I'm "participating" because my writing habits are horrible - I write when I feel like it - which leads to not a lot of writing. So I'm hoping to force myself to get something done during this month. Last year didn't go so well. I was trying to be too perfect in my writing and it trailed off...

My goal is, to quote one of my favourite lines from Forbidden Kingdom "Don't think, just do" or rather for this situation "Don't overthink, just write". Not to dash a million random words on the page, but just... just do it - jfor goodness' sake just do it

On that note, I'm resuming a story idea I started in 2014 At a slow start but workin' at it.

I'm not going to be doing Nano this year, just not feeling it. Although I shouldn't neglect my writing too much so I'll see if I can do something next year.

Also, a smaller goal, like a short story, might help.

I've only done preliminary stuff so far. Still working on a couple characters who aren't very fleshed out. Hopefully the actually writing part will come relatively quickly after I figure out where I'm going.

Well out of NaNo sure I'm up to writing something real quick and can do so, but I'm not hitting 50,000 words for sure. Other stuff taking up my time.

*crawls in* No kidding, trying to split time between art and writing is tough. After inktober I've been laying off on the art to focus on the writing.

I might be aiming for a novel. I just hit the 10,000 word count. In truth, I already had some handwritten pages from 2014 that I was hoping to use as an emergency buffer, but I just added them in and now it's going to be a battle to stay with it.

(Still havin' fun tho. Rallying myself on. )

How to do synopsis thingy...
It's a fantasy, set in a mountain village where they believe the top of their mountain is actually a demon that had been sealed there by the mountain's faerie guardian. But in the present, when the village has grown into a town, it's just a tale they tell at their annual festival to attract tourists.

My main character, Jay, is a patroller who doesn't believe in faeries, despite everyone trying to convince him otherwise. When the festival nears again, and the town gets busy, a number of problems occur that test Jay's beliefs.... 

I'm working with this really loosely. I have ideas and an ending in mind, and I'm kind of just filling in the gaps as I go along.

Oh yeah, the original setting was supposedly in Japan (because I so badly wanted to use a Yuki Onna) hence the Japanese sounding names in the handwriting. That's all changed now in favour of a more familiar and western setting.  Jin = Jay.

Sounds similar to Auberon's character arc in the novel Little Big, which I would recommend reading if you want a (quite long) novel that deals with fairy mythology in an interesting way.

Also, your handwriting is much better than mine.

And yeah haha I like to be able to read my writing later. Although the explanation for the neatness is when I was younger I had a habit of writing out the alphabet, upper and lower case, everyday before starting my school work. No idea why

Changed my mind. I'm going to do NaNo.

I mistook removing things from my plate as freeing up time for other projects, but it's had the weird opposite effect of demotivating me from taking on more stuff. If I hit and miss I'll learn from that and move on, rather than just quitting outright before trying. Seems to be the safer way to go in general for lots of things. I tend to be too cautios.

So lel wish me luck. Here's to hitting 5,000 words before Tuesday?

and ECHO WHAT YOU'RE A PRINTER. HOW! Teach meeeee. Oh dammit I wish I could write like that. Good handwriting is just a treat for the eyes imo I really like it.

Jin sounds like a great protagonist. I like sceptics in good fantasy stories, they have a nice humour to how they deal with such situations. The great ones are reminiscent of Watson from Sherlock where he understands it's his life now, but he returns to normality at the drop of the hat when it allows.
