.)

Yuki: Don’t talk too much while your out though, I don’t want to have to explain that you can talk to people all the time.

Korace: Don’t worry, only those that can I deem worthy can hear my voice.

Yuki: Right…

(Suddenly, Hitachi can be heard from the top floor.)

Hitachi: You moron!!!

Yuki: Huh? What’s going on!?

(Yuki takes Korace, her belongings, and runs upstairs. When she arrives, Bryan is bowing on the floor in tears and Hitachi is yelling at him.)

Bryan: I’m so sorry! I didn’t mean it!

Yuki: What’s going on? What happened? Did you actually break something else!?

(Hitachi turns to Yuki slowly, seemingly hesitant to tell her.)

Hitachi: This… this idiot…

(Bryan lifts his head dramatically, tears streaming down his face.)

Bryan: The thugs! I let them get away! I’m so sorry Yuki!

(Yuki, normal at first, slowly realises the situation. As she does, within a few panels, her expression changes from concerned, to surprised, to extremely frustrated. A shot of the outside of the wrecked home can be seen as the sun begins to set. Yuki’s scream can be heard for miles.)

Yuki: What!?!?

Chapter 3 “Teamwork” Start

(The chapter opens on Yuki and Hitachi walking ahead of Bryan, they have already left on their way into the forest. They are following a linear dirt path, the trees and woodland animals around them all admiring the sun set. Hitachi has all of the equipment tied around him, including his sword, carrying it for the group. Yuki just simply has Korace by her side. Yuki and Hitachi seem highly annoyed, as they walk a good few feet in front of Bryan. Bryan seems upset.)

Bryan: Um… guys?

Yuki: Shut up.

Bryan: But… what are we going to do about-

Hitachi: We aren't on speaking terms.

(Bryan holds his arm in embarrassment and shame, and they continue to walk in silence for a bit.)

Bryan: Shouldn’t we be tracking these guys down?

(Yuki stops, Hitachi takes a few more steps and then turns, and Yuki whips around.)

Yuki: For everytime you speak, for every syllable out of your mouth, I will add one thousand to your debt, are we clear!?

(Bryan shuts up, tears forming on his eyes. Yuki Sighs and continues down the path with the others following.)

Yuki: Besides, we already are tracking them down. This path is barely ever used, and there are faint hints that it was recently used. They are heading down this way.

(Hitachi stretches his neck out a bit, and looks over at Yuki.)

Hitachi: Well, they probably won’t be moving all night, I think it’s ok if we stop soon too. Besides, all of this gear is kind of getting heavy, even for me.

Yuki: Right. Let’s give it another hour, then we’ll settle.

(Hitachi seems disappointed and exhausted.)

Hitachi: ( A whole hour…?)

Yuki: By the way, we should probably discuss how we’ll go about this.

Hitachi: You mean how we will catch the thugs?

Yuki: Yeah, We kind of just acted on instinct and adrenaline back at (Turns to face Bryan) what used to be my place.

(Bryan winces.)

Hitachi: Well, first we should go over our tactics. I couldn’t really tell from inside, how do you two go about combat?

(Yuki brings her sword up a bit to draw attention to it.)

Yuki: I fight with my Katana, although I’ve rarely ever had to use it on actual people.

Hitachi: What’s your Talents? Mine is Strength, it’s why I can carry all of this with relative ease. I also fight with a sword, mines a bit heavier than yours though.

(Yuki walks ahead, in silence, staring at her feet.)

Hitachi:...?

Bryan: My Talent is also Strength! Though I prefer to punch people right in the face! Honestly, I prefer it to using any kind of-

(Hitachi nods his head towards Yuki, and Bryan looks over, both are concerned.)

Yuki: I’m… not really sure, to be honest....

(Hitachi and Bryan stop, and Yuki turns to them, a little embarrassed.)

Hitachi: Wait, are you telling me you don’t know what your Talent is?

Bryan: Huh!? How can you not know? Didn’t you go to school?

Yuki: Um… No. Actually, I’ve lived out by myself for a really long time. I only see other people’s Talents in action rarely when I have to go shopping in the village...

Hitachi: Where’s your family? You must have somebody who’s at least raised you.

(Yuki grips Korace, and looks down. She bites her lip.)

Yuki: No… I don’t really have anyone like that.

(Hitachi and Bryan look at each other, and the Bryan sighs.)

Bryan: Well, don’t worry Miss Yuki! You got us now!

(Yuki looks surprised for a second, but then heel turns back to her previous demeanor, though she is blushing through it.)

Yuki: Shut up.

Bryan: Jeez, just trying to be nice…

(The scene changes to night fall, and the three have set up camp on the side of the path, in a small opening in the forest. Hitachi is sitting on a rock, his eyes closed, as if he is contemplating something. Bryan is messing around on his C.R.O.W near a fire they made, and Yuki is polishing Korace on the opposite side of the fire. Hitachi looks over at Yuki as she’s cleaning.)

Hitachi: (I guess it’s because I’m in a similar situation… but… She's definitely lying to us. I find it hard to believe she would have these kinds of social skills if she lived by herself. Not to mention her house.)

(Hitachi closes his eyes, and sighs to himself.)

Hitachi: (I’m not really in a position to judge her though... so I’ll keep it to myself, for now.)

(Yuki looks over at Bryan, who is still messing with his device. She looks curiously, and eventually notices.)

Bryan: Uh… you good?

Yuki: What are you doing?

Bryan: Hm? I’m just checking if there’s any requests posted. We are out in the middle of nowhere, so I’m not surprised that I’m not really finding anything.

(Bryan continues to tap on the screen, and Yuki leans over a bit to look. She clearly is interested in it.)

Yuki: So… is this that Bird thing you were talking about back at my place?

Byran: A… C.R.O.W?

(Bryan tries not to laugh, but bursts out hysterically.)

Bryan: A “Bird thing”? Come on Yuki, everyone knows what a C.R.O.W is!

(Yuki tilts her head, and Hitachi chimes in.)

Hitachi: Actually, I’m just as curious as she is. How do those things work?

(Bryan looks at the two, smiling at first, but then realises they aren't joking.)

Bryan: Oh my god… you guys are serious…

(Yuki seems a bit annoyed.)

Yuki: Just tell us what it is already.

(Bryan looks perplexed, but clears his throat.)

Bryan: Well, this is a C.R.O.W. It’s what rookies and students use to communicate with the school. It’s also how you can keep track of your assignments. Everyone back home has one of these… I guess I’m just not used to people not knowing what it is… my bad…

(Bryan sulks down, feeling bad for how he reacted. Yuki gets closer, and examines the C.R.O.W up close, while it’s still in Bryan’s hand.)

Yuki: So… you can get requests this way? Where would me and Hitachi get one?

Bryan: Huh? Well, you guys can probably buy one at the outpost. People break theirs all the time, so they make sure to keep outposts stocked. As long as you know your information, you can log into your account from any C.R.O.W.

Hitachi: What does C.R.O.W stand for? I noticed that the letters were printed on the back as if it was an abbreviation.

Bryan: Hmm… I think it’s “C”ather, “R”ecruit, “O”rganize, and “W”in?

Yuki: “Gather” is spelt with a “G”, not a “C”...

Hitachi: So you don’t know?

(Bryan smiles a bit, and answers bluntly.)

Bryan: Yeah, I didn’t really pay attention when my friend handed me one. I just got so pumped to actually start taking on requests that I just rushed the exchange so I could get to work.

Hitachi: Whatever, as long as you know how to use it, I don’t really care.

(A shot is shown of the three chatting from a distance. The scene then fades away, and changes to Yuki sleeping, in the middle of the night. She slowly opens her eyes as she hears a faint noise from a distance away. She raises herself up, and looks around. Hitachi is sitting by a tree, asleep, with his sword by his side, his cloak being used as a blanket. Bryan is nowhere to be seen. Yuki rubs her eyes, and looks around for him, but then hears a noise coming from deeper in the forest. She slowly sneaks towards the noise, and, after stopping behind a tree, sees Bryan, his shirt and Bandana off, and he his punching the air, training. His C.R.O.W is lying on a nearby stump, on.)

Yuki: (Whoa… doesn't this kid ever take a break? Maybe I should try and scare him or something.)

(As Yuki makes a movement to move closer, she's hears an unfamiliar voice, and hides again quickly. She then notices the sound is coming from the C.R.O.W.)

???: So what did you call me so late for? I’m a busy man you know…

(Bryan is punching the air, out of breath, but still conversing.)

Bryan: Just wanted to let you know that I may not be home anytime soon. I met some great people today!

???: So you’re going to stay with complete strangers? Works for me, I hate cooking for you anyways, you lazy bum.

(The screen shows a man in a lab coat in a swivel chair, contemplating something as he talks to Bryan. He has a lot of medicine and notes scattered about his office.)

???: Though, I’m curious. What spurred this on? It’s not really like you to stay away from here for so long.

Bryan: I think… I finally found my team.

(The man perks up in curiosity.)

???: Oh? Well, that was sudden, huh?

(The man presses his hand against his stubble, and seems relieved of something.)

???: Bout time… I’m happy for you.

Bryan: Yeah, I figured you would be, Doc. I’ll keep you posted!

???: I’ll be rooting you on. Go show the world your passion. I’ll keep you posted on my research as well.

(The scene now shows the tree Yuki was hiding behind. It is empty, and a few feet away, she is walking away, with a faint, warm smile on her face. After one final wide shot of the forest at night, the scene switches to morning, as they are packing up to hit the path again. Hitachi is cleaning up the fire place as Yuki and Bryan chat.)

Yuki: Just so we’re clear, I still don’t like you.

(Bryan rubs his eyes.)

Bryan: Yuki, I just got up… Really?

Yuki: Yes.

Hitachi: Well, if we are going to be a team, you two need to get along more. If not, we’re just going to trip over ourselves all the time.

Yuki:[Sighing] He’s right. I guess I’ll pretend to like you.

(Yuki smiles towards Bryan, half assed.)

Yuki: How’s this?

Byran: … your like… the worst. You know that?

( Some time passes as the three continue to walk down the road together.)

Yuki: Hey, Hitachi. Can I ask you something?

Hitachi: Sure, anything to break the silence I guess.

Yuki: How did you manage to get mixed up with that group? I know you must have come in with them. It sounded like they knew you.

Bryan: Huh? Hitachi was with those thugs?

Hitachi: Well, they took me in for about a day, said they had some place to sleep at night and I wasn’t really in a position to turn that down.

Bryan: Wait, doesn't that make you a criminal?!

Yuki: He was just trying to get a place to spend the night, Bryan. If everyone who needed a place to sleep was a criminal, that would make the three of us all criminals as well.

(Bryan freezes up, as if the concept finally clicked.)

Bryan: Oh wow, never thought of it like that before!

Hitachi: You actually have thoughts?

(Yuki chuckles a bit, as Bryan yells at Hitachi. As the three chat, a silhouette can be made out from the the forest, watching them.)

Korace: Yuki, to your right…

(Yuki is caught off guard by Korace, and halts suddenly. Hitachi and Bryan do the same, and look at her.)

Hitachi: What is it now? Did you see something?

Yuki: Uh… Yeah, I think there’s something over there we should check out.

(Yuki turns to the right, and the three notice the silhouette, who is now running deep into the forest after being spotted. Bryan freaks out, and Hitachi grips his sword.)

Bryan: Whoa, creepy! Who was that!?

Hitachi: If I head to guess, our target.

(Hitachi starts running after the figure, Yuki and Bryan follow suit close behind. Eventually, they find themselves deep in the forest, looking around for a trail or hint of their stalker.)

Hitachi: *censored*, I lost him… Did you guys see where he went?

Korace: Tell them to check from the top of the trees. If there is a clearing nearby, it’s likely their hideout.

(Yuki looks down at Korace for a second, and then up at Bryan. Hitachi notices.)

Yuki: Try seeing if you can spot anything from that tree Bryan.

(Yuki points up to one of the nearby trees. Bryan nods, and starts to climb his way up there. Hitachi seems to be catching onto something, but doesn't say anything. As Bryan reaches the top, he shouts down to the others.)

Bryan: There’s smoke coming from… it looks like a bit further east from here! I don’t think it’s the village, too small. What do you think?

Hitachi: Well, Yuki?

Yuki: Huh? Well… It’s probably their hideout… or at the very least where they are camped out for now. We should try and scope it out.

Hitachi: Well put. Alright, let’s get going. Keep a low profile. [Hitachi looks over at Bryan as he gets down from the tree] Especially you Bryan, you talk loud.

(Bryan seems annoyed by that remark. The three sneak their way through the bushes and trees, and eventually they are right by the clearing where the three thugs are set up. Thugs 1 and 2 are eating some meat by a small table, while Thug 3 is scavenging through supplies by a tent.)

Yuki: You know, now that I think about it, I’m honestly surprised Bryan knew which direction East was.

(Hitachi tries not to laugh, and motions for Yuki to be quiet. Bryan seems annoyed, but simply sighs. They eavesdrop on the three. Thug 1 is cleaning his knife, and Thug 2 is chowing down.)

Thug 1: So, any words from the higher ups? I just want to get paid already…

Thug 2: [While chewing] They said funds been tight since security round the big city is really buckling down. We’ll have to go there ourselves, or we can wait for them to send a scout.

Thug 1: Ugh, them damn scouts take forever though, we’d starve before then. Man, If I was the head of this gang, I’d make sure there were small little hideouts all around the country, and funnel money that way.

Thug 2: Listen, if you were actually good at comin’ up with stuff, you wouldn’t be stealin’ from some suckers on the street. Shut up and eat already.

Thug 1: Tch.

(The two eat away, and Thug 3 brings out a few bags from the tent.)

Thug 3: The couple we drove out of here wasn’t really packing much. I only found a few valuables in there. Best I found was a small pocket watch.

Thug 1: What do you expect? They were just a couple of hikers, why would they pack more than they need?

Thug 2: Better then nothing I guess, the watch will buy us a few more days, at most.

(The three behind the cover discuss their plan.)

Hitachi: We need to catch them off guard. We don’t want to give them a chance to act.

Yuki: Yeah… Also, they may have something like the C.R.O.W to call back up, so we should make sure to prevent that.

(Bryan looks over at the tent, and sees Thug 3 looking at a picture he found.)

Thug 3: Damn, makes me sick how happy these people are.

Thug 2: Whatcha got there?

Thug 3: Some photo, just junk.

(Thug 3 drops the photo on the ground, and smirks. He then stomps on it with his heel, glass shattering, and ruining the photograph.)

Thug 3: Oops.

(The other thugs laugh, and the picture is revealed to show the couple, a man and women, with a young boy and girl in the middle of the photo. Only Bryan’s lower face is shown, but it’s clear something snapped.)

Hitachi: Alright, we can each take one. I’ll take the older one, as I think my sword can knock him down easier. Bryan can take the man with the knife, and Yuki can take the clay one. If your quick on your feet Yuki, you can dodge or deflect those shots. They don’t come out that quick, so it should be doable.

Yuki: Understood. What should Bryan do about the knife?

Hitachi: Hmmm, Bryan, have you ever fought someone with a weapon like-

(Hitachi stares behind Yuki, mortified. Yuki seems concerned, and turns to see Bryan is nowhere to be found. [ Note to artist - You can draw a dotted outline of where Bryan was, for comedic effect] The two look beyond that, to see Bryan rushing out of the cover, and screaming at the top of his lungs. His tone is different from before. He is much more serious.)

Bryan: I’m going to kick your asses!

(Thugs 1 and 2 jump up from their seats, and Thug 3 drops what he’s carrying. Yuki pulls her hair, and Hitachi smacks his forehead. During the next thought, show a full page of Bryan breaking out of cover, in a grand entrance.)

Yuki and Hitachi : (Bryan, you dumbass!!!)

(Bryan rushes towards Thug 3, and attempts to punch him right in the gut. Thug 3 braces for impact, and guards the attack with one arm, and smacks Bryan away with the other. Thug 3 is much taller and broader then Bryan. Bryan gets up, wipes away a scratch on his cheek from being hit, and attempts the same thing again.)

Thug 3: Damn brat, how haven’t you given up yet!?

(Instead of messing with Bryan this time, Thug 3’s arm transforms into a metal like material, and he strikes down Bryan in a single blow, directly to the top of his head. Bryan loses consciousness for a split second, as it’s clear that his hurt a lot. The Talent panel reads “Talent: Metal Morph.” as Thug 3 stares menacingly at the boy he just struck down. As Bryan falls, the panel reflects the blurry vision Bryan has. His entire head rattles, and his eyes start to fade as he falls. At this point, Yuki and Hitachi leap out, and the other two thugs are caught off guard. Hitachi reaches out completely with his sword, striking Thug 1 in the gut, and sending him flying off of his feet. Yuki unsheathes Korace, and before Thug 2 can shoot any clay, Yuki throws Korace’s sheath at his face. The thug reacts by smacking the sheath away, but as he does, Yuki has gotten too close, and she is able to smack him in the face with the hilt. Unlike with the first time she did this though, Thug 2 regains his footing, and creates a bar of clay. He swings it into Yuki’s stomach like a bat, and she falls to her knees, coughing. Hitachi looks over at Yuki, concerned.)

Hitachi: Crap, Yuki! Hold on, I’ll-

(Hitachi suddenly freezes up as Thug 3 stands over him. Thug 3 picks Hitachi up by his head, with his metal arm, and starts to crush him.)

Thug 3: looks fellas, looks like I caught us a rat!

(Hitachi screams in pain, as shots of Bryan struggling to get up and Yuki regaining her breath are shown. Thug 2 walks over to Yuki, laughing at them while he strolls over.)

Thug 2: You guys are pushing your luck. You only beat us before because we were careless. Sorry, but this is goodbye... for good.

(While Yuki is on her knees, barely breathing, Thug 2 kicks Yuki’s chin with full force, sending her flying a few feet. She lands on her back with a loud thud, and she drops Korace a few feet away. Hitachi struggles helplessly, but he manages to elbow Thug 3 in the nose, and free himself, but he takes a second to grasp his head, now bleeding.)

Hitachi: God dammit… what the hell are we doing!?

(Before the chapter closes out, the final page shows a splitting shot of all six fighters. There are five flashes at the top of the page of Yuki [Gritting her teeth in pain], Bryan [He can’t seem to gain his balance, and can’t seem to see straight], Thug 1 [Preparing his knife], Thug 2 [Still has his leg in the air, smirking cockily], and Thug 3 [Cracking his metal knuckles, his free arm is also mid transformation]. A final panel towards the bottom shows a close up of Hitachi’s face, blood pouring down past his eyes.)

Hitachi: We need to get out *censored* together… and quick!

I would normally follow up the scripts with the artwork for the characters, but they tend to crowd up the forum, so if your interested in their designs, take a peek at our facebook, or just ask!

[ Vol. 1 Post (Continued) ]

Chapter 4 "Paradoxical Team"

Spoiler

Chapter 4 “Paradoxical Team” Start

(The chapter opens with Hitachi breathing heavily, grabbing his blade off of the ground, and hoisting himself up with it. Hitachi is struggling to regain his calm demeanor. Thug 3 is holding his face in pain, his nose is bleeding. Hitachi looks at his current situation. Yuki and Bryan are still downed, and The thugs are closing in on them. Thug 3 is distracted with his own pain.)

Hitachi: (Right…I’m not cut out for this… I wasn’t born to be a fighter... If I were to flee now, in this moment, and ditch these guys, I could get away just fine. Nothing’s stopping me from simply running away. Nothing…)

(Time seems to stand still for Hitachi, the rest of his surroundings seem to fade into white noise. A panel emphasising his glass Hourglass necklace is shown [The hourglass has no special powers, it’s just apart of his design, and character.] Then he has a flashback to forming the team in the back of his mind.)

Hitachi: (I don’t owe these people anything… I don’t owe them…)

(The scene of when Yuki explains the debt plays out in his mind. Hitachi grits his teeth. He looks over at an open pathway, but shakes the thought out of his head.)

(Suddenly, a final flash appears, of an unknown scene. Dedicate a few panels to this. The scene is a musty, prison environment. Empty cells and moist bricks line the walls. Hitachi is on his knees, on the outside looking in. His head is down, and his breath can be seen, signifying where ever he is, it is very cold. His attire is a lot more clean then it is currently, along with a fur coat, and he doesn't have his sword. His fists are clenched shut. He smacks his head against the bars, and a shot of a girl, around his age, but a complete silhouette, can be seen on the inside. Hitachi is trying to holding back tears, but he is clearly choking up. [Note to Artists - You don’t have to show his eyes, just hints that he is about to tear up.] Its then revealed he is holding onto an old, rusty cell key, and as he opens his hands, his palms are shaking. Some faint yelling can be heard far away [Blur out the words “Where is he?! Quick, find him! He could be in danger!”, but make it possible to make out if the reader really wants to.] The girl reaches her hand through the bars, slowly and with a soft, genuine smile, and places her hand atop of Hitachi’s hair, petting him gently.)

Girl: - It’s because your really sweet, Hitachi.

(Hitachi snaps back into reality. His face gives off the same emotions he felt back in the flashback, and in a rush of adrenaline, whips around in a full 360 motion with his sword, with a single hand gripping the handle, yelling at the top of his lungs. Dedicate an entire page to this.)

Hitachi: Dammit!!!!

(Hitachi smacks Thug 3 directly in the stomach. Place emphasis on the impact itself. The force from his swing is so powerful, several ribs can be heard cracking and snapping, and the thug almost immediately coughs up blood. In what seems to be slow motion, Hitachi turns to Yuki and Bryan, and shouts at them. As he speaks, the thug is still flying through the air. Only the world around them is in slow motion, the three of them seem to be really taking the next words to heart.)

Hitachi: I don’t know about you two, but I’ve given up way too much to die here!

(As Hitachi says this, Bryan regains his stupid grin. Bryan punches the dirt, and pumps himself back up.)

Bryan: Heh… Thanks… I needed that, Hitachi.

(Yuki also manages a faint smile while she has her right arm over her eyes. Before she pulls herself up, she speaks to them both.)

Yuki: You know, we make a pretty crappy team. But I think I’m ok with that. As long as you guys pay me interest for my service.

(Yuki pulls herself up all the way to her feet, as Thug 2 is in complete disbelief of the sheer power Hitachi just outputted. He’s frozen in utter fear.)

Thug 2: What the hell!? Whoa, these kid are trying to kill us! I- I can’t go out like this…!

(Thug 2 seems to be seriously contemplating running for his life. Thug 1, who had been knocked away earlier, storms past Thug 2 towards Yuki. He pushes Thug 2 behind him as he stomps towards her.)

Thug 1: I’m not losing my payday because of some dumbass kids. I’ll kill each of them with my bare hands if I have to.

(Thug 1 breaks into a full sprint, rushing at Yuki in full force, swinging his Knife wildly, the poison flying around as he swings. Before he reaches Yuki, Bryan smashes into the thug with his shoulder, pushing him to the ground. As the thug falls, his eyes are still trained on the two kids, with a bloodlust. Bryan turns to Yuki.)

Bryan: Grab your sword Yuki, it’s now or never!

(Yuki, still a bit shocked, nods and grabs Korace off of the ground.)

Korace: Yuki, listen to me. I have a plan.

Yuki: Make it quick.

(Bryan seems to think Yuki is speaking to him, and nods. Bryan rushes over to Thug 2, and throws a few jabs his way. Thug 2 tries to dodge, but he freezes up in fear, and Bryan fakes a strike out, and instead headbutts him in the forehead.)

Bryan: Hyaa!

(Thug 2 falls to the ground, gripping his head in pain.)

Thug 2: N- No! Please, Have mercy!!

Bryan: Don’t worry, I won’t kill ya!

(Bryan bends down and grins.)

Bryan: I need to turn you in alive if I want my points!

(Thug 2 stares at Bryan mortified, as if Bryan was some kind of psychopath. Back with Thug 1, he pulls himself off of the ground, and continues to swing at Yuki, relentlessly. The thug has completely lost his mind, swinging without care. A few panels can show his blurry, enraged vision, as his only target are the kids. He isn’t defending himself at all, swinging as if his limbs were lifeless ragdolls. Yuki is becoming scared of the thug, backing away slowly and trying to avoid him. As she backs up into a tree, Korace speaks to her.)

Yuki: Wh- What do I do?! I.. I…

Yuki: (I’ve never been so scared… This man is… he’s insane!)

Korace: Quickly, point me towards him!

(Yuki closes her eyes, terrified of the man’s sincere blood lust. She points Korace towards the thug, and shouts.)

Yuki: Just get away from me!!!

(Suddenly, a white-blue flash appears from the hilt of Korace. Hitachi and Bryan look towards Yuki.)

Hitachi: Yuki, Move alrea-

(As Hitachi yells, and right before the thug lands a backhanded slash on Yuki, Korace sends, from the hilt towards the thug, a giant wave of Ice, which floods out at a rapid pace. Yuki opens her eyes in shock and surprise, and Hitachi and Bryan are lost for words. The Ice keeps going, creating a giant, rugged cone shape, with its peak height reaching well above the treeline. Show a panel of birds flying away from the attack, as the sun is beginning to set. The Thug is completely encapsulated by the ice. Yuki is shaking, and drops Korace as she slouches down against the tree.)

Hitachi: W… Whoa.

Bryan: That was… incredible… was that Yuki?

(Some time passes, and when we return, the Thugs are all knocked unconscious, tied together much more firmly than before. Korace and Hitachi’s blade are lodged into the ground, side by side, shining in the sunset. Hitachi and Bryan are sitting at the table, side by side as well, While Yuki treats their head wounds. She is using the bags the thugs had as makeshift bandages.)

Yuki: Sorry, I know these aren't that great, but it will hold you guys off until we get to the village.

(She finishes tying it around Hitachi’s head, Bryan’s is already done. Hitachi sighs.)

Hitachi: That was too close… We could have seriously died back there.

Bryan:....

Yuki: Let’s just be glad we made it out. When we get some time to ourselves we need to work on getting a certain someone to stay put.

Bryan: S...Sorry guys…

(Yuki stares at Bryan, sighs, and smiles a bit, pulling her coat up to hide it a bit.)

Yuki: Don’t worry. Your far from perfect, trust me… but you meant well.

(Hitachi looks over at Korace, and then back at Yuki as she’s teasing Bryan. He seems to be thinking to himself again.)

Hitachi: Yuki.

(The other two stop, and Yuki looks at Hitachi.)

Yuki: Y- Yeah?

Hitachi: You said you didn’t know what your Talent was, yet what you did earlier was incredible. I think it’s obvious to all of us that wasn’t normal.

Yuki: I’m sorry… to be honest I-

Hitachi: I want to ask you something… and tell me the truth.

(Yuki stares at Hitachi, and sees he is extremely serious. Bryan watches the two in awe.)

Hitachi: Did you lie to us when you said you didn’t know what your Talent was?

(Yuki gulps. Bryan looks back and forth between the two.)

Bryan: H… hey, I don’t think now's the time for something like this. Shouldn’t we worry more about getting those three to the village?

Hitachi: If we are going to make this team work, we need to stop hiding things from each other. Let’s face it, we don’t work well at all together, not to mention we just met. So Yuki, tell me. Tell me the truth.

(Yuki looks down at her feet, and clenches her fists. She’s nervous, but looks confidently at Hitachi.)

Yuki: I didn’t lie. I told you the complete truth, I didn’t know that was my Talent, if it even is.

(Hitachi closes his eyes, and turns away. Bryan seems to be very uneasy about the conversation. After a second of thinking it over, Hitachi smiles.)

Hitachi: Alright. I believe you.

(Hitachi thinks silently to himself.)

Hitachi: (I feel bad that I’m being a bit of a hypocrite, but no going back now.)

(Yuki, sighs, relieved. Bryan does the same, but Bryan looks over at Korace.)

Bryan: I know it may sound crazy… but… what if it was her sword?

(Yuki jolts up, and Hitachi considers it.)

Hitachi: I’ve never heard of objects having Talents, but I wouldn’t discount the possibility. Yuki, what do you think?

Yuki: Honestly… I’m not sure. I’ve never seen it do that before… but I don’t think that Ice came from me, either.

HItachi: Hmm. Maybe we can look into it when we get to the village. We will rest here for now though, it’s getting late.

Bryan: What do we do about the criminals?

Hitachi: We’ll have to take turns keeping a lookout. Switch off during the night so we can all get some sort of sleep.

(Bryan yawns and stretches.)

Bryan: Sleep sounds pretty good to me, that was enough action for one day.

Yuki: Whoa, didn’t think that would come out of your mouth, of all people…

Bryan: A hero needs his sleep too!

(Bryan lays his head down onto the table, and Hitachi and Yuki laugh a bit. As they are getting comfortable, The two suddenly tense up, and rush to grab their swords. Bryan jolts up, and looks around.)

Byran: What!? What is it!?

(Hitachi and Yuki are in battle poses, as a small car drives down the path near them. It is driving straight towards them. Bryan also gets up, and cracks his knuckles.)

Bryan: Crap, did they actually call for backup!?

(The car stops a few feet from them, and two people climb out of the car. A middle aged, blonde women, in a silk, business esc suit with glasses and an older, shorter man with gray hair and a gentlemanly attire look towards the kids as they get out of the car.)

Old Man: Hmm…

(The old man pulls out a cane and shuts the door behind him, and the women pulls out a more high tech version of the C.R.O.W. The man looks around, and notices the thugs tied together by the sidelines. He then directs his attention towards the three kids, and clears his throat.)

Old Man: *High Pitched voice*  Hiya~!
{Write that in his speech bubble the first time he speaks}

(The three kids don’t move, but their expressions show a mix of confusion and surprise.)

Old Man: Allow me to introduce myself. I am the chief of Kuro Kuro village. I think I see one familiar face, Is that you, Mrs. Versai?

(Yuki blinks a few times, and then answers, lowing her blade. The other two follow her lead.)

Yuki: Um.. yeah, Mr. Kuro…. But what are you doing all the way out here?

Hitachi: You know him?

(The woman moves past the chief and stands directly in front of the the kids. She twirls her updated C.R.O.W in her hand as she raises it, and she then flashes each of them in the face, one by one, with a camera on her C.R.O.W, blinding the three.)

Bryan: Whoa, hey, what the heck was that?!

Hitachi: Damn, why did you do that?

(The woman talks rapidly and efficiently, as she rapidly taps her screen.)

Woman: Hmm. I see. Bryan Nomuri, though Nomuri seems to be an adopted name. Your the only one here logged into the DU database, do you care to explain what you are doing way out here without a team? Unless this is your team, in which case to avoid a lawsuit you will have to register your friends there into the system sometime within the next 24 hours. I’m surprised your way out here on your own, it says here you live in Toaru city, a far cry from Kuro Kuro for sure, a days trip, and I’m talking about a car. God knows how long a journey like that would be on foot.

Bryan: Wh- Whoa lady… calm down, take a breather.

(The woman points her index finger and middle finger outward towards Yuki.)

Woman: Your name miss?

Yuki: Huh? Oh… Um, Yuki Versai, nice to-

(The woman moves onto Hitachi, annoying Yuki.)

Woman: And you?

Hitachi: Hitachi Justice.

Woman: Right, I’ll have to conduct my research on you, Hitachi. Your face isn’t registered for miles, so you must be a long way from home, as for Yuki, you came up as owning a residential area near by, however a satellite picked up that the residence is now gone, I am so sorry for your loss, but that's how these things go. Thank you for handling these thugs, we appreciate your cooperation with the Dragon University and hope for-

(Chief Kuro pats the woman on the back.)

Kuro: Clam down, Jess. Your talking too fast for them to understand you, I think.

(the three kids have swirls in their eyes, completely lost. The woman coughs shylly, and pushes her glasses into place.)

Jess: R-Right. My bad sir.

(Kuro clears his throat again.)

Kuro: You three, come to the village with us. We can get you all registered as a legit team at the local outpost.

(Yuki is still a bit confused, but she smiles warmly towards Kuro.)

Yuki: Thank you Mr. Kuro, we’d appreciate the lift. But… may I ask how you knew we were even here?

Kuro: Your not as far from the village as you may think. You kids made quite the ruckus. Not to mention that giant iceberg that appeared a few hours ago.

(Yuki blushes a bit, and Bryan laughs.)

Bryan: I like these guys! Alright, let’s get going you two!

Hitachi: If they offer us a place to spend the night, I’m down.

Yuki: Honestly, I could go for some food…

Jess: All of that will be accounted for. Now please get into the car, I will handle the criminals.

(The group gather their things, and prepare to leave. The three thugs are tied to the top of the car, In a comedic fashion, and the three kids squeeze into the back. Jess drives them, with Kuro in the passenger seat, humming to himself.  An image of them driving towards the village as night falls closes the chapter off.)

Chapter 5 "Rookies Grow Up"

Spoiler

Chapter 5  “Rookies Grow Up” Start

(This chapter opens on a shot of the early morning sun rising. Yuki’s, Hitachi’s, and Bryan’s jackets are washed, and drying on a clothesline, a small bird is sitting on the line, pecking itself. Yuki is sitting nearby, with a cup of coffee. She is sitting on some stone steps leading to a modest cottage, and some villagers are hustling and bustling about in the background. As Yuki takes a sip, she thinks to herself about the recent events.)

Yuki: (Man… still can’t believe I’m actually here right now.)

(A few images flash in the background behind her of Thug 2 destroying her house, forming the team, her watching Bryan train as he talks to his C.R.O.W, and the giant Iceberg shot out of Korace.)

Yuki: (My life has been so cut and dry after I started living on my own. I never would have imagined I’d have to fight for my life like that.)

(Yuki looks up at the sky, and stretches.)

Yuki: (I don’t think I’ve ever done anything like this before… )

(New flashes appear, Ones implying that the three celebrated the night before. The next few panels flashback. They are sitting around a table, and Bryan is eating a crap ton as Hitachi and Yuki watch.)

Hitachi: You could, you know, actually enjoy your food.

Bryan: [Mouth Full] We worked hard for tis! We need to cerebrate!

Yuki: Please… chew your food with your mouth closed, Byran.

(Bryan swallows it all down and laughs.)

Bryan: You guys need to lighten up, this is our first completed request! This should be special!

( Yuki and Hitachi look at each other, and Hitachi shrugs and Yuki downs some drink on the table.)

Hitachi: Sounds good to me, I haven't really enjoyed myself since I left Arcadia.

(Yuki instantly spits her drink into the air, and Bryan chokes on his food.)

Yuki: Excuse me? Did you just say Arcadia?

Bryan: Isn’t that… like a whole other country?! Not even next to ours, Arcadia is like, Waaaay out there!

Hitachi: I know.

Yuki: How did you get all the way out here?

Hitachi: I walked.

(Bryan’s jaw drops.)

Bryan: I walked from Toaru to here, and I thought I’d pass out!

Hitachi: Well that doesn't surprise me, to be honest.

(Yuki laughs a bit and Bryan yells at Hitachi. Jess is visible from the next room, watching the kids goof off. Yuki notices, but pretends not to. She brushes it off, and keeps chatting.)

Yuki: Seriously though, you came a long way. Hey, got any stories?

(Bryan Perks up.)

Bryan: Oh, yeah! Common’, you must have something?

(Hitachi stretches, and folds his arms behind his head as he thinks back to his journey.)

Hitachi: Hmm… The first thing that comes to mind was this one time, I was chased down by a pack of wolves.

Bryan: Whoa, really? What did you do?

(Hitachi deadpan stares into Bryan’s eyes.)

Hitachi: I slaughtered each of them, one by one.

(Bryan seems mortified, Yuki unshoke. Hitachi laughs playfully before continuing.)

Hitachi: Just kidding, Bryan. I actually gave them some of the food I packed. They were surprisingly tame. I found out later some man in a really puffy scarf kept them as pets.

Bryan: [Sniffling] That was a cruel joke…

Hitachi: Eh, knowing you, you’d probably forget about it the next time someone mentioned DU.
Yuki: About that, what’s our next step? Did you turn in those thugs yet?

Bryan: Yeah actually. I’m just waiting for the points to be rewarded.

Yuki: So how much did we earn? I need to be able to gauge how long this will take.

Bryan: Well, the request was 40 points, though I don't know how well that translates to money…

(As the kids chat, Jess suddenly enters the room with her C.R.O.W in hand. She stands over the kids suddenly, looking down on them as she adjusts her glasses into place.)

Jess: 4 Dollars.

(There is silence. The kids stare up to her in confusion, and then Bryan and Hitachi show disbelief. Yuki’s face is shadowed out.)

Bryan: Ex- Excuse me, miss?

Hitachi: Did, you just say-

Jess: 40 points translates to 4 Dollars, exactly. The points are scaled to accommodate the skill level of the party involved, and the rank of the request. Seeing as they were low ranked thugs, and you are at the very bottom of the barrel, you have earned 4 Dollars. If you were a full fledged party, you may have earned around 40 or 50 for that encounter. Think of it as a “minimum wage”. They have to make it feasible as a job, but you did the equivalent to mopping the floors of the bathroom stalls, and that's being generous.

(Bryan looks as if he’s about to cry, and then starts to sweat, as if he just thought of something. He slowly cocks his head in Yuki’s direction. Yuki seems beyond pissed.)

Yuki: 4 Dollars… Bryan. You made me risk my life for 4 Dollars?

Bryan: Y-Yuki!! Calm down, I’m sure that this was just a bad misunderstanding. Miss, are you-

Jess: I am beyond positive. Believe it or not my Talent is Strategist. I believe I have only ever made two mistakes in my life, as of this moment.

(Yuki clenches her fists. Bryan sweats even more, and tenses up. Hitachi is chuckling in the corner.)

Hitachi: Oh man Bryan, your screwed!

(Yuki leaps at Bryan, attempting to choke the life out of him.)
Yuki: If I turn in his dead corpse as fertilizer to some old hag, how much do you reckon I can make!?

(Bryan is tapping the ground as if to say “I Give up!” Yuki continues to strangle him comedically. Jess taps a few times on her C.R.O.W, and responds.)

Jess: Assuming you want the points to translate into direct cash, some black markets may offer upwards of 4000 Dollars.

Yuki: You hear that Bryan, that’s a good chunk of cash!

Bryan: Please, I give! I’m sorry Yuki! I’m sorry!!!

(The scene fades away back to reality as Yuki sighs, and looks down at the grass. Bryan walks out of the cabin, and waves.)

Bryan: Yo!

Yuki: one thousand added.

Bryan: Really, your still mad?

Yuki: Keep talking, and I’ll keep building up your debt.

(Bryan sighs, and sits next down next to her. She scoots away a bit.)

Bryan: Listen, I looked into it, and there are requests that give a whole ton more. Plus, Jess said the more we do, the points will eventually start to “Scale up”. [Under his breath] Whatever that means…

(Yuki sighs, and looks up to him.)

Yuki: Listen, unlike you and Hitachi, I haven’t really ever fought other people. I’m not really cut out for this kind of thing...

(Yuki looks back down to the ground, upset. Bryan does the same.)

Bryan: O...Oh. Alright, I see. I guess I can’t really blame you for that. If you want to, me and Hitachi can just find someone else…

(Yuki stands up, turns around, and puts her pointer finger on Bryan’s forehead, surprising him.)

Yuki: What the hell are you talking about? If I didn’t stay, you’d never pay me back.
(Bryan lightens up.)

Bryan: Wait, you want to stay!?

Yuki: “Have to stay” and “Want to stay” are two very different things, but whichever helps you sleep better at night.

(Bryan bounces up and hugs Yuki, for a second Yuki shows surprise, but gets back into character within a few seconds.)

Yuki: G-Get off of me, you damn homewrecker!!

(Hitachi is leaning on the wall, inside, listening to the exchange. He has a warm smile, and he walks away. The next time we see Yuki and Bryan, Bryan looks as if he was punched into the ground, comedically, and Yuki is pouty on the steps. Hitachi emerges from the cottage with Korace and his blade.)

Hitachi: Alright you two, let’s hit that outpost. Can’t sit around like a couple of freeloader all day.

(Hitachi tosses Korace at Yuki, who catches it with ease. Bryan perks up and acts if nothing just happened.)

Bryan: Right! Let’s get going!

(Kuro walks up to them from off panel.)

Kuro: Hiya~!

(He startels Bryan, but the other two smile and wave to the old man. Kuro points to the north.)

Kuro: Our outpost is located that way. We don’t have too much in the way of requests in a small village, and especially these days…

(Yuki tilts her head.)

Yuki: “These days”? What do you mean Kuro?

Kuro: Well, a few weeks ago a couple of-

(Suddenly, from the far end of the village, a  loud roar of thunder and a flash of lighting can be seen striking. Bryan freaks out, Yuki and Hitachi whip around, weapons ready.)

Hitachi: What the hell was that!?

Bryan: Whoa, thunder without any storm!? I didn’t sign up for that!!

Yuki: Kuro get inside, we’ll go check it out.

(Kuro’s demeanor doesn't waver. In fact, he seems pleased.)

Kuro: Hmm… Yes, why don’t you three go and check it out?

(Kuro hops up the steps and walks into the house, Hitachi catching notice of how casual he just was. The three run over to the site of the thunder, and see a decent sized crater in the middle of a village road. Bryan goes to check it out, and as he peers into the crater, he freaks out.)

Bryan: Whoa guys! There’s like four guys down there! Come help me-

(Bryan goes to turn around, and to Yuki’s, Hitachi’s, and especially Bryan’s surprise, he suddenly has a knife in his face. He moves back, but the knife is moving quicker. Right before it makes contact, the wielder notices something, and backs off. Taro K had caught Bryan off guard, but it seems Bryan’s face had caught Taro as equally off guard. The two stare each other, awkwardly, until Taro takes a few steps back.)

Taro: Whoa- sorry about that kid, I thought you were one of those bandits.

(Bryan still looks a bit scared, but he takes another look into the crater and starts to piece together what just happened.)

Bryan: Wait, were you the one who created that thunder just now?

Taro: No, but I know who-

(From behind Yuki and Hitachi, two new figures appear and push past them. Fukagawa’s cape is flapping in the wind as he walks, one hand has his book, and the other is scratching his head. Lillian is walking close besides him, her circular blade over her shoulder.)

Fukagawa: Tch-! What the hell happened?

Yuki: Whoa…

Hitachi: Who in the…

(Taro slides his knifes away into his sleeves, and adjusts his scarf, staring at Fukagawa.)

Taro: You said that we were the only party out here. But clearly, you’ve miss calculated.

Fukagawa: I made an educated guess, so sorry about that. [Sarcasm]

(Fukagawa peers over the crater, and laughs to himself a bit. Lillian is sort of rocking in place, and Taro sighs. Yuki and Hitachi get closer as Bryan steps back a bit.)

Fukagawa: Lillian, go inform the outpost that we have a couple of criminals here.

Lillian: You got it~!

(Lillian skips past the others, towards the village.)

Bryan: Are you guys a Rookie Party?

(Fukagawa looks a bit disgusted by Bryan’s claim, and turns to face him.)

Fukagawa: Excuse me? “Rookie Party”?

(A shot of Fukagawa adjusting his glasses, with Taro adjusting his gloves is shown.)

Fukagawa: You are talking to the leader of Team Fukagawa. We are middle tier team, I’ll have you know.

Bryan: Whoa! That’s awesome!

(Bryan moves up to Fukagawa and starts to blabber on about fanboy things.)

Bryan: So, who’s your team leader? How long you been doing this? How many points do you guys have?

(Fukagawa freezes up, and then pushes Bryan away in disgust.)

Fukagawa: Weirdo! Calm down!

(Bryan laughs as the others are discussing things. Yuki and Hitachi begin talking with Taro.)

Hitachi: Sorry about our “Friend” there. Names Hitachi. [Pointing back to Yuki] And that’s Yuki.

Taro: Taro K.. It is a pleasure to meet you.

(Taro bows politely towards the two.)

Taro: Have you guys been out here long? Perhaps you live around here?

Yuki: Actually, out of my group I’m the only one familiar with the village and forest.

Taro: Hmm. I see. Well, whatever the situation is, I’m sorry if me and my team perhaps butted into your territory.

(Taro looks over at Fukagawa, who is still holding Bryan at an arm’s length away.)

Taro: That’s our leader, Reihei Fukagawa. He’s a bit of an egoist, but he means well. The girl with us earlier was Lillian Gardineer.

Hitachi: Right, well, it’s a pleasure running into people more experienced than us.

Taro: So you are another team, then? Judging by how your pal over there reacted, I’m assuming you’re just starting out.

Yuki: Yeah, honestly we started a few days ago. These two owe me for something, so we are just trying to earn money quick.

Taro: Right. Well, if you want to get money quicker, you could always-

(Suddenly, the C.R.O.Ws in Bryan and Fukagawa’s pockets go off while they are bickering at each other, they both check it simultaneously. Jess appears on both of their screens.)

Jess: Good. I was worried your C.R.O.Ws were so outdated that they couldn’t receive calls. Hurry back to the Chief's place, we must discuss something important.

(She hangs up, and the two look at each other. Fukagawa seems annoyed.)

Fukagawa: I see your also in contact with her?

Bryan: Heheh! You could say that.

(Fukagawa presses a few buttons on the C.R.O.W and calls Lillian as he motions for Taro. He speaks as the two walk away.)

Fukagawa: That woman in black wants a word with us, hurry back. And don’t stop to shop around like last time…

(Yuki and Hitachi go over to Bryan.)

Yuki: You ok, Bryan?

Bryan: Yeah, that scarf kid didn’t actually cut me or anything. I didn’t know there was another team in this village.

Hitachi: Judging by how they spoke, they don’t seem to be from around here, either. You just got a call from Jess, right? Let’s start heading back.

(The scene switches to the cottage from before, and now the three have their jackets back on. Fukagawa’s group is also there. They are all standing on one end of the table, while Jess is on the other. Jess seems frustrated.)

Jess: This is the fifth time since your arrival, Team Fukagawa, that you’ve caused substantial damage to our village.

(Yuki nudges Bryan sharply in the side.)

Yuki: [Under her breath] Remind you of anyone?

(Bryan seems embarrassed but smiles. Jess continues.)

Jess: And everytime you create a wreck in the village, it’s technically my job to clean it up.

(Fukagawa and his team seem a bit embarrassed with themselves.)

Jess: As you can imagine, this becomes rather stressful. So, I’ve come up with an idea that may benefit both of your troops.

(Jess lays down a file on the table. Confidential is plastered on the front.)

Jess: I am sending the both of you on a joint mission. I’ve actually already signed you up.

(All six kids seem surprised by this.)

Fukagawa: What? Wait, you want us to work with complete newbies like them!?

(Hitachi seems annoyed by his remark.)

Jess: The job is in Toaru, you’ll be looking into some recent events near Gilman street, recent gangster activity. It will be dangerous, so you’ll need to watch each others backs. Look at it this way. You want higher rated jobs, Fukagawa, and they need experience and points. By working together on this, each team will receive 1000 points, so it works in both of your favors.

(The surprise intensifies.)

Yuki: 1000 points!?

Hitachi: That’s… that’s definitely a big jump from what we just did.

Taro: Hey, Fukagawa.

(Fukagawa is still annoyed.)

Fukagawa: What is it?

Taro: We haven't done a joint operation before, either. The further we climb, the more common this will be. This benefits us as much as it benefits them.

Lillian: Plus, we get to meet new people! It sounds like fun, if you ask me.

(Fukagawa’s eye twitches, and then he motions for his team to meet him outside. Yuki’s group moves to follow them, Jess stops them.)

Jess: Actually, I have a bit more for you three.

(They turn to face her.)

Jess: There's a few things you should know, that you clearly don’t. First of all, whenever you complete a task, you can set a marker on the C.R.O.W for a cleanup crew to arrive and award your points.

Yuki: So we could have avoided them getting away…

Jess: If you mean the first time you caught them, then yes, exactly. From what you told me last night, your all walking blindly into this. I suggest once you get to Toaru, you settle into a hotel room or something, and knock out a handful of requests there. Make a name for yourselves. It’s not uncommon for popular teams to receive private requests.

Hitachi: Right, I think that’s a good idea as well. It’s not like we have a place to stay otherwise.

(They all wave goodbye, and exit the building, Jess watching as they leave. When Yuki’s team steps out side, they are greeted with Fukagawa’s team making a dash for the woods.)

Yuki: What the-!?

(Fukagawa turns around, pulling his eyelid down and sticking his tongue out. Taro seems annoyed, and Lillian seems to just enjoy running.)

Fukagawa: 1000 points is a lot, but 2000 is even more! Why split it when we can take it for ourselves!

Hitachi: You little *censored*!!

(The three chase after them, and from the doorway they eventually fade out of view, running into the woods towards Toaru. Jess is in the doorway, when Kuro laughs from inside [He was in another room] )

Kuro: Definitely a rowdy bunch, these rookies.

Jess: Well, I’m just glad we got rid of them. They were too noisy.

(Jess walks back in, adjusting her suit.)

Jess: These kids need to realise that rookies grow up. This kind of work is going to become more dangerous and more rigorous. They can’t keep being so unprofessional.

Kuro: You were a rookie once, weren't you?

Jess: Yes, but I’m a senior now. I’ve grown far beyond that point.

Kuro: Oh really? Three.

Jess: H-Huh? Excuse me sir?

Kuro: Well, rookie, you’ve made three mistakes now. I remember you saying your record was two.

(Jess seems suddenly extremely embarrassed and flustered.)

Jess: What… are you talking about, sir?

(Kuro points to the file on the table.)

Kuro: They never opened it. They only know that their job is in Toaru, on Gilman street.

(Jess face seems terrified, as she just sent six kids away without their information.)

Jess: C...crap….

(Jess grabs the file and runs after the kids, Kuro watching from the doorframe.)

Kuro: It’s a great day for some exercise, I’d say. Wonder if she can catch up?

(The chapter ends with a view of Jess running, with the file hugged to her chest.)

Chapter 6 "A Request"

Spoiler

Chapter 6 “ A Request “ Start

(The chapter opens with a shot of the wilderness, from a top down point of view, and then the three, Yuki, Bryan, and HItachi, lost in the woods. They are all standing around, attempting to catch their breath after chasing Fukagawa’s team. Bryan is sitting against a tree, Hitachi pushing against one with his head hung down, and Yuki is bent forward, gasping for air.)

Yuki: D- Damn it… did you guys see where they went?

(Hitachi shakes his head in defeat, and Bryan doesn't respond.)

Yuki: This blows.

(Yuki sits down, setting her sword by her side. Hitachi does the same, and Bryan undoes his headband and messes with his hair in frustration.)

Bryan: Darn! Their going to beat us at this rate!!

Hitachi: Well, maybe we can find a shortcut? Bryan, do you know any?

(Bryan shakes his head no.)

Bryan: I don’t even know the way back to Toaru from here normally, if I’m going to be honest.

Yuki: Why does nothing you say surprise me anymore?

(Hitachi sighs, and then tries to think of a plan.)

Hitachi: The one in the cape, Fukagawa. He was using the C.R.O.W like some sort of compass or map. Bryan, can the C.R.O.W do something like track a destination?

(Bryan pulls his C.R.O.W out, and ponders the possibility.)

Bryan: Well, I think so. But I’m not really sure of how to set it to do that…

(Yuki facepalms.)

Yuki: (This kid is useless!)

(Bryan laughs a bit in embarrassment, and Hitachi seems annoyed.)

Hitachi: Man, we really are a train wreck of a team, huh?

Yuki: You got that right.

(Suddenly, the C.R.O.W buzzes.)

Bryan: W-Whoa!

Hitachi: What is it?

Bryan: I… don’t know. It’s never done that before.

Yuki: Does it say anything?

(Bryan looks down at the C.R.O.W to see the words “URGENT” scrolling across the screen. Then, a request is pinged to the main menu, reading “Open?” underneath it.)

Bryan: An “Urgent Request”? I’ve never heard of that… Why would rookies like us even receive something like this?

Hitachi: Isn’t it supposed to ping everyone closest to the request? Aren't we in the middle of nowhere?

Yuki: Instead of asking questions, let’s investigate the area.

(Yuki smirks as she gets ready to head off.)

Yuki: Maybe someone from the village got raided by thugs or something. A little bit of extra cash wouldn’t hurt.

Hitachi: Good point. [Under his breath] Besides that last bit...

Hitachi: Alright team, let’s split up.

Bryan: How will we get in touch with each other? You two don’t have C.R.O.Ws…

Hitachi: Hmmm… well, If we need each other, just scream “Crow!”, real loud. The request can’t be far, so if we’re loud enough, we should all be able to hear it, no matter where we are.

(Yuki and Bryan look at each other, then back at Hitachi.)

Yuki: That seems really dumb and dangerous. What if it is thugs? Wouldn’t shouting only give us away?

Hitachi: Just get far enough away from them so that we have time to get to you. Just don’t get yourself caught.

(Hitachi looks at Bryan.)

Hitachi: Don’t. Get. Caught.

(Bryan makes a pouty face.)

Bryan: Jeez, I get it. Stupid face.

(The three split up, and a quick montage passes of the three searching the forest on their own. Bryan tries to climb trees for a good view, but sees nothing. Hitachi attempts to call out to people, but no one answers. Yuki, the last one shown, is walking through the woods, sort of wandering without any real direction.)

Yuki: This was really, really stupid. We shouldn’t be split up like this if the C.R.O.W is warning us it’s “Urgent”. What do you think, master?

Korace: You have a point, but I don’t sense any real danger around. Perhaps the device malfunctioned?

Yuki: You can “Sense” danger?

Korace: Not really, just my… intuition, I suppose.

Yuki: Right….

Korace: I’ve seen many a battlefield. If there is trouble, one gets this sort of, “gut feeling”, if that makes any sense.

Yuki: I mean, I don’t know how a sword can have a “gut feeling”, but whatever you say.

Korace: Don’t sass me, young lady.

Yuki: Y-Yes, master…

(Yuki keeps walking a bit further, until Korace speaks again.)

Korace: Wait...

(Yuki stops, looks down at Korace.)

Yuki: What is it?

Korace: The left. Go to the left.

(Yuki looks forward, and notices the path she is following only hooks right.)

Yuki: You sure you didn’t break your “senses”? Maybe your just getting a bad signal?

Korace: What did I just say about sass?

Yuki: Ugh, fine. But If I get pricked by some thorns or something trying to go through these bushes, it’s on you.

(Yuki pushes through the bushes, struggling to squeeze through tight trees and branches as she heads deeper into the woods. Eventually, she trips, and falls into a small clearing. In the center of the small clearing is a small, wooden cabin. There are no paths leading out of the clearing. Yuki looks up after falling, and is surprised and chilled.)

Yuki: What the…

Korace: Keep your guard up. This place seems… off.

Yuki: Yeah, I’d say any creepy old house in the woods would seem “off”...

(Yuki gets up, dusting herself off but not taking her eyes off of the cabin. She slowly edges closer, her hand on Korace’s handle, ready to draw her if necessary. As Yuki approaches, she notices a tall, lanky silhouette in one of the cabin windows. Yuki gets chills down her spine [visible to the reader] and she freezes.)

Yuki: Do… do you see that?

Korace: See what? I don’t exactly have eyes, Yuki.

Yuki: Well, do you sense it? Someone is in there…

(The tall figure seems to be staring back, and then it slides out of view. Yuki stands her ground. And after a few silent, tense moments, the cabin door begins to creek open.)

Korace: Yuki! You need to fall back and call the others, this could be danger-

(As the door swings open fully, a small child, a young girl no older than six years old, with long, brown wavy hair, wearing a shirt a little to large for her, is revealed staring at Yuki. The girl seems curious, and after a second tilts her head as if she is confused. Yuki releases her grip on Korace, and stares back in a similar manner.)

???: May! Get back! What did I tell you about-

(A much older voice can be heard from inside the cabin, and a tall, lanky man, in his mid 30’s, stumbles over to shield the little girl from the door. He looks at the girl, and then up at Yuki.)

???: What? Hey, are you…?

(The man now leaves the girl behind at the doorway, and stumbles outside. He is wearing an old, worn out sweater vest, and dress pants. He has a bit of a beard growing, and short, brown hair. Yuki takes a step back as the man approaches.)

???: You wouldn’t happen to be… from a Party, would you?

(Yuki gulps, and then, while looking back at the girl, responds.)

Yuki: Um…  Yeah, you could say that. Why, do you-

(The man, a foot or two away from Yuki now, suddenly drops to his knees in front of her, and slams his head into the dirt, bowing to her. Yuki seems shocked, and the little girl winces, as if she thinks the man might have hurt his head.)

???: Please!!! I Beg you!!! Help my daughter!!!

(Yuki seems taken aback, not sure how to handle the situation. The man grips at the grass and dirt, on the verge of tears.)

???: My darling has been suffering from a rare illness, and I can’t find the herbs to treat her anywhere near here! She isn’t fit enough to travel to the city anymore, and I’ve just run out of my last few spares! I can’t leave her here alone, I’m all she has, so please, help us!

(Yuki, shocked at first, bends down and pats the man on the back.)

Yuki: It’s… ok sir. I’ll help.

(The man lifts his head, a bruise already forming where his head made impact with the ground. Tears fall as he stares into Yuki’s eyes.)

???: R-really? You’d do that? I can’t pay much, and I don’t have much to offer in return, but I’d be forever in your debt if-

(Yuki gets up, and the man pauses, scared she might leave.)

???: Wait, please, don’t go! I’ll do anything! I can’t bear to see my daughter like this, I need your-

(Yuki looks down at the man, annoyed.)

Yuki: I already said I’d help, so stop worrying about it. I don’t care about any rewards. Wait here a sec, I’ll call my team.

(The man, still crying, sits up, as his daughter wobbles over, weakly, to comfort him. Yuki walks a few feet away, towards the surrounding woods, and shouts at the top of her lungs.)

Yuki: CROW!!!!!

(There is silence. Yuki looks towards the woods, as the man and his daughter looked stunned, but also in awe. Yuki turns to them.)

Yuki: They’ll be here soon. I suggest you take her inside, we can discuss the details when they get here.

(The man, still awe struck, nods, picks himself up, as well as his daughter, and walks into the cabin, leaving the door open to Yuki. Yuki stays behind for a bit.)

Korace: Yuki…

Yuki:....

Korace: This… this is very grown up of you… I’m proud.

(Yuki stares down at the ground, her hair covering her eyes, her eyes are not visible to the reader.)

Yuki: That girl… she reminds me of myself.

(Korace doesn't respond. There is silence.)

Yuki: I have a illness like that too, you know.

Korace: Yuki, it’s not an-

(Yuki snaps, her upper face shaded out.)

Yuki: Yes, it is!

(Another long silence. Yuki then whispers the words to herself again. She lightly traces over her eye patch with her free hand, pushing away her hair as she does.)

Yuki: It is an illness. One I can’t cure…

Korace: .... You should go inside and speak with that man. Go and see if he needs help with anything while you wait for the others.

Yuki: I planned on it…

(Yuki takes a second to readjust herself, and then enters the cabin. She clears her throat as she walks in. The cabin is small, and for the most part baren as far as furniture goes. A desk full of notes and books is noticeable in the corner of the room, and the father is sitting at a table, in what seems to be their dining room or kitchen.)

Yuki: So, what’s your name sir?

(The man looks up, his face still a bit dusty and red. He nods towards Yuki politely, and offers her a seat at his table. Yuki walks over to sit as he responds.)

???: My friends used to call me Higs, back in the day.

Yuki: Right, well I’m Yuki. And your daughter’s name was May, if I heard that right?

Higs: Yes, that would be correct. I can’t stress to yourself how grateful we are for your kindness.

Yuki: What are you two doing all the way out here on your own? Why don’t you move in with the villagers a few miles from here?

(Higs sighs, pressing his hands together, and leans over the table.)

Higs: My wife used to love this old cabin. We live here to honor her memory, though I guess that does sound a bit ridiculous.

Yuki: I don’t think it’s ridiculous at all, it’s honorable that you’d even consider that. Your wife, did she…

Higs: She passed away four years ago now. She died of the same illness our daughter is suffering through…
(Yuki looks down at the table, not knowing what to say.)

Yuki: I’m… sorry about that.

Higs: Don’t worry about it, It’s been a long time since. We’ve moved on. We may not have much, but we live happily here, and that’s all that really matters to us.

(Suddenly, from outside, shouting can be heard.)

Bryan: Hey!!! Yuki!!! You here!?

(Yuki cracks a bit of a smile, and then sighs.)

Yuki: That’s one of my friends. Hold on a moment.

(Yuki gets up and walks out of view. The scene stays with Higs as the conversation between Yuki and Bryan plays out. Their interactions aren't visible, just Higs reactions to them.)

Bryan: Hey! Yuki! Man, I got scared *censored*less when you screamed like that, good to see your all in one piece, hahaha-

(A loud crash is heard, and Higs seems startled and concerned.)

Yuki: Shut up, you dumbass! There’s a kid in there, watch your mouth!

(The scene then shows Yuki and Bryan sitting at the table, Bryan with a lump on his head. Yuki seems annoyed with him.)

Bryan: [Under his breath] You know, you said a bad word too…

Yuki: Bryan, this is Higs. He asked us to help him out.

Bryan: Um, ok, with what?

Higs: Well, I’ve run low on-

(Suddenly, the C.R.O.W Bryan has goes off again, and the screen reads “URGENT” again.)

Bryan: Man, what is with this thing?

Higs: Oh, I’m so glad!

(Bryan and Yuki looks at Higs confused.)

Higs: My C.R.O.W model is outdated, I was worried sending a request out wouldn’t work, but I’m so glad it did!

Yuki: Oh, I see. That would make sense.

(Bryan seems a bit lost.)

Bryan: Wait, he’s the request?

Yuki: Yeah, why?

Bryan: Well, that’s cool and all, but we can’t accept two requests at once. That preppy lady already signed us up for one, so we have to do it before we accept this one.

(Higs seems disheartened, and Yuki turns away, annoyed.)

Yuki: I don’t give a damn about any requests right now. Our first priority is helping these people out.

(Bryan seems stunned by Yuki’s reaction.)

Bryan: Whoa… Really?

Yuki: Yes, is there a problem with that?

Bryan: N-No! I just wasn’t expecting it, that's all! Also… did you say these people?

Yuki: Yeah, his daughter is over there.

(Yuki points over to another room, the girl’s bedroom. The door to it is open, but no response is heard or seen from it.)

Yuki: Um… is May ok?

Higs: She’s probably resting. She can’t really stand very well, her running over to me earlier probably did her in. I’ll go check on her.

(Higs gets up to go and see May, as Bryan and Yuki talk.)

Bryan: Alright, so let’s get this clear. We need to help this man find medicine plants for his daughter? Seems simple enough, I’m down to help!

Yuki: Why did you refer to herbs as “Medicine plants”...? Anyways, yeah, that's the gist of it.

Bryan: Actually, believe it or not, but I’m a pro at this sort of thing! I help the Doc gather stuff like that all the time back home, so leave it to me!

Yuki: The “Doc”? Who’s that-

(Higs comes running back from May’s room, flustered and horrified.)

Higs: Yuki, it’s May!

(Yuki and Bryan turn to Higs, as he panics.)

Higs: She's not in her room!

Yuki: What?

Bryan: Uh oh…

Higs: Her window was wide open... Do you think… she left the house…?

Yuki: It’s possible, if what you said is true, she couldn’t have gotten far. Bryan, common! We need to find her, and quick! She can’t handle being on her own for long!

Bryan: Right!

(The three run out of the cabin, screaming for May. The scene switches to another part of the woods, Hitachi is seen roaming around, yawning. )

Hitachi: Man, they were right. That plan was really dumb. I can’t even pinpoint where Yuki shouted from… Damn, I hope she’s ok…

(As Hitachi walks, he stops and looks up towards the trees. A little white cloud can be seen floating by. Hitachi seems confused.)

Hitachi: What in the… I really should get more sleep…

(As he rubs his eyes, he notices that a little girl, May, is riding on top, trembling, with a determined look on her face.)

Hitachi: … Huh? Is that… a kid?

Chapter 7 "Field of White"

Spoiler

Chapter 7 “Field of White” Start

( The chapter opens on Yuki, Bryan, and Higs, frantically searching deep in the woods for May. They are together, but are searching in different corners and bushes, calling her name. Bryan stops for a second, catching his breath.)

Bryan: I thought you said she could barely walk, how in the hell did she get this far out?

Higs: I’m not sure… I hope she’s not much further, if she keeps going, she might collapse!

Yuki: lets keep our hopes up that she hasn’t already…

(Higs notices an indent on the side of the path, traveling along the side. It is as if someone took a really wide stick, and drawn a line along the path. It doesn't seem to stop anywhere nearby, and it leads deeper into the woods.)

Higs: What… the?

(The other two look over and notice the line as well.)

Bryan: Um… that’s odd. Maybe it was the neighbors?

Yuki: Bryan, we are god knows how many miles away from the village at this point, and I’m pretty sure there isn’t anyone else that would choose to live out here in the middle of nowhere.

Bryan: Yeah but… don’t you live out here?

Yuki: Shut up.

Higs: I… I’ve never seen tracks like this before. It’s probably not an animal, at least not a local one…

Yuki: Let’s follow it, maybe May followed it too?

(Bryan thinks to himself as the follow the line.)

Bryan: None of this really makes sense. Does May usually run off like this?

Higs: She's never done anything like this before… just thinking about where she might be right now is making my heart skip a beat.

Yuki: Maybe Bryan’s loud mouth scared her off, and she’s hiding in a bush or something.

Bryan: I’m… not that loud…

(Before the scene switches, the three continue to follow the line deeper into the woods, still on the lookout for May. Meanwhile, the first shot shown of Hitachi is his sword, making a line in the dirt. He is dragging it silently behind him as he cautiously follows behind the girl on the cloud, May. He is a few feet behind her, and he has his eyes locked on her. He looks back for a quick second, down at his line.)

Hitachi: (I don’t know where this girl is going, but she might be related to that request Bryan got.)

(He looks back up towards the girl. Her expression hasn’t changed, still determined, as if she has only one goal in mind.)

Hitachi: (She’s been at it for awhile now… this trail should lead me back to where I was, maybe Yuki and Bryan will find it. I hope it doesn't bring any unwanted company, though… I wish I had thought of the practicality of this, but I didn’t want to lose her.)

(Suddenly, the girl and cloud stops.  Hitachi comes to a halt, and moves behind a nearby tree, casually. The girl seems disturbed, and then roughly coughs. Hitachi doesn't expect this, and notices that when May coughs, her cloud fades in and out.)

Hitachi: ….

(The girl takes a deep breath, and pushes on forward. Hitachi continues to follow.)

Hitachi: (She's sick… that would explain her trembling. But why did the cloud just… wait...)

(Hitachi looks to his sword, and then at the cloud.)

Hitachi: (I see. That would explain it. But for the cloud to act like that… she must be in a very unstable condition.)

(Again, the girl coughs, but it seems to catch her off guard, and the cloud comes to a sudden halt. Hitachi doesn't have time to hide, and as the girl coughs, the cloud starts to flicker in and out again. The cloud then fades out completely, to the girl’s surprise, and she starts to fall. She smacks onto the path with a light thud, due to her small nature, but the fall nonetheless clearly hurt her.)

Hitachi: H- Hey!

(The girl doesn't stop coughing, and Hitachi drops his sword in a panic and rushes over. He gets on one knee, and leans over the girl, observing to see if she maybe cut or bruised herself. She opens one eye, as the coughs were so brutal that she could barely see, and notices Hitachi. She does not panic though, instead, through the coughing, tries to talk with Hitachi.)

May: P… Please *cough*

Hitachi: What’s wrong, can you move?

May: I… I need to get to... *cough*

Hitachi: Stop talking. Just concentrate on trying to breath.

(Hitachi place his hand on her forehead, and his alarm only deepens.)

Hitachi: (Holy *censored*… this girl is beyond a fever right now!)

(The girl weakly lifts her hand, and points down the path, in the direction the two were heading in.)

May: T- There. I need to… *cough*

Hitachi: Just be quiet! You need to see a doctor, or somebody!

(Hitachi looks towards the path, and back down at her.)

Hitachi: I don’t know my way around this forrest, do you?

(May nods, weakly.)

Hitachi: Then here.

(Hitachi grabs May, and places her on his back. May holds on as tightly as she can, and Hitachi supports her with his left arm.)

Hitachi: (She's really light too… I don’t know if its because of my Talent or if she just weighs nothing…)

(Hitachi looks over to his sword, and then turns and begins walking down the path again with May.)

Hitachi: (I can come back for it later. Right now, this girl needs serious help. I should probably hurry up, but I don’t want to hurt her while I’m running…)

(The two continue to walk further into the forest. The scene switches  back to Yuki, Bryan, and Higs, who are still following the line.)

Bryan: So, she has a rare illness… what is it?

Higs: Polymyositis… That’s what her mother had as well.

Yuki: Poly… what now?

Bryan: Polymyositis. It causes the person's muscles to inflame, basically they get all weak until the person can’t move anymore.

(Yuki looks at Bryan confused.)

Yuki: How… do you even know that?

Higs: Your right, it can also cause a shortness of breath, fatigue, and sometimes it can even mess with her heart. That’s why I’m so scared… If something happens, anything that can cause her to panic, she may not be able to calm back down…

Yuki: Right…

(Yuki looks over at Bryan, perplexed that he knew what the disease was.)

Bryan: Then we really do need to hurry… huh?

(Bryan stops, and the others follow his lead. Yuki looks towards where Bryan is looking, and notices Hitachi’s sword on the ground.)

Yuki: Isn’t that…

(Bryan and Yuki run over, and Higs follows. Bryan bends down to look over the sword.)

Bryan: Yeah… I think this is Hitachi’s…

Yuki: Do you think he’s ok?

Bryan: I don’t know… why would he leave his sword behind?

(Heavy breathing can be heard from behind the two, and Yuki turns to see Higs, mortified.)

Higs: Oh no… theres someone else with something like that out here?! If May sees that… she’d… oh my god…

Yuki: Higs! Hey, calm down! Hitachi wouldn’t hurt her, or anything like that, right Bryan?

(Yuki turns to Bryan, but is shocked to see Bryan not exactly sure himself.)

Bryan: I… I don’t know. He seems nice, but he was with the band of thugs before… I don’t think he’d hurt May, but even if he startled her…

(Yuki is also panicking now.)

Yuki: We need to hurry. Quick, lets keep going.

(Bryan goes to lift up Hitachi’s sword, and is in shock.)

Bryan: Oh… oh my god…

Yuki: What is it now!?

(The mood of the scene changes drastically. Yuki and Higs looks dumbfounded and annoyed at Bryan as he tries to lift Hitachi’s sword, but can’t.)

Bryan: Why the hell is this so heavy!?

Yuki: We… don’t have time for this…

(The scene switches back over to Hitachi and May. The two have made good progress, but Hitachi looks worried. May is resting her head on Hitachi’s, and the two are walking until the path suddenly fades out, leaving the grass and trees in front of them.)

Hitachi: Did we take a wrong turn somewhere?

(Hitachi looks back at May, who says nothing. He starts to turn back to look for another road, but then May points to the trees.)

Hitachi: What? Are you sure?

(May nods, weakly.)

Hitachi: ....

(Hitachi looks towards the trees, hesitating.)

Hitachi: If we go through there… it’s going to be impossible to find our way out. I really think we should turn back and-

May: Please… It’s there… trust me…

Hitachi: (“It’s”... ?)

(Hitachi takes a deep breath, and pushes forward, cautiously, through the trees. He pushes branches and fauna out of his and May’s way as they walk, and eventually, the thick forest suddenly thins out, and leads to a wide open clearing. As they approach, Hitachi is blinded for a moment by the sudden light from the clearing, shielding his eyes with his free hand. Then, as he finally gains his vision back, he sees a wide, open field, filled with whitish flowers, atop rolling hills. The sudden change of scenery stuns Hitachi.)

May: This... is it.

(As Hitachi is stunned, the cloud from before whirls into form in front of him, and May climbs on top, weakly.)

Hitachi: H-Hey! Kid, we don’t really have time for-

May: My… dad. He really… likes these flowers. He used to… give them to mommy and… now he gives them… to me...

(Hitachi stops, and stares at her. May turns, and floats over to a spot in the field, and gently floats down. She then proceeds to attempt to pick flowers. As she tries, her body trembles, as if picking them was too much work for her to handle.)

Hitachi: … I think I get it.

(Hitachi walks over to where May floated to, and bends down to help her. The two begin to pick flowers together. After awhile, the scene switches back to the other three, frantically running down the path.)

Higs: May!!! May, where are you?!

Yuki: Hey, come on out!!

Bryan: (Damn it… at this rate… we could have missed her back along the path already…)

(The three make it to the part where the path ends, and they stop to catch their breath.)

Bryan: This… is pointless! She could have already gone back to the house, maybe she went to grab a stick to play with or something?

Yuki: Shut up!

Higs: Wait…

(Higs moves close to the trees, stepping ahead of the other two.)

Higs: Did she…

Yuki: What is it?

Higs: This… this leads to where we can find the herbs… you don’t think she…

Bryan: She left to find them herself!?

(Higs runs ahead into the trees, and, after Bryan and Yuki exchange a concerned look, follow suit. The scene switches back to Hitachi and May, when Hitachi hears a sound coming from the forest. May looks over, and Hitachi notices.)

Hitachi: Hey, kid… Did you hear that?

(May nods, and moves closer to Hitachi. Hitachi gets up and steps in front of May, facing the sound.)

Hitachi: Who’s there?

(Nothing happens at first, just the two staring towards the sound. Then, out of nowhere, Taro is flung through the sky, from the forest, towards the field. He is bloody and beaten, as if he was just fighting. He is barely conscious. He lands a few feet from Hitachi and May, with a loud thud. May doesn't get up, but she huddles near Hitachi’s leg, mortified.)

Hitachi: What the hell!?

(Hitachi’s eyes widen.)

Hitachi: Isn’t that…!

(A flashback to when Taro introduced himself and his team to Yuki and Hitachi is shown. After the quick flash, Taro is shown, barely breathing. He is cut up, and his shirt is torn up. Hitachi looks towards where he came from, and notices a white fog being emitted from a small part of the forest.)

Hitachi: Who else is there!? Show yourself!

(From the direction in which Taro came, a tall man, dark grey hair, in his mid 30’s, with a dirty t shirt and dark jeans emerges from the forest. The man is wearing a strange mask over his mouth, it has small tubes running from the sides that tie around his neck, and down his shirt. His eyes seem sunken, with bags underneath. Smoke seems to be coming from under the mask, it is being emitted around the man, and is falling to the floor. He looks at Taro, and then towards Hitachi and May.)

???: More rats? How big is this rookie party anyways…?

(Hitachi braces himself, and attempts to reach for his sword. He then realizes he doesn't have it anymore.)

Hitachi: S-*censored*! You’ve got to be kidding me! Kid, we need to-

(Hitachi looks down at May, who is breathing heavily. She seems to be barely awake, and she is focusing on her breathing.)

Hitachi: What… the hell?! Now, of all times!?

(Hitachi looks to the man, and seems to be in a panic. From the sidelines, in another part of the forest, close to the clearing, Higs can be seen in an equal panic, trying to rush out to help his daughter as he is being held down by Bryan and Yuki, who are also scared. Bryan is also covering Hig’s mouth. They saw what just happened, and are making sure Hig’s doesn't draw attention to themselves. Hitachi stares the man down, a shot of both of them staring at each other from across the field is shown, and then a close up of each.)

???: Listen… I’m going to have to ask you five to get the hell out of here. This is our turf.

Hitachi: (“You five”?)

(The man takes a step, and as he does, some of his smoke falls to the ground, and touches some of the flowers. The flowers suddenly wilt and dry out, as if something in the smoke is poisoning them. The chapter closes with the man’s face in full view, staring at the reader.)

???: If you won’t listen, I’ll have to make you leave by force. And I don’t think you’ll be fond of how I do that.

Chapter 8 "May"

Spoiler

Chapter 8 “May” Start

(The chapter opens on clouds of smoke gathering at the Smoke man’s feet, killing multiple flowers as it spreads and flows out. The shot is looks up towards the man, as he stares off towards Hitachi and May. Hitachi seems worried.)

Hitachi: Hey, kid, don’t get close to that guy.

(May looks towards the man in fear. Hitachi looks over towards Taro, who is still on the ground. Taro begins to get up, wiping away blood spilling from his forehead. Taro looks over towards Hitachi, and their gazes meet.)

Taro: Aren't you…?

Hitachi: Can you move, Taro?

(Taro looks down at himself, and slowly pulls himself up.)

Taro: Yeah. Listen, I’m not sure why your out here, but things have gotten really bad since we left the village.

Hitachi: I can see that. What happened to Fukagawa and Lillian?

Taro: It’s a long story. I’m not even sure if their ok, If I’m going to be blunt.

Hitachi: I see… Let’s worry about this freak for now. You can explain the situation after that.

Taro: You think we can take him? Getting close to this guy isn’t an option.

Hitachi: What do you mean?

(Taro pulls one of his knives out, and one side of it is completely decayed and ruined.)

Taro: Whatever that guy breathes out, his Talent, I’m not sure what it does but it has the ability to destroy whatever it touches. He can also control it remotely. He stopped my advance before without lifting a finger, and sent me flying with just his breath alone.

Hitachi: What? So did he blow and it created like a strong wind or something?

Taro: Not quite… It’s more like-

(The man begins to walk towards them.)

???: You know, instead of telling him, why don’t I show him?

(A loud, unnatural exhale  can be heard from underneath the man’s mask, and a thick cloud of smoke starts to develop and wrap around the man as he walks. Taro pulls out a new knife, and Hitachi braces himself, While May watches, still trying to control her breath.)

Taro: Get ready, he can attack from anywhere I think.

Hitachi: That so? Then we need to-

(The smoke around the man suddenly constricts itself, and then rushes forward, in a whip- like motion, towards Hitachi. Hitachi guards from the attack, but the smoke, instead of striking him, wraps around his body. Hitachi panics, and tries to break free, but notices the smoke as somewhat solidified.)

Hitachi: (What!? This isn’t smoke?)

(The man takes his right hand, and swats towards the right. Then, the Smoke whip takes Hitachi into the air, and flings him towards Taro. Taro braces himself for the impact, and as the two smack into each other, they fall to the ground together.)

???: If I wanted to, I could have just flung you right out of this forrest. Get it now?

(Hitachi and Taro scramble to their feet. The man looks over towards May.)

???: Your next kid. Scram.

(The man prepares his smoke again. Hitachi shouts towards May, who can’t move, both from fear and weakness, and attempts to reach out to her. The man raises his hand towards the camera [A dynamic shot for the artist] and the smoke dashes for May. A few panels are shown of the smoke getting closer to May, as she stares at it with fear, as if being simply touched by it would end her life. As the smoke as about an inch away, a sudden wall of Ice is erected between the two. The man seems shocked, and from behind him, Yuki’s silhouette can be made out.)

Yuki: Your fights with me!

(Yuki swings down at the man, and Korace cuts through some of the smoke around him before he manages to solidify it and catch the sword mid swing. Yuki is now stuck, trying to cut through the smoke, but is held in place.)

???: There's more!? That was too close…

(The man takes his leg, and as he un solidifies the smoke, kicks Yuki in the gut, making her stumble back and cough. She still holds onto Korace, but she has it to her side as she grasps her stomach.)

???: Who the hell… What!?

(The man turns to see May being carried away into the forest by Bryan.)

???: Just how many-

(As he turns back to Yuki, she has Korace pointed towards him.)

Yuki: Do it!

(Korace releases a similar iceberg to before, on a slightly smaller scale, aimed directly at the man. He uses his smoke to push the ground, which has him avoid the berg. He doesn't take his eyes off of Yuki, and as he goes to aim the smoke at her, a knife flies past his face, leaving a cut. He turns to see Taro running towards him, with Hitachi close behind.)

???: Screw off! Begone, all of you!

(The man raises his hands towards both parties, and sprays at them with smoke. All three are pushed back a bit, giving the man a second to breath. His hair becomes slightly messier, and he is having a hard time keeping up.)

???: Seriously, who the hell are you kids, who put you up to this!?

Yuki: Hitachi! Taro! Are you two ok!?

(Hitachi gives a thumbs up.)

Taro: I could be better. This guy’s a thug from around these parts. I’ll explain more after we take care of him.

Yuki: Don’t worry Taro, him trying to hurt May is all I needed to see to want to kick his ass.

(Yuki looks much more determined than ever before. She is focused, Korace at the ready infront of her. The man seems perplexed.)

???: That girl? Who the hell gives a damn! This is our part of the woods, and anybody who's dumb enough to set foot here, well, their lives are forfeit!

(The man prepares to send a whip at Yuki, but then stops at a sound of running.)

???: What now-

(Bryan comes from another angle, and jumps at the man in a full sprint. Bryan manages to land the first attack on the man, punching him directly in the face. The man seems in total shock, as his head spins.)

Bryan: This forrest doesn't belong to anybody, you jerk!

(Even Yuki and the others seem surprised by Bryan’s entrance, but Hitachi smiles.)

Hitachi: Right. Not surprised at all that this guy managed to piss the two of them off.

(Taro looks over to Hitachi.)

Taro: (Who the hell are these three… rookies would have just run with their tails between their legs…)

???: You…

(The man regains his footing as Bryan lands from his jump, and he stares Bryan down with killer intent.)

???: You will regret the day you set foot here.

(Suddenly, the smoke around the man intensifies, and becomes a darker shade of grey. Then the smoke spreads out wildly around him, killing all of the flowers around him. Bryan kicks himself back, Yuki creates a small ice wall in front of herself, and Hitachi and Taro are far enough back to not be affected.)

???: Prepare to suffer. My smoke will clog you throats like a thick poison, you will never breathe again!

(Bryan covers his mouth as the smoke blows past him, and Yuki creates an entire dome of ice around herself. Hitachi and Taro watch from a distance. Taro attempts to throw another knife, but it disintegrates as it passes through the fog.)

???: Nice try. I can will this smoke to do whatever I please. As long as it’s here, your deaths are inevitable!
(Bryan is seen falling to his knees, clearly in pain. He still covers his mouth, but he can no longer move.)

???: Ha! That's what you get brat, now suffer!

(some smoke, notably around Bryan, start to wrap around Bryan, and starts to crush him to death. Bryan seems like he wants to scream out in pain, but holds strong.)

Hitachi: Bryan! Hold on!

(Hitachi tries to run in, but Taro grabs him.)

Taro: Are you stupid!? Didn’t you see what that fog did to my knife!? You’ll die!

Hitachi: But if I don’t do something, those two will!

(A scene is shown of smoke around Yuki’s down solidifying, and smacking against the ice, leaving dents and cracks. Yuki seems horrified, but she is focused on keeping the dome in tact.)

Taro: Then we need a plan first, running in and joining them won’t help anyone!

(As the two argue, the man’s expression turns sadistic.)

???: Suffer… suffer long and fear your demise. Remember the name Wisp well, for I am the one who will send you to your grave. This is the penalty for all living things, who dare step foot in our domain.

(He leans forward, still sending out smoke.)

?Wisp: I am unbeatable! I am unstoppable! I am unkillab-!!!

(Suddenly, as he spouts on and on, the cloud May rides forms directly under his chin, and forces its way up, uppercutting him in dramatic fashion. From the edge of the woods, May has her arms held towards him, as she breathes heavily. Higs is behind her, surprised.)

Higs: Sweetheart… was that…?

May: My…. Talent….

(A title card for her Talent is shown as Wisp is being uppercutted. THe shot shows him forcefully looking up towards the camera, as the cloud raises rapidly. The title card reads “Talent: Puff Formation!!”)

Higs: I… I thought you were Talentless… when did you learn to do that?

May: I’ve always been…. Able to. I’ve just… never needed it…

(May suddenly loses consciousness, and falls back into her father's arms. Higs looks down at her, proud of her actions, and then looks back towards the fight.)

Higs: Beat this creep, Yuki.

(As Wisp tries to regain his balance, the smoke disperces. Bryan is set free, as he coughs and takes a long breath. Yuki disperces her dome, and Hitachi and Taro begin to run forward.)

Hitachi: Its now or never!

(Yuki and Bryan look towards Hitachi, and get a renewed drive to fight. Yuki charges towards Wisp. As Wisp notices, finally regaining control, he shoots a straight beam of smoke towards Yuki’s chest. At first, it seems he will hit her, but right before it makes contact, Yuki places Korace to the ground, and launches herself out of the way with a blast of Ice.)

Yuki: Thanks for the trick, I think it will come in handy!

Wisp: What-!?

(Wisp thinks back to when he dodged in a similar fashion before, but with his smoke. As he thinks about this, Bryan launches himself head first into Wisp’s side. Wisp cries out in pain, as a loud crack can be heard, as if the impact was hard enough to snap bones. As this happens, Yuki launches herself again, and flies towards Wisp’s stomach with both of her knees extended. She nails Wisp in the stomach with her knees, causing him to lurch forward in pain as Bryan falls back. As Yuki lands and backflips after launching herself, Hitachi finally arrives behind Wisp, kicking himself forward, and, while Wisp is bent forward, manages to stomp directly on Wisp’s back. Wisp finally passes out from the pain, and collapses in a mess in front of the four kids.)

Wisp: How…. the…. Hell?!?!

(He crashes down with a loud thud, as Hitachi lands on his his two feet. Bryan and Yuki shoot each other a confident smile, and the three fall on their asses, exhausted. Taro seems surprised.)

Yuki: Oh my god… I can’t believe we managed to pull that off...

Byran: It was so cool, though! When I came flying in, and then you shot yourself around like “Pew, pew!” and then Hitachi nailing him right in the spine! Man, I’m so hyped right now!!!

Hitachi: Honestly, it’s a miracle it worked out so well. We didn’t even practice...

(Taro seems lost.)

Taro: What… are you three talking about?

Bryan: Our first team attack!

Yuki: We came up with it back at the village. I think it’s pretty cheesy, but those two seemed pretty dead set on coming up with a strategy for fighting criminals.

(Hitachi stretches his neck while placing his arm there.)

Hitachi: I figured out a few ways to use our Talents in conjunction with each other. Usually, I would have smacked that guy with my sword, but I left it back in the forest path.

Taro: When did you guys form this team?

Bryan: About two or three days ago. Haha, I lost track!

(Yuki seems annoyed by Bryan’s stupidity, and Hitachi chuckles to himself. Taro seems dumbfounded.)

Taro: You guys are… incredible. (It took my team months to get something like that down… )

Yuki: Not really. I think we just get lucky is all.

(The scene ends with a shot of Wisp, defeated, and the four relaxing, celebrating their victory together. The next shot shows the four back at Hig’s cottage, A shot of May in bed, with flowers near her bedside, is shown before transitioning outside to the others. [ Note: Hitachi has his sword back, Taro is bandaged up.]  The sun is beginning to set in the background.)

Higs: I could never thank you guys enough, for all you’ve done for us.

Yuki: Don’t worry about it. I’m just glad May was ok, in the end.

Hitachi: So from what you told me, I think I’ve pieced together what happened.

(The others look towards Hitachi.)

Hitachi: The kid, May, she left here in order to find those flowers on her own. I don’t think it was her intention to use them on herself though. Higs, she was worried about you. She wanted to make you happy.
(Higs smiles warmly, looks back at his home.)

Higs: She's going to grow up to be a much better and stronger person then I could ever be… I’m so proud of her…

Hitachi: It was just luck, in the end, that I happened to run into her.

Yuki: I didn’t know you were good with kids, Hitachi.

Hitachi: Huh…?

Bryan: Yeah, we saw her hide behind you when that smoke guy showed up, she really trusted you!

Hitachi: I didn’t really do anything that would make her rely on me so much…

Higs: It’s your faces.

(The three looks at Higs confused. Taro smiles at them, half covering it with his scarf.)

Higs: You all have genuine smiles. I think she could tell that from the moment Yuki showed up.

Yuki: What?

Taro: I agree. You three are out of this world. I’ve never met a group so ready to jump in and take action before in my whole life… It’s truly inspiring.

Bryan: Haha, thanks guy I’ve never met!

(Taro seems confused by the statement.)

Taro: Oh… right, you were bickering with Fukagawa when I introduced myself. I’m Taro K., please to meet you.

Bryan: Well I’m Bryan, thanks for the help back there!

(Yuki and Hitachi laugh a bit, and the four wave goodbye to Higs as the walk back to the path together.)

Higs: Thank you, you guys! Yuki, I’ll repay your kindness one day, I swear to it!!

Yuki: Just take better care of May from now on!

(The scene switches to the four walking down the path, all chatting. Taro seems disturbed by something on his mind. Hitachi notices it, and stops the group.)

Hitachi: Hey, Taro. I think it’s time you told us what happened between you and that smoke guy. Where are Fukagawa and Lillian?

(Yuki and Bryan look at each other, and turn to face Taro.)

Taro: … They were captured by that smoke guy’s band of thugs. He was just one of many…

(The three seem shocked.)

Hitachi: What? There’s more of them!?

Bryan: How long have they been captured for!? We need to go help them right away!

Taro: I… don’t know if we can. They are all insanely strong, you saw that last guy…

(Yuki walks over and places her hand on Taro’s shoulder, to his surprise.)

Yuki: We are going. Right now. The longer we wait, the worse their situation gets. Lead us to them.

(Taro seems surprised, and then a determined smile grows on his face.)

Taro: I really like you guys. Once all of this blows over, I’ll have to have you all over my place someday.

(The chapter end on a shot Taro, smiling towards the camera.)

Chapter 9 "Captive"

Spoiler

Chapter 9 “Captive”

(The chapter opens on a shot of a small, concrete building in the middle of the forest. It has cracks riding along its walls, with vines starting to grow around its sides, as if suffocating the building itself. Small windows, just cut out holes with rusty iron bars, are the only view to the inside, the camera sweeps past them, showing a shot of Fukagawa and Lillian, tied back to back, with their mouths shut closed roughly with rope. They are towards the back of the building. Fukagawa’s glasses are cracked, and Lillian is unconscious. Fukagawa looks up towards the window, the only source of sunlight, and breaks a desperate smirk.)

Fukagawa: (I really… *censored*ed up this time, huh?)

(Towards the front of the building, you could say the main hall, about twenty thugs are scampering around, some rough housing, some eating, and some laying around, lazily and carefree. Towards the back of the hall, a shot of a man can be seen wielding an iron bat, with multiple dents. His hair is short and dark brown, but wavey. He isn’t wearing a shirt, but is wearing dark blue jeans and black boots, with two belts making an X on his waist. His back is to the camera, and when a thud is heard towards the front of the hall, he turns to it, revealing multiple stab wounds and scars across his bare chest. The man’s name, Draker.)

Draker: Hey! Dumbasses! Break anything else, and I’ll bash your skulls in, hear me?!

(From the crowd, a much taller man, slightly older, is seen walking towards Draker. He is wearing a long, black trench coat, despite being indoors. His blonde hair is slicked back and to the side, and his eyes seems narrow and sharp. He has two falchion styled swords strapped to his back in an X pattern. This man’s name, Maverick. [ NOTE to artists: All other thugs are irrelevant to the story, so you may design them however you please.] )

Maverick: Draker. May I have a word with you?

Draker: Hmm?

(Draker grabs a slice of pizza from a nearby table, the table has a thug passes out over it.)

Draker: Whatcha need, Maverick?

Maverick: Do you think Wisp is alright? He’s been out for a few hours now. I don’t think that boy would have been able to take him out, but…

(Draker laughs, his mouth full.)

Draker: Don’t worry about smoky breath, he’s probably off somewhere *censored*ing around.

Maverick: … Alright. If you say so. Also…

Draker: What now? The kids we have?

Maverick: Yes. What do you plan on doing with them?

Draker: Simple. We put them out on the market for a week. If no one takes the bait, we slit their throats and toss them out back to mother nature.

Maverick: I see. Well, let’s try not to be as messy as last time. You tend to play with your food a little too much.

(Draker laughs hysterically, a full body shot is shown, him waving his pizza around, cockily staring down Maverick.)

Draker: Please, It wasn’t that bad! Besides, their heads were good batting practice!

(A much louder thud is heard from the other end, this time a stray light from outside is seen, as the main hall doors have swung open. Maverick and Draker look towards the doors, concerned.)

Draker: Hey, doors are hard to come by way out here, stop *censored*ing around, you useless-

(Draker shuts up when he sees whos at the door. Maverick has a similar reaction, and the two look at each other, worried.)

Maverick: Did we have a check up scheduled?

Draker: No… we didn’t.

(The thugs closest to the doorway panic, and most run away besides one. The figure in the doorway can’t be seen. The thug walks over confidently, and bends down to mock the person, who is seemingly much smaller then he is.)

Thug: Heh! Ain’t you precious! We supposed to be scared of a little tike like you?

??? (The girl): Are you supposed to be the new doorman?

Thug: H-Huh? No?

??? (The girl): Then move!

(A child’s hand is raised from the doorway, and a sudden shock wave sends the thug, now unconscious, packing to the back of the room. His body creates a large crater in the wall, with blood trailing as his now lifeless body slides to the floor. Draker seems angry, and he turns to the door. The thugs have now cleared a path for the newcomers. A small child, a young girl, about 10 years of age, has her hand extended, smiling as if nothing gruesome just occured. Her glare seems off, almost sadistic, and she giggles to herself. The girl is wearing somewhat casual city clothes, with a small white fur coat over it. Some of the thugs blood staines her coat. She has light pink, short and messy hair. Behind her, now walking into the open space of the hall, is an older man, about in his 50’s, taking confident steps towards Draker. He is wearing an all black business suit, a white undershirt, with a matching bowler hat on his head. He has long, dark red bangs coming from under the hat. He is walking towards Draker with a soft smile on his face. He is using a fancy, expensive looking cane, and with every tap to the ground, a loud, unnerving thud is heard. The girl trails behind him, her smile unwavering. She is skipping along side him as the thugs watch in horror. Draker braces himself, gripping his bat tight while it’s over his shoulder. When the man reachers Draker, Draker attempts to move his bat down. The man’s smile widens. He takes his cane, and tosses it a bit in the air, catching the base of it. He then uses the handle to rapidly smack Draker’s bat to the ground, smack Draker in the gut, and then pin him, by his throat, to the wall near the crater, all with one hand. The girl claps. The man’s name is Fields, the girl’s is Rachel.)

Fields: Ah, Draker! It’s been too long! How goes things?

(Draker puts his hands to the cane, gripping them with all his might, but is still unable to budge it an inch.)

Fields: It seems a bit disorganized in here at the moment. A bad time, perhaps?

Rachel: Hehe! Hey, Mr. Fields! Look at the men back there!

(Fields looks behind him, and the thugs seem to be cowering in fear of the two.)

Fields: Hmm, good observation Ms. Rachel.

(Fields removes his cane from Draker, and points to the deceased thug to their right.)

Fields: Now there’s one with some spunk! Though, I doubt he knew what he was getting himself into.

(Fields turns to the cowering thugs in the hall.)

Fields: If you cannot handle the sight of a little rough housing, I would recommend a different line of work. Please, we’ve left the door wide open. Go ahead and walk out, we won’t go after you. You have a gentleman’s word.

(The hall is dead silent, until a handful of thugs run for the door, making it out and getting away. Fields chuckles.)

Fields: For those that stayed, you’ll be receiving a raise...

(Fields turns to Draker, who is catching his breath.)

Fields: Right out of Draker’s payroll.

(Draker is still catching his breath, as Fields smacks him, with tremendous strength, to the his knees, using his cane on Draker’s shoulder.)

Fields: I know this isn’t a routine check in, so I’ll let the disorder here slide. For now.

Draker: What… The hell do you want, Fields?!

Fields: It’s not what I want. You see, the Misses is making one final count of her assets before making a rather bold play. Now then, what has your troop earned since our last visit?

(Draker looks at the ground, embarrassed.)

Fields: Hmm? Don’t feel like talking right now, little Draker? Or perhaps…

(Fields moves unsettlingly close to Drakers ear.)

Fields: You’ve been wasting all of the Mafia’s funds again?

(Draker seems terrified, but then Fields eases up and laughs, somewhat sophisticatedly.)

Fields: No worries, young one! You always come through for us. I’ll just mark your total down as…

(When the number is said, Maverick and Draker seem mortified.)

Fields: One Million.

Rachel: Oohhh, thats a big number!

(Fields releases his hold on Draker’s shoulder, and places his cane at his side.)

Fields: Why, yes, it is. I’m sure they can muster it up before the deadline.

Rachel: Wow, really? Then they must be really good!

(Maverick looks to Draker, and Draker is gripping his hands in fists, still on the ground in shame.)

Fields: Well, we must carry on with our check in’s. I do hope you can manage without our assistance. Don’t be afraid to call us if necessary. We are all family, afterall.

(The two walk to the door, the thugs still scared out of their minds. Draker looks towards them, holding his shoulder.)

Draker: To hell with you and Sither, your all a bunch of scummy bastards!

(Fields stops in the middle of the hall. He does not turn to face Draker, or the reader.)

Fields: You will refer to the misses by her codename, Grim Reaper. If I hear her name come off your tongue again, I will personally rip it out myself.

(Fields continues as Draker looks even more pissed.)

Draker: How long is that damn deadline!?

(Fields and Rachel stop at the doorway. Rachel turns around completely, in a playful manner, and Fields turns his head only.)

Fields: You have three days. Don’t disappoint us.

(The doors close, and the hall is silent. After a bit, Draker slams his fists on the ground, in a rage.)

Draker: Damn it all!!! Those bastards know we can’t come up with that money!

Maverick: It seems like they might be trying to get rid of our little division. Though I wouldn’t blame them.

(Draker gets up, and cracks his knuckles.)

Draker: I don’t give a damn, they can all go to hell!

(Maverick sighs.)

Maverick: I can see what I can muster up, but it won’t be anywhere close to a million. Perhaps those kids in the back will help?

Draker: Please, selling them off wouldn’t break five thousand...

Maverick: That’s not what I meant. They seem capable. Have them work on our behalf, then when their done, we can do away with them.

(Draker seems pleased by the idea, and regains his smirk.)

Draker: I see, not a bad plan. Though it would still be close, and we’d have to waste time keeping an eye on them…

Maverick: They seem organized, though. We should be weary of them as they work. Let us go and speak with them, time isn’t exactly on our side.

(The two start to walk to the back room, leaving the main hall to go and talk with Fukagawa and Lillian. The scene switches to Yuki, Bryan, Hitachi, and Taro, running towards the thug’s hideout.)

Yuki: So, let me get this straight. You guys found the hideout of the thugs that have been wreaking havoc in this forest for years, and your first response was to take it on yourselves!?

Taro: Fukagawa’s idea, not mine. But I couldn’t just leave him to the wolves, so I went along with it.

Hitachi: So Lillian and Fukagawa were caught, then what?

Taro: I tried to run for help, either you or Jess, but that smoke guy caught up to me.

(Bryan seems mad.)

Bryan: These thugs are really pissing me off! How dare they run around and act like this forest belongs to them!

Yuki: I’m more concerned that the villagers never did anything to stop them. There's more to this… I can feel it.

Hitachi: We can start to ask questions once the other two are safe. And for the love of god, we need to start working together from here on out, Taro. No running while our backs are turned!

Taro: I agree. I think Fukagawa got the wrong idea before. He can be a little egotistical at times.

Yuki: Really? I never noticed.

Bryan: How did you guys get caught anyways? You guys seemed strong back at the village!

Taro: Well, we had a plan…

(The story now flips to a flash back, showing Taro, Lillain, and Fukagawa, with a box saying “Earlier in the day…” They are walking in the forest, discussing things.)

Fukagawa: Working with another team, Phaa! What rubish!

Taro: I don’t see what the issue is. They seemed capable.

(Fukagawa fixes his glasses, in disgust.)

Fukagawa: They were complete rookies! I bet they don’t even know how to use their C.R.O.W’s properly!

Lillain: I think your being a bit harsh on them, Fukie, you could have at least taught them some things if they were new…

Fukagawa: And waste our precious time? I think not!

(Taro suddenly perks up.)

Taro: Guys, fall back.

(The three dash to the sidelines, hiding in the foliage.)

Fukagawa: What’s up, Taro? Spot something?

Lillian: More thugs?

(Taro’s eyes are closed, and he is listening to the area around them.)

Taro: I hear movement. A few feet from here. A lot of it. I think we might be getting close to a building of some kind, but Taro is still a ways out.

(Fukagawa and Lillian look to each other.)

Fukagawa: Let’s scout the area out.

(The scene switches to the three expertly surveying the area. Taro is leaping from tree to tree, looking around below, Lillian is looking closely for tracks on the path, and Fukagawa has hid cape’s hoodie on, like a cloak, and he is sticking to the darkness of the forest. He edges against a tree, and looks towards the Concrete building, the Thug’s hideout. He pulls out his C.R.O.W and tells the others to meet him. Once they are together, they sit in the forest, and plan their attack.)

Taro: There's a lot of movement in there. More than ten people. Attacking could be risky. Maybe fall back for now?

Fukagawa: Not an option. We just found a gold mine! If we take this place down, we’ll be heros!

Lillian: I agree with Taro though, this could be dangerous, even for us…

Fukagawa: Don’t worry, Lilly. I’ve got a plan. Taro, I want you to stay back, incase we mess up. But here’s what I’m thinking.

(Fukagawa draws out his plan in the dirt with a small branch.)

Fukagawa: We attack from the outside. I’ll summon a barrier around the building, and Lillian can fill it with her explosive fire. The heat will cause them to knock unconscious, and if that doesn't work, at least the blasts will cause the building to collapse. Even if that doesn't take them all  out, we can handle a few in hand to hand combat.

Taro: Hmm… it’s not a bad plan, but I still think we’re in over our heads. Why not contact the other team?

Fukagawa: Because then they’d also get credit! Jeez, don’t you ever think, Taro?
Taro: Sorry, Captain. Just doing my job…

Fukagawa: And what job is that?

Taro: Babysitting your dumbass.

(Fukagawa’s eye twitches, as Lillian laughs. They get into position, ready to attack the hideout. Then, as Fukagawa is creating the barrier, Maverick’s silhouette can be seen behind him, right before knocking him unconscious. Lillian panics, and starts to back up, when Wisp appears behind her, smacking her to the ground with a powerful gust of gas. She slams onto the ground, and before she can blast him with fire, he encapsulates her in a dome of gas. Taro also panics.)

Taro: Oh my god… This is bad!

(Wisp looks towards Taro, and he proceeds to chase him into the forest as Maverick cleans up the other two. The flash back ends, and Yuki seems annoyed.)

Yuki: You guys really got yourselves caught that easily?

Taro: Fukagawa actually did something else, but I decided to leave that out of the story, for his sake.

Bryan: What? Comeon, you can’t skip out on details!

Taro: Well…

(The flashback repeats the end part, but instead of Fukagawa creating a barrier, He kicks down the door, shouting at the thugs inside.)

Fukagawa: Your end is nigh, evil doers! The great Reihei Fukagawa will put an end to your reign of terror!

(Lillian is providing a small fire in order to get Fukagawa’s cape to wave in the wind. Taro smacks his forehead from the trees.)

Taro: These… Morons!!!

(The flashback ends again, and the three seem completely dumbfounded by Fukagawa’s stupidity.)

Taro: Yeah… when I said he was a little egotistical… I ment he was very much so. He has a bit of a problem when it comes to sticking to a plan… even if he makes it.

Yuki: This kid… doesn't deserve to be saved…

Hitachi: He seems like a real pleasant captain...

Bryan: Speaking of which, I still nominate myself as our team leader!

Yuki and Hitachi: No!

(The scene switches back to the hideout, where Draker is speaking with Fukagawa and Lillian, with Maverick also in the room.)

Draker: I’ll say it one more time you little *censored*. If you don’t work for us, I’ll kill you right here, right now.

(Draker puts his bat to Fukagawa’s forehead, which seems to already have been struck several times. Lillian is holding back tears.)

Fukagawa: I don’t think you get it, pal. I don’t give a damn what you do to me. If you kill me, a member of the Fukagawa family is on your hands. I don’t think you want that.

(Maverick perks up at the name, but Draker doesn't.)

Draker: The hell if I care!

(Drake full on bashes Fukagawa in the head with his bat, causing blood to fly everywhere. Fukagawa is still conscious though, staring up at Draker, as he struggles to lift his head.)

Lillian: Fukie… This is just stupid! Just listen to him, please!

Fukagawa: Like hell… am I taking orders from scum like him.

(Draker gets pissed.)

Draker: What did you call me, you little *censored*!

(Draker goes to hit Fukagawa again, but Maverick rushes in and stops the bat with one of his swords.)

Draker: …?

(Draker stares at Maverick, confused.)

Maverick: Draker, You have no idea about the Fukagawa family, do you?

Draker: No, why?

Maverick: Let’s just put it this way. Would you smack Rachel over the head, knowing full well who her mother is?

Draker: Wha-?

(Draker pauses, and then backs away.)

Draker: No way, are you telling me this little *censored* is apart of another mafia?

Maverick: Not quite. It’s a bit more legal than out group, think of it as a big corporate organization. Judging by his age, he’s probably the chairmen’s kid or something. But attacking him wouldn’t just piss his family off, I can imagine Grim has ties to his family as well, probably some sort of investment.

Draker: I see… so we need him alive… Wait.

(Draker seems please by the situation.)

Draker: A big corporate organization, huh?

(Draker turns towards Fukagawa, who is breathing deeply, trying not to pass out.)

Draker: I can probably get a lot of money out of you, brat! How much do you think Daddy would cough up if I put a ransom on your head?

(Fukagawa shakes at the thought, his eyes widen.)

Fukagawa: No, you wouldn’t dare! The balls you would need to have to put a gun to my head in exchange for money-!

Draker: Hehe! Turns out we need a bit of cash right now. You came at the right time! Maverick, get these two some food. We’ll need them alive.

(Maverick sighs.)

Maverick: Right.

(Draker leaves, and Maverick looks down at the two.)

Maverick: Your lucky. Normally, he would have killed both of you, just to spite me.

(Fukagawa and Lillian look at Maverick.)

Maverick: Hurting kids isn’t really my style. I’ll get you guys something to eat and wash up with. But don’t piss Draker off again, he has a short temper.

(Maverick leaves the room, as Fukagawa leans forward, exhausted.)

Lillian: Fukie!

Fukagawa: I’m fine… I just hope Taro made it out of the forest ok...

(Lillian seems surprised.)

Lillian: I’m sure he got away. Maybe he found the other team for back up?

Fukagawa: I hope not. I don’t want anyone else getting hurt because of my dumbass plan...

(Lillian smiles softly.)

Lillian: You mean well... That’s what matters, I think.

(Fukagawa looks over, annoyed.)

Fukagawa: “You think”?

Lillian: Haha! I’m not really good at all the deep, emotional stuff!

(Fukagawa sighs, then chuckles to himself while Lillian giggles.)

Fukagawa: We’ll be fine, I know it. So don’t worry.

(Lillian stops laughing, and looks to the ground.)

Lillian: I hope so.

(The scene switches to the main hall, Draker telling everyone about the news.)

Draker: One Million? Ha! We could ask for Ten Million! We’ll upgrade, hell, even take over the family with this catch!

(The thugs cheer, as Maverick looks at him, annoyed. Maverick is prepping things for Fukagawa and Lillian. As the thugs applaud Draker, the doors swing open again. This time, a defeated Wisp is at the door, and he collapses to his knees as soon as he steps in. Draker looks over at him as thugs run to help him up.)

Draker: Wisp!? What the-

Wisp: Draker… There's more.

Draker: More? More what?

Wisp: More rookies, at least that’s what they looked like.

Draker: What the hell? Why is the place just crawling with them all of a sudden?

Wisp: Not a clue, but they are no joke. There’s about four, maybe five more. I assume the ones from before were one party, and these new ones are a seperate one. I expect them to come by soon to try to help the others.

Draker: I see…
(Draker laughs to himself.)

Draker: Well, let’s start to roll out the carpet for them!

(Wisp and Maverick seem confused.)

(The chapter closes on a cocky Draker, tapping his bat on his shoulder, looking at the camera as the thugs grin and laugh around him.)

Draker: There’s been enough distractions for one day, I think we should show the forest who’s in charge, finally.

Chapter 10 "Free the Forest!!!"

Spoiler

Chapter 10 “Free The Forest!!!” START

(The chapter opens on a shot of the village Yuki and Co. visited after their first adventure, when they captured the thugs who attacked Yuki’s mansion. A shot of some children playing is seen in front of the village entrance. They are playing with some sticks, pretend sword fighting, when a shadow suddenly looms over them. They look to the entrance, and Draker, who looks noticeably younger, perhaps Hitachi’s age, is looming over them. He is wearing shoddy looking sunglasses, and a leather jacket, with his signature X patterned belts wrapped around his chest. He bends forward towards the kids, who seem clueless.)

Draker: Why, hello there, twerps. Whatcha got there?

Kid 1: Oh, Drake! We’re practicing!

Draker: Practicing, huh? What for?

(Draker takes off his glasses, and slides them on his collar. He has a laid back, but arrogant feel to him, strictly juvenile. Draker looks somewhat interested. From behind him, a nerdy looking boy appears, a younger Maverick, looking completely different to his older counterpart. He is wearing a button up, white collar shirt, tucked into neatly kept khaki pants. His hair is still slicked back, giving away who he is to the reader.)

Maverick: Ugh, you kids. Why don’t you go help your parents around the house?

Kid 2: We can’t! We gotta be ready to join the new school!

(The teens look at each other in confusion.)

Draker: We ain’t got no new school, the hell you two talking about?

Kid 1: It’s the one in da’ big city!

Maverick: Hmm. I heard something like that was going on. The elder brought it up.

Draker: Ok, so why exactly do you need to fight each other like your in pre-school?

Kid 2: I heard the school is all about teaching you to use your Talents!

Kid 1: Yeah, fightin’ bad guys and stuff!

(Draker’s eyes perk up with curiosity, but he pretends not to care.)

Draker: Sounds lame.
(He continues to walk on by, as Maverick chuckles to himself.)

Maverick: It sure sounds interesting. Though I’m more interested in my studies. You two be careful not to hurt yourselves.

(The kids nod, and as Kid 2 does, Kid 1 gets a cheap shot over his head, causing 1 to laugh, and 2 to shout at him. Maverick follows Draker to their cottage. Inside, waiting for them, is a younger Wisp, using a blue doctors mask to cover his mouth. Smoke is still seeping from it from under the mask, but he looks much more healthier then in the present time.)

Wisp: Bout’ time you two showed up. We got a lot to do.

Draker: Yeah, yeah!

(Draker takes a seat at a table in the middle of the living room [ The cottage is relatively small, a kitchen, living room, a few bedrooms.] Wisp seems irritated by his choice to ignore him. Maverick walks in after, waving.)

Wisp: Listen, we don’t got all day.

(Draker looks up at the ceiling, and groans.)

Draker: Do we have to?

Maverick: It is our turn this week. We should start right away, then we have the night to ourselves.

(Draker grabs a cigarette from his pocket, and his lighter. He begins to start lighting it, before Wisp snatches it and slams it down on the table.)

Wisp: Please, you know that those are bad for you!

Draker: Like your one to talk.

Maverick: I think forcefully inserting smoke into your lungs compared to naturally exhaling it are two seperate things…

(Wisp sighs, picking up some kind of gloves and a bucket.)

Wisp: Get your things, guys.

(Draker takes his neck and stretches it a bit, sighing. As they leave, a shot of the table, is shown, where the lighter glistens in the light from the open door. The scene switches to a shot of the field of flowers from the May incident. The three teens are staring out, they are carrying water buckets, plenty of them. They are also wearing gardening gloves.)

Maverick: Now don’t over water them this time, Drake. I don’t want to have to fetch more buckets.

Draker: You guys are the ones who use too much…

Wisp: Shut up and get started already!

(A few panels, perhaps a page, of the three going from patch to patch, watering the flowers. Eventually, the sun begins to set, and the three are wiping sweat from their foreheads, sitting in a huddle at the edge of the field, looking at their hard work.)
Draker: Man, why can’t the adults do all of this work?

Maverick: Because they are all busy doing real work.

(Wisp looks over his shoulder, the shot still showing mainly Draker and Maverick. Wisp drops an empty bucket.)

Draker: Whoa, your arm give out buddy? Heh!

(The two turn to see what Wisp does, and, at first, a strange expression fits their faces, as if they do not believe what they are seeing. Then, as smog and ash starts to creep onto the panels, a shot of each of their faces is shown [ Each a separate panel.] They are staring in pure shock and horror. Then, a full page showing the three standing, facing the forest, which is now up in flames. [Place the title of the chapter on this page.] )

(Next, a shot of the three running to their village, in a desperate sprint for survival. After a few panels of them running, a few shots of Hig’s cabin is shown, a shot of him and his wife sitting in the cabin, watching from the window, gathering their things. The shot returns to the three hoping over falling branches and infernos roaring at their feet. Eventually, they return to the village entrance, the sticks the kids were using are left on the ground. They step over them, and start to shout, inaudible to the reader. Then, a shot of the village chief, Kuro is seen, running up to the kids. He looks scared, but hugs the three, happy to see them. The three all seem to be discussing the situation, and then a view of some villagers is shown, looking directly at them. They seem angry, as the homes behind them burn to the ground. Kuro turns to them, attempting to calm them down, but they start to riot, pushing past him, and they gun it for the three teens. The horror on the three’s faces is one of a tragic mess, as they turn in the other direction, running out of their village, their home. The panels fade to black as their backs face the shot, running into the burning forest.)

(The next scene shows the three sitting around a campfire, at the dead of night. The shot opens on that fire, with Draker with his head in his hands. The other two seem concerned. The panel has a box that reads [ Later that night. The fires were stopped due to the combined effort of newly inducted rookies.] )

Wisp: Hey… Draker? Are you going to be ok?

Draker: Ok?

(He lifts his head up, his eyes are shadowed out.)

Draker: How would I ever be ok?

Maverick: Listen, we know their wrong! All you have to do is talk-

Draker: Shut Up!

(The other two seem shocked at his sudden rage. Draker’s face is now visible. He has tears streaming down his face, and snot running down his nose. He is devastated.)

Draker: I started a fire because I smoke? Don’t make me laugh! I- I wasn’t even home, those ungrateful bastards!!! All I ever did was help them, and this is how they treat me!?

(The other two look at the ground, in disappointment, but understanding their friend’s displeasure.)

Draker: I lost everything too! I lost my Home! I lost my friends! Why the hell am I in hot *censored*!?

(The scene starts to fade, as a shot of a figure is watching from the forest around them. The next shot shows the three are along a river, Draker is tossing up his shades, for entertainment, laying on his back. Maverick is counting their food and supplies, and Wisp is spearing fish with his Talent. The panel’s box says [ One Week Later…] Draker sighs, he gets up into a sitting position.)

Draker: When the hell are we cooking again? I’m starving.

Wisp: As soon as I get enough to eat, moron. You know, ya could help.

Draker: Screw off.

Maverick: Both of you, shut it already. You’ve been going at it like that all week.

(The three are talking, and a shot from the trees is shown, with the silhouetted figure still stocking them. The figure gets a wicked grin, and then starts to move up on them. The first to notice is Maverick, who looks kind of surprised. Then the others turn.)

Maverick: *censored*, did they find us?!

Draker: Already!?

Wisp: Guys, book it- wait… Who is he?

(A shot of a sharply dressed man, slightly older than them [19 to 21] appears before them. He is wearing a light brown fedora, keeping down his dark brown, matted hair. He has a bit of a scruff growing on his chin. His eyes a bit sullen, but have a sly undertone. He is wearing a blue t shirt, with a fancy black jacket over it. He has slick, black pants on, with a gold chain on his belt, hanging down a bit. He looks at the boys with a slick smile.)

???: Sup! You three look like you’ve seen better days.

Draker: Don’t come any closer, weirdo. Who the hell just walks up to a group of kids in the woods?

???: Whoa, whoa! No need to be so hostile! I’m just passing by.

(The three look at each other.)

???: Well, that's not true. I’ll cut to the chase, you three seem like you’ve got no place to go, am I right?

(Draker gets up, and gets in the mans face.)

Draker: Hey, how the hell did you know that?

Maverick: Have you been following us!?

???: Something like that, yeah. Say, would you three be in need of some easy cash?

Wisp: This sounds sketchy as all hell. Back off, dude.

???: Oh? Then you guys prefer fishing for every meal?

(Again, the three look at each other, this time embarrassed.)

Draker: Yeah, well… maybe we do!
(It’s now the man’s turn to take a step forward, he leans in on Draker, who is surprised and staggers back a bit. The man smiles smoothly, as he stares down at Draker, who he is towering over.)

???: Please, don’t lie to me. See, my Talent lets me pinpoint the truth.

Draker: What- the hell? No way dude, your full of crap!

Maverick: Obviously no one likes eating fish all day, he’s just trying to creep you out Drake.

???: Oh, am I? Tell me a fact, I’ll tell you whether it’s true, or false.

(The man steps back, placing his hand on his hat, smiling cheekily, as if this was some sort of game.)

Wisp: This dude is seriously giving me the wrong vibes…

???: True. You are unsure whether to pull a weapon on me yet or not.

(Wisp seems stunned, and the others see his reaction.)

???: The last bit was just clever deduction, force of habit. Anywho, next!

Maverick: Alright, my favorite color is green.

???: False, judging by the people you hang with, it’s black.

(Maverick seems stunned as well. Draker gets irritated.)

Draker: Oh yeah? Me and my friends water flowers!

???: False, of course.

Draker: Ha! You lost, you lying son of a bitch! We do every week!

Wisp: (I wouldn’t brag about that… but ok?)

(The man’s smile twists to something more sinister.)

???: Really? Because I think your lying to yourself, kid.

Draker: Huh? What was that?

(A sudden malicious aura appears to be emitting from the man.)

???: You used to water flowers. Now you can’t go anywhere near them, in fear you’ll be hung for a crime you never even committed. Shame, isn’t? That you can never see your loved ones again, or they’ll shoot you dead, in cold blood, for falsely based revenge? I wonder what you’ll do? Maybe you’ll take your life out of pure self pity, or maybe you’ll take your own falsy based revenge on those who chased you out of your home!

(Draker has no words. His eyes seem to be somewhat faded out, as he drops to his knees, shaking.)

Draker: Who… the hell are you?

???: Me? Call me Lyall, I’m a member of a pretty big family. You three look like you could use one right about now. How’s about it, champ?

(Draker looks up at Lyall, who is extending his hand out to pick the boy back up. Maverick and Wisp also seem scared. A final shot is shown of Draker, who is staring at the outreaching hand.)

(The scene is now present day, a box explaining it, [ Present Day ] . A shot is shown of Yuki, Bryan, Hitachi, and Taro still running to the hideout. As they run, they see two figures approaching from a few feet ahead.)

Bryan: Whoa, the forest is real popular recently, huh?

(The four stop in front of the two figures, who appear to by Rachel and Fields, on their way back to Taoru.)

Hitachi: Excuse me, do you have a second?

(Fields seems surprised that Hitachi spoke to him, but he smiles kindly, with Rachel looking in curiosity at the four kids. She is hiding behind Fields, as if she's scared.)

Fields: Hmm? I suppose I could lend a few minutes of my time. What is it, young one?

Hitachi: Are you familiar with these woods?

Fields: You could say that.

Taro: Perhaps your familiar with the thugs from around here? Specifically, their hideout? We need to head there, as soon as possible.

(Fields seems thrown off that they mentioned their destination so bluntly.)

Fields: Thugs? You kids aren't heading there, are you? That's rather bold of you.

(Bryan steps up, looking determined.)

Bryan: They have our friends. We can’t wait another second, so please, tell us everything you know!

Fields: A rather rowdy bunch, the lot of you…

(Rachel peeks from behind Fields, and Yuki smiles and waves softly. Rachel smiles shyly, and moves back.)

Fields: If you keep heading the way you are, you’ll head straight there. Still, you should report this to local Students or authorities.

Bryan: Don’t worry about us, we’re a Rookie Party! We may not be students yet, but we’re gonna be!

(Fields looks surpised at this as well.)

Fields: Hmm. Interesting. You all seem fairly capable. Alright, tell you what. I’ll go call the authorities, and you can go and rough them up until proper help can show up.

(Hitachi looks at Yuki, who shoots him a concerned look.)

Bryan: Awesome, thank you! Come on guys!

(Bryan breaks out into a full sprint again, Taro and Hitachi follow.)

Yuki: Ugh, this sucks. Um, thank you, sir!

(Yuki waves as she catches up. Fields watches them go. Rachel looks up at him, dropping the facade.)

Rachel: You really sent them straight there, huh Mr. Fields?

Fields: Well, I actually think this may be interesting. Let’s follow them.

Rachel: Huh!? But I’m hungry!

Fields: You can eat later. This should be a good way to gauge Draker’s leadership. Or, perhaps…

(Fields has a quick flash to the shot of all four of them, ready to fight.)

Fields: We may have some new upstarts to keep tabs on.

(The scene switches to the four finally arriving at the hideout. The area seems dead, with the doors shut, and no lights being emitted from the inside. The four stand outside the door, staring at it, ready to go.)

Hitachi: Alright, this the place Taro?

Taro: Yeah… It is.

(Taro eyes the forest around them.)

Taro: (It's too quiet. There weren't any thugs in the way, and I don't see anyone around here…)

(Tarps train of thought is broken by Hitachi, who starts to walk to the door)

Hitachi: Well, normally I’d say we need a plan…

Bryan: Heh, I think I know where your going with this one, Hitachi!

(Bryan and Hitachi walk up to the doors. Bryan prepares a full on strike, and Hitachi prepares his sword for a forward jab motion, pulling it back.)

Korace: Yuki… what are you guys doing!? This is really dangerous! You should just get out while you still-

(A shot of a determined Yuki, with a smile on her face is shown, from the perspective of Korace, who she is prepping.)

Korace: … I see. Your ok with this, then. Your really starting to get used to these kinds of scenarios.

(A final shot is shown of all four, before Hitachi and Bryan bust down the doors. The doors unhinged, and go flying a few feet, into the main hall. The four strut in confidently, but then freeze in the middle of the hall. They look around, confused.)

Bryan: Where… the hell is every one?

(Yuki looks back towards the doors, and Taro and Hitachi break off to look around. Bryan continues forward. Taro bends down, observing some junk food spilled on the floor. Hitachi looks at some half eaten pizza, near the back.)

Taro: They were here. For sure.

Hitachi: Recently, too.

Yuki: …?

(Bryan walks into the back hallway, and see’s the door to the room where Fukagawa and Lillian are held. He places his ear to the door, and then opens it. The room only contains Lillian, who has tears down her face, squirming, her mouth taped shut now.)

Bryan: W- whoa! Hey, hold on!

(A shot of the other three in the main hall discussing the strange circumstances is shown.)

Hitachi: They left in a hurry…

Yuki: Do you think they knew we were coming?

Taro: Doubt it, how would they have known?

(They think to themselves.)

Hitachi: That guy from the flower field, we left him there. Maybe…

Taro: Crap… it’s possible he came and warned everyone… Are we too late?

(Bryan comes from the back, Lillian leaning on him, and arm over his shoulder.)

Bryan: Guys, get out! Now!

(The other three turn, in shock, towards Bryan. Taro seems relieved to see Lillian is good shape.)

Taro: Lilly! Your ok!

(Lillian is scared of something, and she's in a rush.)

Lillain: Taro! Get out while you still can!

(The others seem confused, but then a commotion is heard from outside. A shot of all the thugs rushing from the forest around them is shown, heading for the front door. Draker and Maverick walk out from the back of the crowd. Wisp is leading the charge.)

Taro: No… your kidding me!?

Hitachi: *censored*… we were in such a rush… we didn’t even think to check!

(Wisp reaches the front door, and looks inside, a sizable band of thugs peering in, thirsty for blood, is shown behind him.)

Wisp: It’s not really my style, but we can’t afford to be wasting time on worms like you.

(He extends his hands, and smoke starts to rapidly fly from his mask. It is a thicker smoke then before, and it is filling the front of the hall rapidly. The crew panics, and starts to book it for the back.)

Wisp: Can’t run forever, I’m afraid. An open field may be a bit tough for me to control, but a closed space? Please… you signed your death wish the second you set foot inside.

(The crew manages to reach the back room where the two kidnapped kids were, and they lock themselves in. Yuki move to the door, and places Korace to the ground, creating an Ice wall to cover the door, so no smoke seeps in.)

Yuki: That should keep it out for now… we really *censored*ed this up…

(The crew seems upset with their current situation. Then Bryan, leaving Lillian to Taro, goes to the back wall.)

Bryan: Well, we can’t just sit here and wait for them to close in. Time for our counter attack!

(Bryan punches at the stone wall, causing his hand to bleed a bit. Hitachi pulls him back, upset.)

Hitachi: Hey, meat for brains! I know you like punching, but now isn’t the time!

Bryan: Help me make a new way out, snow head!

(Hitachi seems to suddenly get Bryan’s strategy, and then nods. He takes his sword, pushing Bryan back, and starts to slash at the wall.)

Yuki: You think you can break out through wall that thick?

Hitachi: This is nothing. You guys just stand back, and get ready. We don’t know what's on the other side.

(The others brace themselves. Korace speaks with Yuki again.)

Korace: You should be carefull. This seems like it will be a much bigger standoff then intended. I’ll lend you my strength, but try not to harm your allies in the crossfire.

(Yuki nods to herself, and Taro see’s her, confused.)

Taro: Just so you guys know, I specialize in quick takedowns. I throw a lot of knives, and I can do CQC. You?

(The others look at him.)

Bryan: I punch things! Really hard!

Yuki: I’m also good with close up encounters… I guess I can also handle crowd control with my ice…

Lillian: I can create fire! But you already know that, Taro.

(Yuki shoots Lillian a worried glance at the word “fire”, Hitachi then answers, still swinging.)

Hitachi: And I hit things. Really hard.

Taro: Alright. Now that we know that, try to work with each other as best you can. I know this is really sudden, but keep your heads on out there.

(Taro is now directing his talk to the main three.)

Taro: And for you rookies… if you need help, don’t hesitate. Me and Lilly have some experience with this kind of stuff. Just shout and we’ll come running to help as soon as we can, ok?

Yuki: Thanks but… I think we’ve got this.

Taro: Huh?

(Bryan and Hitachi look back, smirking.)

Taro: (Where did this confidence come from…?)

Yuki: We’ve been beaten before, I don’t think we’ll let that happen again so soon.

Bryan: We’re gonna kick their asses, and send them running right outta this forest!

(Hitachi makes one final swing towards the camera, with shots of all the crew ready to fight. A text box reads [ Finally, a true showdown! The Rookies V.S. Draker and his goons! ] )

[Chapter 11 Post for Vol 1]

Chapter 11 "One Final Test"
Spoiler

Chapter 11 “One Final Test”

(The chapter opens with the a shot of a figure running through the forest. The first shot is the empty forest, then thuds heard off in the distance. A shot of the person’s lower half jogging, and then a side view right before showing their face head on. The person is Jess, running with the file in hand, through the forest at top speed. Then, the scene switches to the outside of the Hideout, the backend, with thugs at the ready, as the back wall bursts open, and the rookies rushing out in a spectacular fashion. Bryan leads the charge as Hitachi still has his sword extended from breaking through the wall. Yuki and Lillian rush out behind Bryan, and Taro leaps out at full speed. First, a thug tosses some sort of flash-like beam at Bryan, who dodges and slams into the thug with his shoulder, toppling the thug over his comrades. Yuki and Lillian run around to the side of the building, where they start to slash at thugs with their blades as they run. Taro smacks into a thug while still in the air, twirling as he flies back, landing on his feet. He tosses a few stray knives to thin the herd, as Hitachi gets his bearings.)

Thugs: Over there, stop them!

Hitachi: A lot more than I expected…

Taro: Surprised they were able to get such a big following out here… I guess that's why they have such a hold on the forest though.

(Bryan goes for a machine gun punch to a thug, and then whips around and Haymakers another, before turning to Taro and Hitachi [For perspectivem, and the artist can add a panel displaying a map of this for reference, Yuki and Lillian are currently making their way to the front, and Taro, Hitachi, and Bryan are still in the back, fighting the thugs there. The only villain shown on the map at this point is Wisp, who is at the front of the hideout.] Bryan seems to be having fun.)

Bryan: Haha! Hey guys, join in, these guys are a bunch of small frys!

(One thug gets pissed, and tries to bring a sizable hammer down on Bryan. Bryan bends back a bit, and punches the Hammer back into the air, causing the wielder to fly back and onto their ass.)

Taro: Right. They probably just free load, and rely on their leader, a typical thing for these kinds of people.

Hitachi: Should be good practice.

(Hitachi dashes forward, swinging full force and knocking down a few thugs as he does. One thug throws little blasts of water at Taro, and before Taro is hit, he deflects them with one of his knives. Taro then bends down into a ninja like position, and as the thugs close in, he dashes around at breakneck speeds, smacking their vital points as he goes with the handle of the knife. Hitachi and Bryan watch in awe, as several Thugs who had closed in now fall to the ground, unconscious. A shot of Taro fixing his scarf is shown, as a text box reads [ Talent: Accuracy and Heightened Senses!! ] )

Taro: I guess I should be more specific. I specialize in the art of Assassination, though I prefer to be non-lethal if possible. All my Talent really does is heighten my perceptiveness a bit.

(Bryan runs over and starts to fanboy over him, as Hitachi watches in silence and shame.)

Bryan: Woah, that was so cool! And you don’t even kill them, that's so noble! Please, teach me some of that stuff sometime!

(Taro seems flustered, but flattered.)

Taro: S- Sure…

(A thug hits Hitachi with a pair of nunchucks, but Hitachi manages to block it in time with his free arm. Hitachi kicks the man back, and shouts at the crowd.)

Hitachi: Alright, we don’t got all day. Time to make quick work out of the lot of you.

(A female thug in the crowd is irritated, and rushes at Hitachi in a cheetah like fashion. She swings at him with claw like weapons, and Hitachi blocks it with his sword, pushing her back a few feet. The thug smirks as some more thugs begin to cover her flanks.)

Cheetah Thug: Sorry kid, but thinking we’re all pushovers is going to get you killed!

(Hitachi looks at them seriously, and plants his feet, waiting for their move. He notices that Taro and Bryan have moved on to fighting more towards the opposite end of where Yuki and Lillian went, and sighs.)

Hitachi: Well, looks like I’ll have to take you all out on my own.

(The scene switches to Taro and Bryan, who are running their way up the other side of the hideout, blowing threw thugs as they go. As they run, A blast of smoke breaks through the wall they are running along, separating the two. Taro makes it past, but it holds Bryan back, who jumps back and looks for Wisp. Taro keeps on running ahead. Wisp appears from the hole he made in the building, walking out to face Bryan.)

Wisp: To think you guys would have the balls to attack us so directly.

Bryan: Yeah, I prefer it this way, my style for sure!
(Wisp seems disgusted.)

Wisp: How can you be so happy right now!? Your a freak!

Bryan: Look whos talking, pal.

(Wisp gets mad, throwing a barrage of smoke whips from his mouth to attack Bryan. Bryan dodges and weaves, but can’t really get close to Wisp.)

Wisp: Thats rich, coming from the kid I nailed down the easiest before!

(Bryan seems ticked off by his last remark, and instead of dodging the next attack, takes one of the whips straight to the shoulder, and rushes in to punch Wisp. Wisp is almost caught off guard, but he blasts himself away just in time. When he gains his footing, Bryan is still bouncing in place, ready to fight.)

Bryan: Sorry, but you caught me off guard before. It won’t happen again.

Wisp: Likewise.

( The scene switches to Lillian and Yuki, arriving at the front of the hideout. The herd of thugs has dwindled significantly, as they are now spread all around the building trying to catch the rookies. Only a handful are in the front, Including Maverick. Lillian stops, and Yuki seems confused as to why.)

Lillian: Mister! You guys should just stop it now!

(Maverick sighs, and stares towards the sky as the thugs around him egg him on.)

Thugs: Come on, Mave! You can take them, their nothing!

(Maverick looks toward the girls, seemingly displeased.)

Maverick: I really didn’t want it to come to this, like I said, hurting kids isn't my style. I don’t have much of a choice, though.

(Maverick pulls his swords out, and beckons for the two girls.)

Maverick: Let’s at least have a fair fight, then. Win, and I’ll give your friend back.

(Lillian perks up.)

Lillian: So Fukie is still here!? Thank goodness!

Yuki: That’s good, at least.
(Yuki preps Korace, and Lillian swings her circular blade around in a playful rhythm, but she seems determined. Yuki runs at Maverick first, before reaching him, she blasts herself to the side, similar to the fight with Wisp, and tries to juke him out. Maverick stands completely still, and predicts her movements. He parrys her attack without taking a step, and Yuki seems shocked as she struggles to regain her footing as she lands from her attack. Lillian then takes her turn, running up with her blade at her side. She shoots fire at Maverick’s feet, who still doesn't move, and as the smoke from the blast clears, Lillian goes for an attack, a full swing, to his head, but again Maverick parrys her.)

Maverick: I’m sorry to say, but you’ll have to get a bit more creative against me. I may not look it, but I’ve studied up on all sorts of fighting strategies and techniques. For instance, the blond one just used one of Wisp’s moves.

(Yuki seems shocked he picked up on it.)

Maverick: And you, girl in the vest. It was a good trick to blind me with the blast, but you would have been better off just hitting me directly, then attacking.

(Lillian winces, and is a bit embarrassed. The two girls are on either side of Maverick, and they look at each other, and nod. Then, they jump at the same time to try and strike him. He parrys both at the same time easily, and sighs as they try to out power him, blade to blade. Maverick shakes his head. Thugs are hollering from the sidelines.)

Maverick: You two are amateurs. That was one of the oldest tricks in the book, come on!

(Maverick pushes both back at the same time. The two slide a bit before regaining their footing, again on either side. Yuki seems annoyed.)

Yuki: Your not invincible, stop acting all high and mighty!

(Lillian seems surprised as Yuki decides to attack him head on again. Maverick watches as Yuki gets directly in his range, and she prepares to dodge again, wisp style. Instead, at the last second, she whips her sword up and points at Maverick, preparing her iceberg attack.)

Yuki: Eat this!

(Maverick is caught off guard, and a shot of Lillian awestruck is shown instead of the outcome. Then, a shot of Maverick, who has taken a single step back, is shown, as he has pinned Korace to the ground with one sword, a blast of ice going straight through the dirt.)

Korace: Yuki! Move!

(Yuki seems dumbfounded that Maverick managed to still parry her.)
Maverick: That’s more like it.

(Maverick takes his leg that he moved back, and roundhouse kicks Yuki in the stomach, sending her flying on her back. Lillian goes running over to Yuki, but as she does, Maverick clashes with her as he turns to face her.)

Maverick: Don’t take your eyes off your opponent! It’s dishonorable!

(Lillian winces again as she tries to hold Maverick back as he towers over her with his two blades to hers. He slashes to his sides, pushing Lillian back as well. Yuki begins to get up as Maverick cracks his neck.)

Maverick: Come on, I’m right here. I’ve barely moved!

(The scene switches to Hitachi again, his sword planted into the ground, dusting his sleeves off. Several thugs, including the cheetah thug, are knocked out around him.)

Hitachi: Where do they find these guy? Honestly, I’m half their age!

(From behind him, leaning against the wall near the hole he made, Draker is watching the fight, His bat over his shoulders. Hitachi seems to just have realised his presence, ripping his sword out of the ground and pointing it towards him.)

Hitachi: When did you-!?

Draker: Don’t worry about it.

Hitachi: What, you better then them? Decide taking me on is a bad idea?

Draker: Not quite. I like saving the best for last.

(Hitachi seems confused.)

Hitachi: That's big talk coming from someone sitting on the sidelines.

Draker: Well, you can always see if I’m bluffing…

(Draker shoots Hitachi a wicked grin.)

Draker: Come on, you little *censored*. You had the nerve to bust my building up, least you can do is show me a good time!

(The scene then switches back to Bryan, who is swinging wildly towards the reader’s perspective. He is swinging at Wisp, who is dodging everything he throws at him. Wisp shoots a spear towards the ground, and as Byran dodges that, several smoke pillars blast out of the ground at his feet where he lands.)

Bryan: Crap!

(Some smoke blasts past him as he keeps dodging back. Wisp then stops the pillars, and fires a direct shot at Bryan. Bryan regains his stance, and in a fit of rage and adrenaline, punches the blast head on, causing the smoke to disperse and fade in the air around them in a corkscrew fashion. Wisp steps back, shocked.)

Wisp: How the hell!?

(Bryan’s fist seems bruised, a bit of blood dripping, but he has a stupid, determined grin on his face.)

Bryan: All you really do is blow out some really strong wind. Nothing I can’t handle!

Wisp: That’s… not it at all! My smoke can rot things, strangle, I manipulate it into whatever I want! I can crush you in seconds!!

(Bryan then grabs his headband with his bloody hand.)

Bryan: Go ahead and do it, then.

(Wisp gets triggered, and sucks in a lot of air around him, and then unleashes it in a big blast of air towards Bryan, a shout of sorts that rips his mask into shreds. His mouth is scarred up, as if his own Talent has rotted and hurt him. Bryan loses his footing, and trips as the blast heads straight for him. He eyes the attack as the blast heads right for him, and for a second a hint of regret is seen on his face, before he grits his teeth and smacks the ground with a good kick, just in time to dodge. He regains his footing, and continues his momentum as Wisp is still in a rage. Bryan moves in on Wisp, and lands a clean uppercut on him , closing his mouth, and even cracking a few of his teeth. Wisp falls back, unable to get up as his head is ringing from the punch. Smoke is slowly seeping from his now barely open mouth, as Bryan cracks the fist he just used.)

Byran: That should shut you up for a bit. Now, time to go help-

(A kunai whips past Bryan’s face, which catches him off guard, cutting him. The Kunai sticks to the wall, and a ninja thug, in a crow like attire, steps out of the woods.)

Crow Ninja: Seems I’ve missed my mark.
Bryan: Damn…! I forgot that there were a lot of people… I’m kinda hitting my limit too…

Crow Ninja: Prepare to die, fool!

(The ninja thug throws shurikens at Bryan, who tries to back up, but stumbles into the building instead, the tripping on his back manages to help him avoid the attack. He scrambles to his feet, and runs into the now vacant and rotted hall, with the ninja in hot pursuit. The scene switches to Hitachi’s jacket, flying past the camera into the air, as Hitachi flies back, as if he had just been blown back from an attack. He keeps his footing, but looks out of breath, and is actually in fairly bad shape.)

Hitachi: What the hell are you-!?

(Draker appears in the shot now, still with a *censored*eating grin, and he seems to be perfectly fine. He is swinging his bat around in one hand, twirling it mockingly.)

Draker: You seem to be having a hard time. Is that sword of yours for show, boy?

(Hitachi makes a desperate swing at Draker, who smiles at the challenge. Before the sword makes contact, Draker’s upper half seems to buff up dramatically, his belts expanding with him as his muscles contort and build up. He swings his bat in full force, and slams Hitachi’s sword right out of his hands, a shot of Hitachi’s sword wielding wrist stinging [Note to Artist: perhaps a small bolt in front of a black background near his wrist] as he staggers back. Draker goes back to normal, and laughs.)

Draker: What a shame, kid. You seemed to have a lot of spunk, too!

(Draker walks over to Hitachi, who is holding his wrist in pain. Hitachi looks up to see Draker preparing to smack him over the head, in his normal state.)

Draker: Night, punk!

(Then, from the woods behind the hideout, behind them, shouting can be heard.)

???: Battle Grid!

(Suddenly, the ground is filled with digital tiles, like a graph. Draker stops what he's doing, and looks towards the ground.)

Draker: Huh? What in the- ?

???: Possible Targets: 2. Possible Weak Points: 358. Calculating best possible course of action…

(Draker takes a step back, and Hitachi looks back, still in pain.)

???: Best Course Found. Chance of Success: 100%!

(Then, suddenly from the woods, a gun is shot, and the bullet hits Draker. Draker manages to buff up before the shot, so the bullet doesn't pierce him, but it leaves a sizable bruise and scar on his right shoulder. Hitachi struggles to get out of the way, kicking himself to the side. Then, Jess emerges from the woods, the grid still active. She has a small, old style revolver pointed directly at Draker. Draker eyes her, his eye twitching.)

Jess: Stand down, sir. Any move you make while in my line of sight will result in your death.

(Jess has an extremely serious expression, her gun unwavering. Hitachi seems shocked.)

Hitachi: J- Jess? Holy *censored*… when did you…?

(Jess answers, her eyes still on Draker.)

Jess: You guys left the file for your Request on the table. I wanted to get it to you before your arrival to Taoru. I don't know why or how you've got yourselves into this situation, but your lucky I was able to get here in time.

(Draker is seething, eyeing Jess will killer intent.)

Draker: Who the hell do you think you are, lady!?

(Jess confidently answers, the sun glares on her glasses as she responds. Hitachi’s jaw drops at her answer.)

Jess: I am a graduate of Dragon University. I have all the authority in the world to shoot you dead if you so much as sneeze in the wrong direction, so I suggest you keep quiet.

Hitachi: What? I thought you were just the village Chief's caretaker!

Jess: Not far off. My team parted ways a few years ago, so I take on easy Requests for some quick cash. Kuro's Request is that I help him manage the village, as he's getting fairly old.

Hitachi: Whoa, I never would have guessed you had such an incredible Talent…

Jess: This is why you're still a rookie. Never judge someone on their appearance, and…

(Jess seems upset as she says the rest.)

Jess:  My Talent is nothing, really. It's a drop in the bucket compared to-

(Suddenly, Draker grins, and bulks up as Jess loses her focus. He charges right for her, ready to smack her with his bat. She flinched, and fires a few rounds at him, but the bullets, again, bounce off of him. She dodges to the side, as Draker grabs her arm with his free hand. He crushes it with his now monstrous strength, causing Jess to drop her gun, as she wails in pain. Hitachi runs up and chops Draker’s neck from behind with his good hand. The attack doesn't even phase Draker. He laughs, letting go of Jess, and turns to Hitachi with a wicked grin. Hitachi stumbles back.)

Draker: Oh, you’ve really pissed me off now…

(Draker starts to buff up even more, towering even further above the two. Jess runs over to Hitachi, grabbing him by the collar with her good hand, and the two run to the side of the building, as Draker laughs maniacally.)

Draker: Hahaha! Try and run, damn field mice!

(Draker takes his bat, and slams into the ground with both arms, propelling himself forward toward the two as they run. Hitachi grabs his sword, which was lying on the ground, as they turn the corner, just in time for Draker to reach the turn. He grabs at the wall to slow his dash, taking a chunk of the concrete wall straight off, effortlessly. He skids to a stop, and instantly charges for them again. A close up of his face is shown, it seems he’s lost his sanity completely, as if he’s gone berserk. The scene switches to Maverick and the girls, still fighting at the front. Maverick has started to move with his parrys, the girls relentlessly slashing at him in quick, precise motions.)

Maverick: I’m liking the pacing, but let’s turn it up a notch!

(Maverick pins their swords down, and then spins to throw both to the ground. Yuki and Lillian fall to the ground again, but scramble to their feet almost immediately. Yuki seems to be breathing heavily, as if she’s tired. Lillian seems tired, but not as much. Yuki staggers in place a bit, before charging again. Lillian follows her lead.)

Maverick: Come on, impress me by stopping my next attack.

(Maverick extends his arms out to each of the advancing girls. He stands perfectly still as the girls approach him. The speed of them suddenly crawls to a near halt, as Maverick takes a long, deep breath. Then, the girls rush in at full speed, sending a flurry of slashes at Maverick, an all out storm. Maverick’s reaction time has seemed to double, as he not only parry’s the girls with perfect accuracy, but starts to punish them before they can get another hit in. Yuki would go in to attack his side, he would block her attack and jab her side with one hand, still gripping the sword, and still parrying Lillian. Lillian would try and trip him, but she would get blocked as well, and Maverick would knee her in the stomach. After a few panels of these blows, Yuki stumbles back, and onto her back, out of breath. Lillian gets blown back by Maverick punching her in the face after another failed swing. Yuki has her eyes barely open, staring at the sky as her vision is blurry. Maverick stares down at her as Lillain tries to recollect herself in the background.)

Maverick: Hit your limit? We can call it here, I don’t want to have to work you girls to death now. It’s clear that I’m leagues ahead-

(Yuki slams the ground with a clenched fist, startling both Lillian and Maverick.)

Yuki: You… Don’t get to decide that!!

Maverick: What?

(Yuki, shaking at a lack of energy, purely running on adrenaline, pulls herself up feebly.)

Yuki: Only I say… When I’ve hit my limit! Your no better than me, or anyone on this damned Earth, so stop acting like it!

(Maverick seems taken aback by Yuki’s attitude, as Yuki gets on her feet, barely able to stand.)

Maverick: Really now? Then show me. Prove it to me.

(Lillian stays back, in awe.)

Lillian: Hey, just stay down! Your not ready for this kind of-

(Yuki’s eyes are hidden by her messy hair.)

Yuki: Shut up! If I can’t do this, then I can’t get my home back!

(Lillian seems surprised.)

Lillian: (... “home?”)

Korace: Yuki, calm down. I’ve never seen you like this before…

(Yuki’s breath is off beat, as if she’s having a panic attack, but her eye is focused on Maverick, like he’s a target.)

Yuki: I’m fine! I’ll take him on!

(Maverick beckons her forth. Yuki breaks into a full on sprint, and begins to clash with him again. She waves Korace around wildly, without rhyme or reason, and Maverick starts to get frustrated.)

Maverick: Stop having a hissy fit over it! You’ve lost, just give up!

Yuki: I told you to shut up!!!

(As Maverick goes in to swing down at her, Yuki grabs his blade with her bare hand. He seems shocked by her action, and she looks up at him as blood starts to drip down onto her face. Yuki then slashes Maverick’s chest directly with Korace, cutting through his coat, leaving a permanent scar across it. Maverick winces, and stumbles back. Yuki then slams Korace into the ground.)

YukI: Korace, do it!!!

(The sword starts to glisten as Ice starts to rapidly flow from around it. The ice spreads along the ground and catches Maverick, who’s feet are now frozen in place. He panics as Yuki turns to Lillian.)

Yuki: Shoot the Ice! Don’t ask questions!

(Lillian seems confused, but nods and does it anyways. As her fire hits the ice, the melting of the ice by the fire creates a thick mist surrounding the two. Maverick, now blinded by the mist, prepares his two swords.)

Maverick: You’ve already tried a trick like this! It won’t work!

Yuki: Your through.

(Maverick gets a chill down his spine, as Yuki is suddenly behind him. He turns his head to face her, and his expression seems to be one of true fear. Yuki’s eye patch has a sickening black aura ressinating from it as she stares at him, her back to him, Korace to her side.)

Korace: 7 Holy Winds:-

Yuki: Sacred Tundra’s Blizzard.

(Suddenly, the panel is full of slashes, going every which way, all striking Maverick at once. Maverick begins to parry them all, but several cut his arms and legs. The attacks cease after a few short seconds, and Maverick breathes heavily, having just fought for his life. Yuki is still looking back at him, but her eye’s aura has faded away. The mist disperses into the atmosphere, and the two are left back to back. Yuki drops to her knees, catching herself on Korace before she falls completely. Lillian see’s the cuts on Maverick, and seems lost.)

Lillian: Holy crap, did you do that?

(Maverick is staring into the sky again, taking long, heavy breaths. Then,  he smiles. He drops his swords to the ground, as he is set free from the Ice. He falls to his knees as well.)

Maverick: You win.

(Yuki seems surprised.)

Yuki: What?

Maverick: That attack… I’ve never seen anything like it. You truly have a gift… but you’ve a long road ahead if you wish to master it. For now, to repay your effort, I will grant you this victory.

(Yuki seems annoyed.)

Yuki: But, you're still able to fight! That attack did nothing!

Maverick: Not every fight is won when the last person is left standing.

(Yuki really takes those last words to heart.)

Korace: He’s right, Yuki. You can’t win every battle by just being stubborn.

Yuki: Right…

(Yuki turns to face Maverick, who looks back at her. The two smile at each other.)

Maverick: A wonderful spar. Bravo.

(Then, from the busted down doors, a kunai flys through the air, and strikes Yuki directly in the stomach. Her eyes start to shake, as she falls to her back, Maverick and Lillian in complete shock.)

Bryan: NO!

(A barely standing Crow Ninja is in the doorway, smirking.)

Crow Ninja: Heh, at least… I got one…
(He faints, falling forward, as Bryan runs to the doorway behind him, also beaten up pretty badly. Maverick grabs Yuki, holding her in his arms as Lillian runs over to help. Yuki’s stomach, where the kunai is stuck, is bleeding onto her coat, and some blood is coming up as she coughs. Her eyes seem almost lifeless, as she, just like Maverick, stares up into the sky.)

Bryan: YUKI!!!!

Chapter 12 "Nothing Is Yours" *NEW*
Spoiler

Chapter 12 “Nothing Is Yours”

(The chapter opens on Yuki’s hazy eyes, as blurry versions of Lillian, Maverick, and Bryan crowd around her. It’s impossible for Yuki to hear what their saying, as her ears are ringing too loudly.)

Yuki: (What’s... going on? Am I… Going to die?)

(Suddenly, everything fades aways from sight, Yuki is left floating in a dark space, as if her senses are giving in.)

Yuki: (This week… has been so weird. I… can’t think of any other time…)

(Shots of Bryan and Hitachi fill the void, some images of them fighting the first thugs and Wisp appear, and even shots from the village, Kuro, Jess, and Taro fill the void as well.)

Yuki: ( …my life… felt so fulfilled. … but… it has to end so soon? Like… this? No… I… I won’t let it!)

(Then, Yuki, back in reality, starts to point towards Korace with a weak hand. Maverick notices, and nods. He grabs Korace, and seems suddenly in shock.)

Maverick: What in the-?

Korace: I’ll explain later. Quickly!

(Maverick seems confused, but hands Korace to Yuki. He steps back as Bryan tries to hear Yuki saying something.)

Maverick: (Did that sword just… speak to me?)

Bryan: Yuki! Hang in there!!!

(Bryan takes the kunai out and applies pressure as Yuki turns her barely usable head to him, and feebly whispers instructions.)

Yuki: Lift…arm… to chest…

(Yuki grips Korace, as Bryan looks confused. He starts to maneuver Yuki’s arm a bit, awkwardly, until Korace is aimed at the wound.)

Bryan: Like… this?

(Yuki shuts her eyes, as Korace shoots a small patch of Ice where the wound is. Bryan kinda jumps back a bit, but holds her arm steady. When Korace finishes, he lets Yuki’s arm fall in a resting position, with Korace to her side.)

Bryan: R-right. I get it. Good thinking.

Lillian: Is she going to make it!?

(Bryan smiles towards Lillian, but seems a bit unsure himself.)

Byran: Of course! She’s a tough one, she’ll make it through just fine.

(Maverick eyes Korace with curiosity as what sounds like a stampede heads for the four wounded. Then, from the side of the building, Hitachi and Jess come running at a full sprint to the group, showing no intention of slowing down.)

Lillian: Isn’t That- ?

Hitachi: Grab your things and get going!

Jess: Fall back!

(Bryan is still helping Yuki. Yuki seems confused as she’s trying to rest. Bryan turns his head toward the two.)

Bryan: What’s going on now!? We can’t really move anytime soon!

(Hitachi sees Yuki on the ground, and seems confused.)

Hitachi: Yuki!?

(Jess and Hitachi slow to a halt by the group, and as they try to get their bearings, Draker [Powered up form] comes rushing to the group, swinging wildly.)

Draker: Not a single one of you are getting away!

(Draker leaps into the air and laughs, then prepares to slam his bat right into Bryan and Yuki as he falls. As he lands, his bat gets caught on something. Draker seems confused, and sees Maverick standing up with his swords, blocking the bat from going any further.)

Maverick: That’s enough Draker! We lost.

(Draker seems annoyed, but is listening as the two struggle to win the clash.)

Draker: The hell are you barking on about!?

Maverick: Look around you. Our place is completely destroyed. Even if we made the money, we’d have to compensate Grim Reaper for the damages, on top of the one million.

(Hitachi and Bryan look at each other.)

Hitachi: “One Million”?

Maverick: These kids wiped out our entire group as well. Hell, I wouldn’t be surprised if Wisp lost again.

(Draker reverts to his normal form, but he is still clashing.)

Draker: These brats just came into our territory, and destroyed our home! You expect me to take that sitting down?

Maverick: You have every right to be mad, but you won’t get anything by fighting them. This place wasn’t ours to begin with, these thugs aren't your friends. Your fighting for nothing.

(Something seems to strike Draker, and he backs off, his bat falling to his side as his grip on it loosens a bit. He is still angry, but he seems lost in the situation. Maverick puts his falchions by his side as well. There is a certain tension in the air, the main crew watching in awe.)

Draker: “Fighting for Nothing”? I’m fighting so we can sleep under our roof tonight! I’m fighting so we can keep this easy life, for all of us!

(Maverick eyes Draker with a serious expression, similar to when he was dueling Yuki and Lillian.)

Maverick: “Our” roof? So “we” can keep this life? For “us”? Open your eyes, Drake. None of this belongs to us. Nothing here is yours.

(Draker calms down completely, and eyes Maverick with an equally serious expression. After a standoff, Draker looks down to the ground painfully, and sighs.)

Draker: Right…

(Maverick releases some of his tension, and looks back at the group. Draker takes a seat on the floor, his bat propped up beside him, as he keeps staring at the ground in deep thought.)

Maverick: As for you lot...
(The crew perks up. Bryan turns back to Yuki, who seems to have completely fallen asleep.)

Bryan: I don’t know who you are… but thank you! That could have gotten ugly.

Hitachi: No kidding. Not one person here is in any condition to keep fighting. We owe you one, mister.

(Maverick seems shocked by their attitude towards them.)

Maverick: We almost killed you. I nearly killed that girl on the ground. How can you be so calm about all of this?

Bryan: Well, If I’m gonna be honest, I’m just kinda tired is all.

Hitachi: A lot’s happened this past week. It’s gonna take a lot to phase us at this point.

Maverick: Right…

(Jess suddenly pushes past the group, and pokes at Maverick’s chest, irritated.)

Jess: And who do you think you are, all high and mighty!

Maverick: Wha-?

Jess: As you just said, you almost killed these kids! Now your saving them? What the hell is your deal? And this hideout, when did it even get here? Is this the group that keeps harassing the villagers? You guys better take what happened today to heart and step down a peg!

(Maverick seems lost in her words, and blushes a bit.)

Maverick: Who are you again…?

(Jess does a frustrated sigh and fixes her glasses, stepping back a bit.)

Jess: I am a senior Student of Dragon University, you may refer to me as Jess. Because of your split second decision, I’ll hold off on calling the authorities. For now. You have until the end of the day to take your group and get the hell out of this forest.

Maverick: Right… will do...

(Draker scoffs and looks to his side, mocking Jess.)

Draker: “High and Mighty”? Look who’s talking.
Jess: As for you, how dare you have the audacity to even touch these children! Without a second thought at that!

Draker: Please, they attacked us first! Hell, they aren't even that much younger than me!

Jess: How does that help your case!?

(Lillian starts to giggle a bit, and the three adults turn to face the kids. They all have soft grins on their faces.)

Lillian: I’m just glad we were able to resolve this peacefully.

Jess: You need to work on your definition for “Peacefully” there…

Draker: Whatever. Let’s find Wisp and get the hell out of here. I’m tired of this dumb gangster crap anyways.

(Maverick smiles as well, and seems relieved.)

Maverick: Right. Actually, I was thinking of-

(As Maverick speaks, a sound can be heard from within the hideout, crashing and scraping from within the hall.)

Hitachi: What’s that sound? Is there more fighting going on?

Lillian: Wait, actually, where’s Taro and Fukie?

(Maverick, concerned by the sound, turns to Lillian to reassure her.)

Maverick: We moved Fukagawa a few feet from here, tied him to a tree. We can go grab him in a second...

(He turns back to the hall.)

Maverick: Hey! Whatever’s going on in there, cut it out! We’re done fighting!

(The noise persists.)

Draker: Hey, didn’t you hear him! It’s over, cut it the *censored* out already!

(Again, no response as the noise grows louder. Draker gets annoyed and gets up, dragging his bat as he gets up. Jess seems concerned as Hitachi steps in front of Lillian and Bryan to protect them as they watch over Yuki. Maverick looks back at the group, then back to Draker.)

Draker: Hey! I swear to god if you don’t drop your damn-

(As Draker takes a step in, the front walls completely fly into huge chunks of rubble, into the air. Draker takes a step back as the group seems shocked, and before they can react, the rubble suddenly flies back, past their original starting point, and onto a giant, silhouetted figure. Heavy breathing is seen around a red eyed, stone figure. It seems to be looking down at Draker. Draker seems shocked at the beast, and before he can say anything, the stone giant takes one of it’s giant fists and attempts to punch Draker. Right before the fist makes contact, Draker buffs up out of fear and blocks the punch with his bat, but barely. He struggles to hold the beast at bay as it starts to push Draker back.)

Draker: What in-!? The hell is this thing!?!?

Maverick: Draker!!

Hitachi: Woah, not good…

Bryan: Is that a Talent!? I don’t remember seeing something like that earlier!

(Bryan perks up suddenly in fear, and then turns to Lillian.)

Bryan: Hey, girl!

(Lillian seems scared of the giant, and then jumps at Bryan suddenly yelling at her.)

Bryan: Take Yuki and get the hell out of here!

(Lillian seems shocked, but then nods. She takes Yuki into her arms, along with her own blade, and runs off into the woods behind them. Yuki has a grip on Koracem resting it on her stomach.)

Hitachi: Good thinking, Bryan. It wouldn’t be easy fighting something like that and worrying about Yuki at the same time.

(Bryan gets up and breaks into a fighting stance. Jess seems scared of the beast as well.)

Jess: Where did this thing even come from!? We need to get out of here, a punch from that could easily kill you of you aren’t careful!

(Bryan and Hitachi look at each other, and then back at Jess.)

Hitachi: What about you three? You can’t take that on your own!
Jess: We have one hell of a better chance without you guys around, that's for sure. Your strong, but your still rookies! Your not in any better shape then Yuki!

(Bryan looks down at his bloodied body, and Hitachi grabs at his wrist.)

Bryan: … Right.

(The two turn to leave, but then the giant roars. Suddenly, a giant stone walls erupts from the ground to block them into the clearing.)

Hitachi: What the-!?

Bryan: Whoa-!

(Hitachi screeches to a halt, and Bryan smacks face first into the wall. A shot of the giant roaring towards the sky is seen [Perhaps a full page for this] as Draker is holding it off. A thin, black line is seen, visible only to the reader, trailing behind the Giant. It leads to the back of the hideout, into the woods. Then, it ends at the bottom of a cane, belonging to Fields. He is holding the cane with an Iron grip, looking outward towards the fight from the depths of the woods. Rachel is beside him, watching in awe.)

Rachel: Woah, I didn’t know you could do that!

Mr. Fields: Well, that's because normally I can’t. This is a modified cane, infused with a Talent for Transmutation.

Rachel: That’s a thing? How neat!

Mr. Fields: Yes, well this is quite a rare tool indeed. These kinds of things are to be expected in our line of work though, you should really start paying more attention to your studies.

(Rachel sticks her tounge out.)

Rachel: But your classes are so boring!

Mr. Fields: Oh, come now! Don’t be so brash!

(Mr. Fields then eyes the fight, seriously. Rachel stares awestruck.)

Mr. Fields: I didn’t expect Draker to just give up on taking out the kids. This is no good. If we are losing our asset here, the least he could have done is given us a good showing.

Rachel: Is that why your intervening?

Mr. Fields: Well, that and…

(Mr. Field’s gaze becomes iron, just like his grip.)

Mr. Fields: This band of rookies truly peaks my interest. I merely want to see what they're capable of.

(Mr. Fields perks up, a bit flustered.)

Mr. Fields: Oh, It seems some got past my radar. Must be getting old. Let me fix that real quick.

(Rachel steps back, her hands behind her back as she watches Fields take his cane and tap the ground a few times. The scene switches to Lillian, carrying Yuki in her arms, Korace on Yuki’s stomach, and her own circular blade around her shoulders as they are running through the forest. Then, two smaller versions of the giant appear to block their path, forming from the ground up. Lillian screeches to a halt, and panics.)

Lillian: Darn, I can’t fight like this-!

(One of the giants takes a step forward, causing the ground to shake under it. The giant attempts to punch Lillain, and as she braces for impact, a bolt of lighting appears from behind her, piercing the fist of the giant and causing it to break apart. The giant roars as Lillian looks behind her to see Fukagawa and Taro. Fukagawa has his left arm outstretched as his right hand holds his spell book. The wind blows his cape in spectacular fashion. Taro is panting behind him.)

Lillian: Fukie! Taro!

Fukagawa: Good. We made it just in time.

(Taro jerks his head up with a comically angry expression.)

Taro: You asshole! You had me carry you on my back so you’d look cooler when we got here!? You said your ankle was broken!

(Fukagawa fixes his glasses with his left arm.)

Fukagawa: Naturally. By the way, I’m perfectly fine.

(Lillian smiles as the giants close in.)

Fukagawa: Lets focus on the task at hand.

(Taro snaps back into the situation and prepares his daggers.)

Taro: Right… huh?

(Taro notices Yuki.)

Taro: Isn’t that…? Lillian, what’s going on!?

(Lillian looks worried as she moves behind them.)

Lillian: The situation’s really, really complicated right now!

(The scene switches to Draker getting pushed back, he falls into his normal state as he falls on his back, as the giant flings rocks at Bryan and Hitachi. Bryan hops over his rock, and Hitachi bats his away using his sword with one hand, but barely. Jess seems concerned for them, as Maverick moves to protect Draker.)

Maverick: We need to take this thing out. It’s going to crush all the other injured if we don’t do something.

Draker: What the hell can we do, the thing is getting bigger than the hideout!

Jess: You two, get back!

(Maverick and Draker look at her confused, but nod and scramble to her side.)

Jess: It’s been awhile since I’ve done this with other people, but just follow my instructions. You two boys in the back, this applies to you too!

(Bryan and Hitachi run up to the group as well. A shot of the four facing the Giant [towards the reader] as Jess outstretches her arms is shown.)

Jess: Battle Grid!

(Jess crouches to the floor, placing her hands to the ground. Then, from her palms, the same grid from before appears over the entire battlefield.)

Maverick: Never seen a Talent like this before…

Draker: It’s unique, I’ll give her that.

Jess: Targets: 1. Possible Weak Points: 46. Possible Casualties: 53. Calculating Best Route… You guys, cover me!

(The Giant charges in to attack, as Maverick and Draker rush in to stop it. Maverick slashes at it’s legs in a whirlwind fashion as the giant’s attention is trained on Draker, who buffs up and grabs one of his arms, halting the Giant.)

Jess: Alright, Hitachi, your up first! Attack it’s right shoulder. Bryan, wait for his attack, then follow up on it’s other arm, just strike it’s elbow.

(The kids seem a bit uneasy, but nod. Hitachi runs up to the Giant, wielding his sword with one hand. He lifts himself into the air by flinging himself off the ground with his sword, and then twirls sideways as he slams into the Giant’s shoulder with full force. The Giant roars, ripping it’s other arm out of Draker’s grasp and it goes to reach for Hitachi. Then, Draker grabs Bryan as he runs to follow up, and tosses him up towards that arm. Bryan takes both hands and slams down onto the arm’s elbow with full force, causing Bryan to wince a bit, but also causing the giant to buckle.)

Jess: Trench Coat, Shirtless, your up!

Draker: We have names, you know!

Jess: Trench, Attack his left ankle next, wedge your swords into one of it’s crevices!

(Maverick dashes over, and follows her directions exactly. The foot then pops off of the giant, becoming natural stone. The giant begins to fall backwards. Hitachi lands on his feet gracefully behind the giant, and Bryan falls on his face, flipping to his back.)

Hitachi: Smooth.

Bryan: Screw off… Whoa!

(The giant is about to fall on top of them, right as Draker dashes in, buffed up, to catch the giant’s back.)

Jess: Now, Shirtless! Do it!

Draker: Shut up, I know, I know!

(Draker starts to buff up to extremes as the kids struggle to back away from the giant. Draker is barely holding the giant up, but once the giant is fully off the ground, and in Draker’s hands, he gets a rough grip on the stone of the giant’s back and tosses it towards the woods. The giant is flung about two or three feet into the tree’s, knocking several down as it lands on its front side. Draker reverts back to normal, and seems completely out of breath, as he falls to his knees.)

Draker: Now just finish it already!!

(Maverick nods, and he moves in to start separating more parts of the beast. Then, the giant lifts itself up a bit, roaring at the ground as it does. Several boulders from its body go flying in all directions, with one smacking right into Maverick, knocking him on his back, and another flooring Draker. Jess shouts as Bryan and Hitachi dodge out of the way of the debris. Hitachi notices that the two adults are completely incapable of fighting past this point, and looks at Bryan.)

Hitachi: Bryan, it’s up to us!

Bryan: Huh!? How are we gonna take that thing down?

Hitachi: We do what the tall one did. Just separate as many pieces as you can!

Bryan: Alright, if you say so!

(Jess falls back as she dodges some debris herself, and watches as the boys rush in on their own.)

Jess: Damn it you two, fall back! We need to regroup!

(They ignore her, and as the giant raises itself back to it's one foot, [ It is kinda crouching on the ground, it can’t stand properly] Bryan and Hitachi rush in on opposite sides and start to attack random pieces of the giant. Hitachi wedges his sword into the midway point of the giant’s right arm and pops it off, and Bryan tackles the other arm, hugging it as he runs past, causing his chunk to go with him. The Giant, now armless, falls on its face, and roars as it falls. A shot of Fields impressed is shown.)

Mr. Fields: Quite a coordinated pair, those two. Let’s see how they deal with this next one.

(Suddenly, the giant slams it’s broken arms into the ground, and pushes himself back up as his arms start to reform. Hitachi whips back around in a drifting motion, his sword swinging as he does. Bryan follows close behind.)

Hitachi: The head!

Bryan: On it!

(Maverick lifts his head up a bit to watch as the two sprint to the front of the giant again, this time both leaping onto it’s back as it lifts itself. Hitachi and Bryan shout at the top of their lungs as they jump at the head, both striking it with all their might. Hitachi slams the end of his sword down on one side of the head, in a downward strike, and Bryan throws a strong punch with his left hand in the same motion. The giant roars one final time as it’s head shatters into pieces, and as the two fly into the air, towards the ground, the rest of the giant’s body does the same. Bryan looks impressed and pleased with himself, with tears forming in his eyes as he holds his left hand in pain. Hitachi looks back with a satisfied grin as well. The two both fall on their sides as they hit the ground this time, and the rest of the giant finally deforms into rubble again, for the final time. Bryan laughs as the two pull themselves to sitting positions.)

Bryan: Smooth, Hitachi!

(Hitachi shoots a happy smirk.)

Hitachi: Heh, shut up you dumbass.

(Jess and Maverick are awestruck at what they just witnessed. Draker is completely out for the count, but is breathing softly as he rests nearby. Hitachi and Bryan fist bump one another as the shot zooms out to show the final picture of the destroyed hideout and rubble, and all the thugs who are knocked out from the initial raid around the debris of the hideout. The scene switches to Mr. Fields, who is smiling softly towards the direction of the finished battle. Rachel seems a bit lost.)

Rachel: What happened, is it over?

Mr. Fields: Yes, it’s over. I’ve got to say, they are one hell of a pair. Wish I could have seen more from the other kids, but those two made up for it, for sure.

Rachel: What now?

Mr. Fields: We’ll leave them be for now. I’ll let Reaper in on them, as well as the loss of the forest branch. It’s a shame, but-

Rachel: What? You told me the other day you were gonna shut that branch down soon anyways! Said they were a bunch of good for nothings!

Mr. Fields: Hmm? Well, I guess I did say something like that. I did give them a second chance though, remember?

(Rachel makes a pouty face.)

Rachel: A million is pushing it as a “second chance”...
Mr. Fields: You said you were hungry earlier, no?

(Rachel perks up, and seems happy.)

Rachel: Yay! Let’s go eat lots of yummy desserts!

(The two turn and start to head into the depths of the forest, their backs to the reader. Fields takes his cane and tosses it into the air and catching it as he turns.)

Mr. Fields: I think you should probably fill up on actual food first.

Rachel: What!? Desserts are food! Sweet, delicious food!

(The shot switches to a few hours later, several of the thugs are now up, helping other wounded thugs. Lillian, Taro, and Fukagawa are looking around the wreck, in awe. Draker is up now, sitting a few feet away from the crowd, with Maverick. Bryan and Hitachi are getting bandaged up by Jess, who is barking at them as Yuki rests beside them.)

Jess: That was real reckless, you two! There’s so many things that could have gone wrong! What if you tripped and broke your head? How did you know hitting its head would even kill it! Did you even consider that it might explode or something if you took it down!?!?

 Bryan: Jeez, your welcome lady.

Hitachi: I think what he means to say is we’re sorry, but we did manage to take it down.

(Jess sighs, and puts her arms on both of their shoulders.)

Jess: I’m just glad you're all alright. I was so worried…

Hitachi: … Hey, didn't you say you had the file for us? For the Request in Taoru?

(Jess backs up and starts to dig around herself, and then pulls out the file from her shirt.)

Jess: Oh, right. Here, don’t you dare lose it, it took me forever to actually track you guys down.

(Hitachi takes the file and puts it on his lap. Bryan looks at it in awe as Hitachi looks down at Yuki.)

Hitachi: I think we’ll camp out in the forest for the night. I left our stuff nearby, so it won’t be too bad. I think we could use a quick recharge.

(Yuki seems to be sleeping peacefully.)

Jess: Sounds like a plan. It’s not like you have much to worry about, you just took out the biggest threat out here! I’ll be heading back to the village then, I’m sure Kuro is worried about me.

(Jess waves as she goes to check out a few more things, she heads in the direction of Maverick and Draker. Fukagawa’s team moves to speak with Hitachi and Bryan next. Fukagawa coughs awkwardly and then looks to his side as he speaks. Taro is eyeing Fukagawa, as if expecting something, while Lillian is smiling like a goofball.)

Fukagawa: Th-thank you.

Hitachi: For?

(Fukagawa gets irritated.)

Fukagawa: For saving us, you dumbass! Jeez, do I have to spell it out for you?

(Bryan chuckles a bit.)

Bryan: No worries man, I’m happy you guys are alright!

Taro: I really can’t thank you guys enough, I wouldn’t have been able to save these guys on my own. Really, I owe you one.

Hitachi: Don’t sweat it. We have to work together on this next Request anyways, its for the best we end this on a good note.

(Bryan perks up.)

Bryan: Oh, right. I forgot we were heading to Taro. I got so caught up in all of this thug business that I haven't even looked at my C.R.O.W recently.

(Bryan pulls out his device, and then seems like he’s dreading something.)

Hitachi: What is it?

Bryan: I… I got a lot of messages from the doc… I should really get back to him…

Hitachi: The doc? A friend of yours?

Bryan: Yeah, he lives out in Taoru. We can stop by his place while we’re there!

Lillian: That’s fine, we’ll go on ahead and see if we can’t scout some stuff out ahead of time.

Taro: We’re good with Intel, so don’t worry about a thing.

(Fukagawa takes the file from Hitachi, and sighs as he tosses his own C.R.O.W at Bryan.)

Fukagawa: Hurry up and add me to your contacts. We’ll need to keep in touch from here on out.

Bryan: Huh? Oh, right!

(As Bryan punches some stuff in, and then stares at the screen blankly.)

Fukagawa: What is it?

(Bryan shoots Fukagawa a shy smile.)

Bryan: Um… could you show me how?

(As Fukagawa loses his *censored* on Bryan, the scene switches to Draker and Maverick, sitting away from the commotion under the shade of some trees. Wisp is also nearby, awake now, leaning on a tree.)

Maverick: So, what now?

Draker: What?

Maverick: You’ve been in deep thought for a while now, ever since you got up. You got a new plan?

Draker: Well, I… honestly, I’m not sure.

Maverick: I can’t blame you. We should consider this a reset on our lives. We’re lucky that student didn’t arrest us and our crew when she had the chance.

(Jess then coughs, catching their attention. Draker and Maverick look towards her, and Wisp looks over his shoulder.)

Jess: Well then, I have a proposition for you.

Draker: What do you want now, chick?

(Jess fixes her glaces as the afternoon sun shines behind her.)

Jess: Become Students.

(Wisp looks over, and Maverick seems shocked. Draker’s eyebrow raises.)

Draker: We’re wanted men. That’s impossible at this point.

Jess: I can work something out with the higher ups, I know the principal personally.

Maverick:  …Why us, specifically?

Jess: You have considerable potential. Your performance during our struggle was outstanding, it would be a waste to have Talents such as your locked behind bars. Though, from here on out you need to swear to a life of honest living, no more gangster shenanigans. We clear?

Draker: Well then, I guess that answers that. Mave, Wisp?

(Wisp turns back around.)

Wisp: I really don’t care, as long as I’m not in jail, I could care less.

(Maverick smiles, and looks towards Draker.)

Maverick: Actually, I already thought of becoming a Student after all of this.

Draker: Huh?

Wisp: What do you mean?

(Maverick looks over towards the group of kids, specifically towards Yuki.)

Maverick: That girl… she’s caught my eye.

Wisp: Gross.

Draker: Dude, she’s way younger than you.

(Maverick barks at them.)

Maverick: That’s not what I meant, dumbasses!

(Maverick sighs, and continues.)

Maverick: She’s an incredible fighter. Her stamina, her will, her abilities, they honestly well surpassed most of ours. If she wasn’t blind sided, she probably could have made it to the end of the battle, even after taking me on.

Draker: What do you plan on doing then?

Maverick: She's still rusty. I want to train her.

(Jess seems pleased with Maverick’s decision.)

Wisp: That's one hell of a jump. You fought her once and now you want to take her under your wing? Your not even that kinda guy, why start now?

Maverick: I’m not sure… I just feel like I could teach her a lot. Hell, I may even learn a bit myself.

Draker: Well then, in that case...

(Draker gets up, and places his hand on Maverick’s shoulder, to Maverick’s surprise.)

Draker: You better not forget about us!

Wisp: Keep us posted on your status, we don’t need to be worried whether or not you kicked the bucket on the job or something.

(Maverick smiles and laughs a bit.)

Maverick: Right. Will do.

(The scene switches back to the main six. Fukagawa is dustins off his crow comedically as his team starts to leave.)

Taro: We’ll keep you posted, let us know when you get to the city!

Fukagawa: It’s not far, if you leave by tomorrow morning, you’ll reach it by the afternoon.

Lillian: Bye guys, it was nice meeting you! Thanks for everything so far!

(They wave goodbye as Bryan gets up to check his C.R.O.W.)

Bryan: We should get going too.  It’s gonna get dark soon, and you said we still need to get our stuff right?

Hitachi: Yeah. Should we wake Yuki up?
(Yuki rubs her eyes, and sits up slowly.)

Yuki: No… need.

(Bryan seems terrified, and Hitachi jumps a bit.)

Bryan: Whoa, don’t scare us like that!

Hitachi: That was a quick rest, considering your wounds…

Yuki: I’ll be fine… The Ice worked quick, closed up the wound.

Bryan: (Is that how that even works…?)

Yuki: I was kinda listening in. Our next destination is Taoru, then?

(Hitachi nods. Yuki takes off her coat and Bryan taps his C.R.O.W a bit. As the three chat, Maverick walks up to them. He has his hands by his side, his falchions on his back. Hitachi seems alert, and Bryan kinda casually looks towards Maverick. Yuki is tieing her coat to her waist, and then looks to Maverick, waves at her.)

Maverick: Yo.

Yuki:... Yo?

Bryan: Your the guy that saved us from the big, bulky guy, right?

Maverick: Yeah, the names Maverick.

Hitachi: What do you want now?

Maverick:  No need to be see so uptight, I wanted to propose something.

(Maverick sits down in front of the group, and faces them.)

Maverick: Currently, I don’t have a place to go. My friends are going to move on to becoming Students, thanks to you. I was wondering… If there was a place for me on your squad.

(Bryan seems interested, and Hitachi seems to be questioning the claim.)

Hitachi: How can we even trust you? Weren't you a thug?

Yuki: That’s rich, coming from you, Hitachi.
(Hitachi looks at Yuki, and then thinks back to how they met. He then blushes a bit and looks down.)

Hitachi: Right… guess I’m in no position to judge.

Bryan: Is there a particular reason?

(The two look towards Bryan, and Maverick nods, and nods towards Yuki.)

Maverick: Your friend here has considerable potential. Let me join your troop, and I’ll train her to the best of my ability.

(Yuki blushes a bit, and Bryan laughs.)

Bryan: Haha! Well, that sounds like one hell of a deal! A new teammate, and you get a new trainer Yuki!

Hitachi: He’s right, that's not a bad idea. I can’t really help you train because my style is too different, and Bryan doesn't use a sword at all.

(Yuki looks towards Korace.)

Yuki: I… already have a master. Sorry.

Korace: It’s ok. You may learn under him.

(Both Maverick and Yuki perk up, and then Yuki notices that Maverick is looking at Korace.)

Yuki: Huh? Wait, can you…?

(Maverick nods. Hitachi and Bryan look at each other, confused.)

Korace: There are plenty of things I can still teach you, but… there is a limit. There is only so much I can teach without being able to show you. You should take that man up on his offer.

(Maverick smiles and closes his eyes. Then, he raises his head towards the group.)

Maverick: Right. Then from now on, I’ll be rooming with you guys!

Hitachi: I’m still a bit skeptical, but… welcome to the team, Maverick.

Bryan: Yeah! Another teammate! Let’s celebrate!

(Yuki smiles shyly herself, and laughs.)

Yuki: Celebrate? With what?

(Maverick perks up.)

Maverick: Hey, where do you guys stay?

(Bryan starts to sweat a bit.)

Byran: Heh… about that.

(The scene deafens as Maverick listens to Bryan explain their situation. Maverick’s expression slowly falls into a disappointed and worried one as a few panels pass.)

Maverick: Your telling me… you don’t even have a place to rest tonight?

Bryan: Of course we do!

Hitachi: What he means is no, we don't.

Byran: I count the ground as a perfectly fine place to take a nap!

Yuki: We also only have enough sheets for the three of us, what will Maverick use?

Bryan: I didn’t think of that… hmmm? I know, he can gather leaves!

Hitachi: What? The hell is he gonna do with leaves?

(The three bicker among themselves as Maverick’s head is tilted.)

Maverick: (What… have I gotten myself into?)

(The scene pans out once more on the now four man team, with the four talking amongst themselves as the area is clearing out. The chapter starts to close out, until some of the fading out starts to seem off, and then the scene switches to a city street, at night. A round, cloaked figure is seen strutting through the streets, and then it takes a turn down an alleyway. Two other cloaked figures are seen, a short, skinny one, and a jacked, buff one, seeming expecting the first one. They walk together in the alley to a back door, and walk in. They throw off their cloaks, but they are, for the most part, still silhouetted out. They enter a bar like setting, but it is only them.)

Round Man: Well, I think I got the times down.
Skinny Teen: Are we all set then? Should I tell the boss?

(Some cat like ears start to form above them, and the jacked ones tail can be seen waving around as he takes a seat on a *censored*ty, velvet red couch. There is a great impact when he makes contact with the cushions. His body is revealed, scars lining his chest as his baggy pants wave to the winds of a poorly functioning ceiling fan. [ The characters are Round = Teddy, Skinny = Shake, and Jacked = Galivent, three of the four members of ClaW.])

Jacked Man: Don’t bother. We were supposed to be done last night. Let’s just make up for it by striking as soon as possible.

Round Man: Well, then that would be… let’s see… three days from now.

(The Jacked one’s smile can be seen, he grins wickedly towards the reader. Only the lower portion of his face is revealed. His tail curls up a bit, and some of his hair falls along his shoulder.)

Jacked Man: Right. Then three days from now, we make out mark.

(The Chapter closes on this scene, with text lining the bottom. [ “Three days until _____. What will happen…? “ ] )

[Start of Vol. 2 Post]

Chapter 13 "Arrival"

Spoiler

Chapter 13 “Arrival”

(The chapter opens on Yuki’s mansion, in perfect condition. Some shots of the halls are displayed, again empty and bare. A shot of Yuki’s boots climbing up the steps of her basement are seen, and a shot of Korace in her strangely small hands are seen. Then, she opens the front door, revealing that this is a flashback, as Yuki is a considerable amount younger, around 9 or 10 years old. She covers her eyes from the sun.)

Korace: Come on now, we don’t have all day.

Yuki: Do we have to, Master? Why can’t I just sleep in today…

Korace: Because I let you do that yesterday…

(A scene of Yuki doing her log training is shown, she throws the log into the air, and attempts to hit it, but misses completely, swinging with her eyes closed, with both hands on Korace.)

Korace: Come on now, how are you going to hit it if your not trying!

Yuki: I am trying! This is hard you know!

Korace: Please, you just want to sit around all day. No breaks until you can snap that log in two.

(Yuki looks devastated.)

Yuki: What!? That's not fair though!

(Korace yells back comedically.)

Korace: Yeah, well life's not fair, child!

(Yuki drops Korace, turns around, sits down, and starts to sob.)

Yuki: This is stupid! I’ve been doing this for a year, and I’m not getting any better! I wanna quit!

Korace: Quit!?  Come now, You’ve only just begun!

Yuki: What's the point in all this anyways!? You keep telling me that I need to get stronger and stronger to protect myself, but no ones even out here!

Korace: Now Yuki… That's not true. What if someone tries to harm you when you go out there, to that place? You’ll need to be able to defend yourself.

(There is silence, as Yuki looks down at the ground, her back still turned.)

Korace: I know it’s hard, but it's just you now. You need to understand that if you can’t handle yourself properly, than you won’t make it very far in life. It’s harsh, I know, but that’s the reality of it… Hey, are you alright?

(Yuki turns her head slowly towards Korace and the reader.)

Yuki: That place... The city…

(Yuki seems comedically terrified, some tears still in her eyes.)

Yuki : Its real big and scary...

Korace: You… didn’t listen to a thing I just said…

(The scene switches to a campfire, the time now in the present day. It is a scene at night, Bryan is clearly passed out nearby, Hitachi is leaning against a tree, playing around on Bryan’s C.R.O.W,  and Yuki and Maverick are talking amongst themselves, sitting across from each other. Hitachi’s, Bryan’s, and Yuki’s coats and jacket are hanging up on a branch, drying after being washed. Maverick’s Coat is folded beside him, he is smoking a cigarette as he is talking with Yuki. He is wearing a basic Grey T-shirt. Special attention is shown on the cigarette before Maverick speaks.)

Maverick: Hey… did I lose?

(Yuki seems to have been distracted, but her attention is brought back to Maverick.)

Yuki: Huh!? Oh… sorry. You reminded me of something, that’s all… Go on.

Maverick: Right. Well, I was just saying we should plan out what we’re going to do tomorrow at Taoru. I know a hotel we can bunker down in for now, but we should start to decide what kind of Requests we should take, and stuff like that.

Yuki: Haha, well, I guess we should decide tomorrow morning. Bryan is the one who’s all about this “Student” stuff, he would know what to do. He kind of passed out already, though.

Maverick: Hehe, its alright then... Now, I guess you could tell me more about yourselves. I’ve already told you my story, let’s hear yours.

(Yuki smiles softly and pats Korace, who is settled next to her.)

Yuki: Well, what do you want to know about us?

Maverick: Hmm… I guess, how did you guys end up together? Childhood friends?

Yuki: Yeah right. Actually, about a week back, these thugs showed up to my house, and threatened to take everything. Hitachi was with them at the time, and Bryan showed up about a minute after and just went to town on them.

Maverick: Thugs huh? Wonder if I knew them. Though, I feel like I would have seen Hitachi before…

(Hitachi stops messing around on the device for a second to chip in to the conversation.)

Hitachi: Actually, I had joined them that day. It’s still possible those three were from your group. Though, I guess it doesn't really matter now.

Yuki: Anywho, while I’m grateful for Bryan’s help, and even Hitachi’s, they ended up doing a number on my place. Now I’m sort of keeping tabs on them while they scrunch up the money to repair my place.

Maverick: Whoa. You guys seemed pretty close, I never woulda guessed that your just tagging along. You formed a Rookie Team just to do that?

Yuki: Well, Bryan wanted to form a team, and we didn’t have any other ideas for how they could pay off the damages. It just sort of worked out in the end.

Maverick: I see. What a strange lot. Though I can’t say I don’t believe you. These two really are homewreckers.

(Hitachi chuckles to himself, a bit embarrassed. A shot of Bryan and Hitachi busting through the doors of the forest hideout, and the shot of Hitachi smashing through the back wall, are shown.)

Hitachi: Yeah, sorry about that. I guess we were in such a rush to save Fukagawa and Lillian, we really didn’t think and just acted.

Maverick: Honestly, it was kind of sick, the way you guys decided to go about it. I wouldn’t have had the balls to go through the front door without knowing what to expect. And to take on an entire group of bandits…

(Maverick laughs.)

Maverick: You kids sure are a handful.

Yuki: Yeah, well you're one of us now. I don’t really have a bone to pick with you, so you’ll have to help me keep and eye on these two from now on.

Hitachi: I can handle myself you know. The one you should be worried about is… well, we shouldn’t say names.

(The three laugh to themselves playfully as the shot ends on Bryan, snoozing away with a dumb, innocent smile on his face. The scene switches to the city, Taoru, still at night. Several cars and people are crowding the streets, some are playing around with their Talents, trying to impress others who walk by. The scene eventually focuses in on a tall skyscraper, with the words “BANK” printed on a sign high above the city streets. From the highest level, with the perspective facing upwards from the street, the glass shatters, and a figure is seen jumping out, bracing themselves for the impact of the glass. Several city goers stop and gawk at the figure at it starts to glide to the ground. Shouting can be heard, as the figure approaches ever closer to the streets below. The figure has an all black outfit, with their scarf flailing in the wind behind them. They reach into their pocket, and toss down a smoke bomb the second they hit the ground. Guards start to run out of the building as the figure dashes out at mach speeds, up the side of nearby, smaller building. They then begin to run across several roof tops, hoping across as they make their grand escape. The figure is holding onto a considerably heavy bag. The focus then shifts to the moon’s light shining on their mask, which is entirely white with only two blacked out eye holes. They make one final leap as the scene ends with the figure gliding through the air, their figure silhouetted by the light of a full moon in the background.)

(The scene cuts to the next morning, the first shot should be of the sun shining down brightly through the trees. The main group can be seen walking through the forest together, the shot is looking down on them, their backs to the reader. As they walk, Bryan is messing around on his C.R.O.W, Hitachi is carrying the baggage, and Yuki and Maverick are walking a bit ahead of the others. Hitachi looks over at the two ahead, and then over to Bryan.)

Hitachi: Yo. Bryan.

(Bryan doesn't look back, he is focused on his C.R.O.W)

Bryan: Whats up?

Hitachi: How much further till we get there?

Bryan: Hmm… I’m not sure, really. Hehe…

(Maverick looks over his shoulder towards Hitachi.)

Maverick: We should be there soon, about another hour or so.

(Yuki puts Korace up to rest on her shoulder as she walks.)

Yuki: All this walking and forest nonsense is killing me. I can’t wait until I finally have a bed to sleep in again.

HItachi: Hey, if I may ask...

(The others look at Hitachi as they walk.)

Hitachi: What’s Taoru like?

(Yuki winces a little bit.)

Yuki: W-well, it’s a big place. Plenty of restaurants and shops though, so I guess that’s pretty cool.

Maverick: A lot of people there too, it’s probably the second biggest city for miles.

(Yuki looks worried at the word “People”.)

Bryan: Oh, it’s also home to the University!

Hitachi: I see, so it must be a pretty busy place.

Maverick: Which is a good thing. If you two are looking to pay off your debt as soon as possible, this is your best bet. If I’d have to guess, I’d say there's at least a couple dozen small jobs Requested everyday throughout the city.

(Maverick looks over to Bryan now.)

Maverick: Which reminds me. Bryan, what should we do once we get there? Any plans for the afternoon?

Bryan: Huh? Well… I’d say we should probably get a Hotel room set up for us, and then get you three C.R.O.Ws. I also need to meet up with the Doc. Once that’s all set, I’ll message Fukagawa’s team.

Maverick: Wait, These two don’t have C.R.O.Ws?

Yuki: I… don’t really get out much, save for this week.

Hitachi: They aren't really a thing where I’m from.

Bryan: Wait, do you have one?

Maverick: Haha, of course! I figured everyone had one, but I guess not.

(Hitachi sighs and Yuki seems a bit flustered as the two laugh a bit. The scene switches from them walking through the forest to them arriving at a dirt path that is becoming more firm, more concrete. In the near distance, Taoru is seen. Skyscrapers are piercing the skyline, the Freeway (Train Rail System) is looping around some of them. A bustling noise can be heard in the distance. The sun is beaming down on the group as the four seem excited and relieved.)

Maverick: Well, here we are. Not much longer until we finally get a breather.

Bryan: Woo! Taoru!!! It’s been too long! I can’t wait to go home!

(The three stop and look at Bryan.)

Yuki: Wait, you have a home…?

Hitachi: Why didn’t you say anything? We could have just came here sooner!

Bryan: Haha, well it’s not really my “home” per say. More like the Doc’s place. I sleep there whenever I come to the city for Requests. I usually sleep outdoors though.

(Bryan scratches his head a bit imagining a chibi Dr. Nomuri in his head, old and stubborn.)

Bryan: Plus, he doesn't like company all that much, even mine.

(Yuki gives Bryan a look and says something under her breath as Hitachi looks towards the city.)

Yuki: Yeah, but we don’t like putting up with you either…

Hitachi: I wonder what the people are like…

(The scene shows the four walking towards the city. It then switches to several shots of the bustling, busy city. Several cars are zooming down the streets, street performers are amazing people as they pass by, couples are chatting and showing off to one another on benches along the sidewalks. The steps of Yuki are shown, and then the shot pans up to see her coat zipped all the way up, as she turtles to hide her face from the crowd. Bryan is walking casually, a few steps ahead. Hitachi is taking in the sights and crowd, observing every little detail, and Maverick is walking towards the back of the group, his coat thrown over his shoulder, smoking a cigarette. The four make it to a small park, which is less crowded. Yuki sits down and takes a deep breath on a bench as the other three gather around.)

Bryan: You ok, Yuki?

Yuki: Do I look “ok”!?

Hitachi: I take it city life isn’t really your style, though I can’t say that takes me by surprise.

(Maverick chuckles a bit before clearing his throat.)

Maverick: Alright, I think I know how to manage out time properly. We should split up into two groups.

Hitachi: Hmm, well, we should all be together when Yuki and I receive our C.R.O.Ws, so we need to get a Hotel room and Bryan needs to meet with his friend, “Doc”.

Maverick: Hitachi, come with me to the Hotel. Bryan can take Yuki with him. Both Bryan and I know the city, where as you two would get lost easily. This is the best course of action, I’d say.

(Maverick points to a distinctly shaped skyscraper.)

Maverick: Bryan, Yuki.  When your all set, head there. That’s the Hotel we’ll be staying at. I’ll leave a message with the receptionist at the Hotel to tell you two what our room number is.

(Bryan shoots Maverick a thumbs up with a dumb grin, while Yuki stares at Bryan, annoyed.)

Yuki: Why do I have to deal with him… ?

Maverick: Then it’s settled. Don’t take all day, we still want to hit up a Checkpoint to get your C.R.O.Ws before night hits.

(Yuki and Bryan watch as Hitachi and Maverick walk back into the crowd, and once their out of sight, Yuki leans over and sighs. Bryan laughs a bit, and then pats her on the back.)

Yuki: I don’t know what's worse, being alone with you, or having to keep up with you in this damn place…

Bryan: Don’t worry Yuki, I’ll make this visit quick. Let me call him in advance.

(Bryan calls Nomuri on his C.R.O.W, and holds his device out so Yuki can also see and speak with the doctor. It rings for a bit, and then Nomuri answers, seeming as if he had just woke up,)

Bryan: Hey Doc!

(Yuki waves Shyly.)
Nomuri: Oh, so you made it back? Took your damn time. What do yah wa- Huh? Who’s the chick?

(Bryan grins.)

Bryan: One of my teammates, her name’s Yuki!

(Yuki bows a bit.)

Yuki: Yuki Versai. Nice to meet you, Doc.

Nomuri: Likewise. You can call me Nomuri, Bryan seems to have a weird fixation on the whole “Doc” thing.

Yuki: Really? Though, does sound like something he’d do.

Bryan: Hey, is it ok if we drop by for a few things?

Nomuri: Hmm? Sure, It’s your *censored*, I really don’t care. What is it you need?

Bryan: I’m just stopping by for some clothes and equipment.

Nomuri: I see. Well, I’ll try and have something ready when you two get here. I’m sure Bryan’s basically starved you, Yuki. You poor soul.

(Yuki’s stomach growls, and she blushes a bit.)

Yuki: Now that I think about it, I haven’t really been eating a lot recently…

(Nomuri sighs, fixing his glasses.)

Nomuri: I figured as much. Well, I’ll be waiting.

(The screen goes back to the main menu of the device. Bryan and Yuki get up, and start to head off as Bryan leads the way. The scene flips to Hitachi and Maverick, who are now walking next to a long row of small shops.)

Hitachi: I see, so just about anyone can run a business here?

Maverick: Huh? How'd you pick up on that?

Hitachi: Well, just a hunch really. There’s a lot of small time shops around this part, it must be busy. People probably set up shop for a bit here, then leave and make room for other small shops. All these building’s seem rather new, so they couldn’t have been here for too long.

Maverick: You have a knack for the details, huh kid?

(The two look forward as they see a shady man in a yellow hoodie walk into a much older looking shop. The man was clearly holding some kind of weapon in his hoodie. The shop seems a bit run down, with its sign reading “Snak Shak”.)

Hitachi: Maverick…

Maverick: Yeah, I saw him. It’s best not to get involved.

Hitachi: But that man is going to…!

Maverick: Just stand by, watch.

(The man enters the shop. The inside is just as run down as the inside, with some shelves barely stocked up with snacks. A large Husky is lying by the entrance on the inside, and it raises its head slightly as the man walks past. The man looks around at the place a bit, only a few customers are chatting toward the back. The man smirks nervously, as he eyes the front counter. A medium sized man, a bit on the chubby side, is running the front counter. He is near bald, with a small beard growing in. He has on a simple white T- shirt, with a black apron thrown over it. He is leaning over the counter, head in hand, reading a manga [ You can make it DU for the Lols.] The suspicious man walks over to the cashier. The cashier doesn’t seem to care about the man as he stands at the register.)

Hoodie: Hey.

(The Cashier looks over towards the man, not really moving much.)

???: Yo. Never seen your face before. This your first time here?

Hoodie: Open the register. Keep calm, and I won't have to hurt you or any of the customers.

???: Oh? Tough guy, eh?

(The cashier closes the manga and stands up right.)

???: I think I’ll pass on the whole “you robbing me” thing.

(The hoodie wearing man pulls out a pistol, with a small flame coming from the muzzle.)

Hoodie: Don’t make me do something I’ll regret.

???: Something “you’ll” regret? I think you have a screw loose man. Do you have any idea who I am?

(The hoodie man sweats a bit, but still has the gun trained on the cashier.)

Hoodie: H-Huh? Quit messing around! I’ll give you five seconds to start coughing the cash over!

(The customers are giggling amongst themselves as the man starts to shake.)

???: Right. Yo, Acé!

(The Husky from the front of the store raises his head. The hoodie man smirks and then points the gun to the dog.)

Hoodie: Ha! Nice try. If the dog even moves an inch, I’ll take him out. You better start forking the money over!

(The cashier sighs.)

???: You asked for it.

(The hoodie man looks back at the cashier confused, and then back at the dog. Then, he notices the dog is nowhere in sight. The man’s eyes widen as a drop of sweat rolls down his head. Directly behind him, the dog appears, mid air as if it had just teleported behind him, with its eyes filled with a blood lust. The shot is then switched to outside the building, where Hitachi and Maverick are watching patiently. Hitachi seems a bit worried. Then, the man comes flying out, as if he was smacked it a large force. He barrels back first through the doors, and the cashier walks out to yell at him.)

???: And don’t think I won’t remember your ugly mug, pal! Get lost!

(Some citizens and passerbys are laughing as the hoodie man is covered in scratches, even sporting a new black eye. He screams and runs off into the crowd. The cashier sighs, and then notices Maverick and Hitachi. The cashier smiles, and waves towards Maverick.)

Maverick: Let’s make a quick pit stop.

Hitachi: H-Huh?

(The two are now in the shop, the other customers have left at this point. The cashier is leaning on the back wall behind the counter, and his dog is sniffing Hitachi. Hitachi pets him, and Maverick seems happy to be here.)

Maverick: Hitachi, this is Nathan, we just call him Nate though. We go way back.

Nate: Eh, I wouldn’t say that. You and your goons just stop by all the time to stock up. Who’s the kid?

Maverick: Speaking of goons, that's what I was gonna talk to you about.

Nate: Hmm?

(the scene changes slightly. Acé is now resting by Hitachi’s feet as Hitachi browses the shelves  for snacks. Nate looks down as he tugs on his beard.)

Nate: I see. So you’ve chosen to clean up your act a bit. Can’t say I blame ya, that Mafia bunch are a handful.

(Hitachi looks at Maverick as he hears “mafia”. Maverick sighs and laughs a bit.)

Maverick: Yeah, seems like I’m going to be tagging along with these kids from now on.

Nate: Well, if your gonna be in the city, don’t be a stranger. Acé seems to have taken a liking to your friend over there.

(Acé licks Hitachi’s hand as Hitachi smiles at the pup.)

Maverick: Of course. We’ll be staying at the Hotel a few streets down, so we’ll be around to pick up some stuff every now and then.

(The two leave the shop as Nate and Acé watch them go. Once they hit the streets again, Hitachi speaks with Maverick. They are carrying a few plastic bags.)

Hitachi: Friend of yours?

Maverick: I’ve been going to his shop for a few years. I like the guy a lot, he has quite the reputation.

Hitachi: Huh? Really, how come?

(Maverick looks towards the crowd ahead of them, in deep thought.)
Maverick: One of the Duodecim.

Hitachi: The what now?

Maverick: Don’t worry about it, you’ll pick up on it, I’m sure.

(The scene switches to Nate and Acé once more, now alone in the shop. Nate is petting his dog by the counter.)

Nate: I’ve got a good feeling we’ll be seeing those two a lot. Wonder what the kid’s Talent is…

(Acé wimpers a bit.)

Nate: Hungry? One sec.

(Nate holds out his hand, and a suddenly black hole like portal opens in his palm. Then, a box of dog food appears, and lands in his palms.)

Nate: Alright, alright.

Acé: Woof!

( The scene switches to Bryan and Yuki, who are now in a dark alley.)

Yuki: You sure this is the right way? This seems off…

Bryan: Nah, we’re almost there. They have to keep the place hidden, don’t want any unwanted company to show up!

Yuki: … “They”?

Korace: Hmm… I see. What an interesting turn of events.

Yuki: What?

(The two turn the corner, to a dead end. Yuki seems confused, as Bryan turns and gives her a thumbs up. Suddenly an Aura surrounds them, to Yuki’s surprise. Then, they are warped to an open field, and in front of a set of gates.)

Yuki: … Huh!?

(Bryan dusts himself off as he stands in front of the gates. Yuki seems lost, looking around as she regains her footing. Then, she looks towards the gates, and beyond. Behind Bryan, the Dragon University stands tall, with a forest setting surrounding the back. Some Students are bustling about the front of the building.)

Bryan: Yuki, welcome to Dragon University!

Yuki: Wait, why… and how!?

(A close up of Bryan is shown, grining, ending the chapter.)

Bryan: The Doc is the Nurse here!
