Right? It's the one secret I wish I would've known early on instead of after I had been drawing for like ten years.
Your friend is right. It doesn't look like sh*t. Just don't be afraid to break things down into shapes on your paper, too. Guidelines are a powerful tool. Hard agree with Coryn, though. You have to look at life through your own eyes so that your view of the world is what comes out of the paper.
For double mindblowing learning goodness, you don't always have to draw from reference as you see it. Try drawing the mirror image of it (without digitally mirroring it). You will learn so much that way.
Haha signature go brr.

Both good points, however me drawing while using my friend's work as reference is sort of me just messing around and having a little bit of fun, and is also just a means of inspiration for getting into a daily habit of drawing. He himself, would probably tell me not to keep doing it, funny enough.

Once I sit down and really absorb the lessons from Drawabox I'll post some post-lesson sketches of any lines and/or shapes they teach you to draw in their videos. I did mess around with some line drawing exercises while watching one of the videos, but I was kinda tired and after looking back what I drew, it kinda seemed like I wasn't taking the lessons all that serious I guess.

But seriously this drawing from your shoulder thing really opened my eyes man. Feels like I'm seeing life from a whole new perspective.

Self-deprecation in the middle of sketches? *Raises hand* Here!

If you ever have the time Alphonse Dunn's youtube videos are pretty good. Also I draw girls . com. God I visited this site for days. I loved how he turned such simple figures into the anime characters that I knew and loved.

https://idrawgirls.com/draw-anime-manga.html

You're lines look like they'll get promising down the line. Your ability to control pressure will improve on time.

Keep at the treadmill man.

Haha that stick figure at the bottom of a cube looks like an abstract xkdc comic or something.

knowing that one is trash is the first step to being not trash.
But I wouldn't say thats trash. There's plenty worse. But I can relate to the feeling all too well :P
And great to see a new artist. I always thought you did do drawings, maybe I was thinking of someone else :/
keep it up and you will be good in no time.
I also have the dream of animation, albeit a verrrry long term one.
The hardest part is keeping going despite the apparent "no improvement". Kinda like losing weight or building muscle, You've gotta stay at it once you commit. Can't wait to see you improve :)

@Lego: Thanks man that means a lot! Haha, I think my lines could use a lot of work, but it's nice knowing that I'm displaying some form tangible potential. I'll check out those links you sent me asap.

@Suuper: Nope, I've always been a writer lol. Thanks for the support man!

I agree with everyone else mine are not as good as I wish and yea I get a little jealous of the talent everyone else has but as long as it's fun and you enjoy yourself it's all good. And I agree with coryn I did that and I'm stuck trying to fix all my bad habits. Keep at it and don't give up.
