how do i make this look better???
« on: December 16, 2017, 04:52:07 PM »
https://imgur.com/a/XtbS9 I'm coloring this in but as I'm coloring, I realize that it looks pretty weird where the hair color meets the lines, I don't really like this how do I fix it?

It looks like there's something going whack with your brush settings. Try outlining in a different brush and see if it continues to give you the same problem when you color in the layer below it.
Haha signature go brr.

It looks like you have only one layer for all your work. try putting all the color on another layer and putting that under the outline.

my "background" layer is the linework and "layer 1" is my color

It might work a lot better for you if you watched some tutorials on how other artists use photoshop and to pay attention to how they work with their layers. I personally don't use that program anymore, but I would always make a layer for the outline and put it over the layers for color, and I would never run into problems like this, so I'm really thinking it's how the brush interacts with the layer that it's in.
Haha signature go brr.

I've used Photoshop in the past, and then had to change computers, so I worked with MSPaint for a bit, and now I use Krita, which is similar to Photoshop in layer functionality.

you probably need to know how to separate colors from lines.

1) Shift-Ctrl-N
2) Look on your right side where it says layers and drag layer 2 below layer 1

This will let you color freely without worrying about your lines being colored over

nevermind guys, i found that its best if i use the magic wand and select the lines, then create a mask with the selection and then the lines wont get colored over. any extra detail is easy to redraw, but thank you al anyway

Hello Victor,

The problem you're encountering is anti-aliasing. You're using photoshop which is a pixel-based program. When you draw lines, Photoshop will try to smooth out the effect of the lines by blending in the black lines with subtle shades of grey.

You're getting that effect because you're trying to color on the same layer as your line art.

In order to avoid this, you need a minimum of 3 layers from top to bottom:
-Line Art
-Color
-Background

The following image shows the black lineart over the purple color layer over the white background.
