The Writers Novel Marathon Workshop has officially begun! With it begins our long-winded and tear-inducing journey to create your very own novel! (Or at the least something resembling one
)
From July 31st to September 17th, we will be working nonstop, writing, drafting, and revising our stories through the days ahead. There will be three review sessions every week on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Ideally, you should be writing approximately 1000 words every day in order to meet the goal of 50,000 words by the end of this workshop. Some of you may write more. Some of you less. That doesn't matter!
So long as you finish your novel from start to end by the end of this workshop, you will have accomplished a great feat that only few writers can claim for themselves. On the rare occurrence that one of you ends up writing a full novel before the end of this workshop, feel free to stick around and review others at your leisure. Do note that there is no benefit to finishing your novel early, as you still would need to wait until the very last day on September 17th for it to be placed in contest among the rest.
Depending on the progress of the workshop, there will be special events to help you brainstorm and develop ideas for your novel. They are optional, but I highly recommend participating in them when they come up. I will announce them at least a week ahead of time so that you may plan accordingly. These events will never be scheduled during a Review Session day to avoid time conflicts.
Now, in preparation for the 1st Review Session scheduled for Tuesday tomorrow, each and every one of you will need a "Portfolio" to keep tabs on your work and progress. What do I mean by this?

Your portfolio will more-or-less follow this format. You will edit or create a new post here on this thread for which you will store all your updates to your particular story. This is to keep things organized and prevent the agony of needing to flip through multiple pages to find what you're looking for. When you are done creating your "Portfolio", send me a Personal Message containing a link to your thread. I will add them to the Original Post at the front so you and others can have quick and easy access when opening this thread. This needs to be done as soon as possible, preferably before you post your first entry on Review Day.
One other thing before I let you all off to write your first thousand words: I must have some idea what genre you intend to write on. This is so I can group everyone into Review Groups in preparation for tomorrow. We are a sizable workshop as it stands, and it would be madness to require you to review everyone in the group, so I'm limiting the required review to only that within your Review Group. You are free to review others outside your group, however you must do your own group first. You can inform me of your choice either through Personal Message or by simply stating the genre within your portfolio once you have it up. I will have more details on what the Review Sessions will entail on Tuesday.
Just remember, we could care less about how atrocious your writing is, or how grammatically incorrect or misspelled your words are, or anything else. Just as long as you get your words down on paper and take advantage of the workshop, you'll be spitting out quality books in no time!
Just get those words out! I'll be keeping a word tracker per-day on the OP to help give you an idea how far you are with your novel
Until then...
Welcome to Day 1 of the Writers Novel Marathon Workshop!
