help with developing story
« on: July 18, 2018, 12:17:23 AM »
I have a question about my story
Early on in my story my character has to train in order to up his physical abilities and endurance. I'm unsure on whether I should go over this in a couple of chapters or don't really use that much time on it and go over it in like a couple of pages or one chapter.

I settled this problem but have another question below... lol

BTW here is the story in the link below

I have another question... is it weird to introduce the powers and the power system like 20-25 chapters into the story?

Uh, yeah I'd say so? You don't have to fully explain the powers, but people should have some concept that they at least exist by the end of chapter one. Powers and magic should be part of the draw from up top if they're a major part of the story.

thanks but like for example in hxh we didn't know what nen was until after the hunter exams and it worked perfectly. I showed like a small glimpse of the powers within the first chapter but wasn't really explained or introduced (and the reader won't really think of it as a power until I bring it back up later in the story). For example, in my story I didn't want the powers to be the first thing that our mc has to learn (my story is about a spy, fbi like agency that my mc joins and works into becoming an agent and he needed to learn the basics first before learning the power system).
So would it hurt the story if I go that route of developing his basic skills first before introducing the power system?

I mean that comes down entirely to your skills as a writer. If you finally get around to introducing nit and it doesn't feel like it fits into the flow of the story or the universe, than you've failed. If it does, then you've succeeded. Just got to be self conscious enough to know if you have or not.
