Does Drag Count As Cosplay?
« on: June 24, 2018, 02:39:07 PM »
Well, I've mentioned before that I do some Drag King stuff on the side (and it got me into some trouble with Mom yesterday, actually--yikes!).

Here he is. Drag King: Evan Essence.
He got his name by being the biggest edgelord they scraped out of a 2008 trashcan.

first beard plus new wig attempt

after another show, took wig off in a restaurant

Should I refer to you as Bro from now on?

Jokes aside, this is actually pretty cool looking. You really nail the look well!
Messatsu...

When I'm in drag, sure.

Yeah oddly enough I kind of look like one of my cousins when he was younger.
Also the beard in the last one looks a little different because it's gotten smeared, but I've found that taking a really rough costume makeup sponge with black lipstick on it dabbed on the face does a really nice stubble look.

Later with this thread I might do contour tutorials and like, maybe if anyone ever takes a video of my performances I can show one of those.

But this doesn't have to just be my thread, of course. There are other Kings, Queens, and Monarchs out there.

Cosplay is to dress up as someone from a work of fiction (maybe history too) whether it is a story, comic, anime, etc.  If a maid is dressed as a maid, it is a part of work not cosplay.

I think question is if he is dressing up as a fictional character/trying to imitate someone or if it is his own style that he might wear on a regular basis.

I mean, if we break down the term 'cosplay', I would say it does 100%, but in the colloquial meaning, I would say it depends entirely upon the intent. If you're like, doing drag as apart of an established character from fiction, than sure, definitely! But if it's purely the drag persona for the sake of drag, then I wouldn't call it cosplay, I'd just call it drag.

Also, I'm not convinced that first photo isn't just a picture of Brendon Urie circa 2005

Will review stories upon request. My latest arc: http://goo.gl/KYgsfF

Hilariously, I've been trying to plan a performance for "The Emporer's New Clothes" :sure:

Also the purpose of the title was because I didn't really know where to put a drag thread so I threw it in with the cosplay thread. I would say that crossplay is cosplay and drag is drag, personally. Think of the title as a joke for like "why is this thread in this board and not somewhere else?"
